Squad Challenge - Centipede (Atari 2600)

Justin

Recommended Posts

Play Rules: Games may be played on real Atari hardware, dedicated (Flashback) console, or emulation, using any joystick or keyboard, following rules and game settings as delineated in the Squad Challenge. We are playing the original Centipede for 2600, hacked versions of this game are not allowed.

Justin - would the trak-ball versions of Centipede & Millipede qualify? I have screenshots of my scores from the Houston ArcadeExpo from both of these titles. Of course, I'd post the Centipede scores only here.

just wondering......

I asked, and the answer is no, sadly.  No hacked versions.  Originals only.  But you can use a Trak-ball with the original if you want.

I think that's fair, as the hacked version is a lot easier IMO.

Not this time Arena. Here's why: We are playing the original ROM of Centipede. Hacked versions are not allowed as it would be an unfair advantage to others playing I hacked Centipede. We may have a Squad Challenge for hacked versions at another time.

Also, scores need to be achieved between December 1st - December 15th, 2015 to qualify for this challenge.

It sounds like you have some pretty good scores documented though! Why not open up a thread for Centipede TB on the Scoreboard and post your scores? Justin has two up already if you need an example. http://forums.atari.io/index.php/forum/70-scoreboard/

Have fun!

Hi Arena! We're just playing regular classic Centipede for this challenge. Everybody has it, it's on all of the Flashback systems, something everyone can play. We will have lots of ways for you to play hacks and homebrews in other events  ^_^

^ that's a great idea.  I might do that...because the hacked version is really a lot of fun.

^GREAT suggestion Professor! This is exactly why the Scoreboard exists!  :wreck-it-ralph_anim:

Arenafoot, your scores are something special. I would encourage you to start a new Scoreboard thread for Centipede TB and Millipede TB and post your scores! Someone else may come along and try to top them. Scoreboard offers casual competitive gaming in an open format without deadlines or even the need for another player. Think of it as a friendly and relaxed Twin Galaxies. It's a great format for setting high scores on hacks, homebrews, and arcade games. You could have an amazing score and somebody else could spend all year trying to top it.

Hacked versions of games could also be played in Danisen League so long as both players agree on terms beforehand. High scores achieved in Squad, Danisen League, or Atari Cup can always be added to the Scoreboard if you think your high score merits recognition.

If there were achieved during the stated time period, I don't see why not.

Correct. Arenafoot, you can most certainly link to other sites if you feel you need to, though the purpose of all this is to make our site more fun. Also, please bear in mind:

1. Games must be the original games played on real hardware, dedicated console, or emulator. No hacks, cartridge frying, or cheats of any kind are allowed.

2. Scores need to be achieved between December 1st – December 15th, 2015 to qualify for this challenge.

3. Screen captures will not be accepted as they are easily manipulated. You must submit an actual photo of your TV or computer screen, or video of your gameplay.

Arenafoot, you have some nice scores! I would suggest once again opening a new thread in the Scoreboard forum to post your other scores :thumb:

Are compilations allowed?

I play a lot on my 3DS (Atari Greatest Hits DS).

I assume so since they are being emulated, but wasn't sure.

I haven't played Greatest Hits on DS, but if it's the ORIGINAL ROM being emulated, that would qualify. If you believe it passes the "Am I playing honestly and fairly?" test then it should be good. We want to make this as easy as possible for everyone to easily participate without being complicated and without being unfair. :)

Please only actual photos of your scores, not screen captures. Screen captures are easily manipulated.
