Of the official launch titles for the Atari 2600 in September 1977 my favorite is Indy 500. A great two player racing game and also I enjoy the demolition derby variation (crash n score). Even tag is a great game as well. Which is your favorites?

Indy 500 here too. Great fun. And I won a trophy for it a few years back.

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Combat.

Video Olympics is a close second. Lots of battles on both games with my Dad.

I'm going with combat on this one. I have rarely seen Indy 500 and I have had street racer with a few yard sale 2600 finds in the past, but Combat was always present, has lots of variations to keep it from being boring, and it has definitely earned its place as one of the great games of all time.

Air Sea Battle is another great one. A fine companion to Combat.

Growing up, we only had Combat, Street Racer, Surround, and Blackjack out of the nine total.  Blackjack scores some points with me for having a computer dealer opponent.  Okay, so its "AI" is just simple math, it still counts!  There were plenty of times that I didn't have a Player 2, and that takes a lot of the fun out of Combat, Street Racer, and Surround.  Surround's AI was... very beatable, and I didn't really care for the game all that much in the first place.

That said, it's gotta be Combat for me.  You could fly, you could drive, you could shoot, you could hide, you could get good enough to perform tank corner warps at will...  you could employ some legit strategy in the Clouds levels, changing speeds and banking behind cover...  you could be laughing hysterically because it was your turn to use that giant, slow-turning bomber that's basically a flying bulls-eye, getting tagged by jets over and over again...

Surround is great for creating pixelated art in my opinion (I created a thread to post your Surround artwork). Combat is a fun two player game for head to head matchups along with Air-Sea battle. Vide Olympics has many creative Pong games and a little aged for an early second gen console especially people were tired of Pong by 1977. Star Ship is too easy but love the sound effects. Street Racer is the same. Too easy for me and repetitive. Blackjack is decent. While Basic Math is well solving math problems and an educational game.

Oh I hate talking about myself...but if you insist

It was at a gaming show several years ago.  I think it may have been my first show.  A volunteer was walking around asking for competitors for an Indy 500 tournament.  So I signed up.  Hadn't played in 30 years.  But ended up getting the hang of it really quickly.  Each round was at a harder level.  It think the championship was on ice with the complex track, for example.  But RickR dominated that day.  An aside, the "volunteer" turned out to be the Indy 500 world record holder.

It was honestly a lot of fun, and I'm glad and happy to have won that trophy.

yeah I had to cast my Ballot for Indy 500

I loved the tag the most & chasing the dot ... I did like Super Sprint in the arcades and the time trials closely resembles that

only one I didn't have BITD was Basic Math but proud to have it now ( I may have played it once or twice)

Here is the Indy 500 trophy.  You won't believe this, but I don't get to show this off enough.  B)

That is one awesome trophy !!!

never played Indy 500 .........so I have to go with Surround.

Surround is great specially the diagonal fast mode with wrap around ... although I played the straightforward one the most

for Indy 500 , you'll need real hardware & driving controllers !!! ...or some elaborate gizmo with driving controllers atleast !!! oh yeah , another player as well

Blackjack - Simply because both back in the Ferg and today I was and am limited mostly to single player games and that one got the most plays out of all the listed games. Gotta love that shuffle sound.

I loved Surround but for sure Air Sea Battle got the most play so that takes the cake. Combat was alright but it just seemed so damn boring to me...
