Any of you guys play Magic? I have just gotten back into it after about a 15 year absence. It's really fun, but can be expensive.

I love trading card games. I got into Magic for a while with some friends a long time ago, and just recently picked it up again. I had a friend once describe it to me as "a more portable Dungeons & Dragons" being that you can take cards anywhere pretty easily, although his description isn't quite right. I always loved the expandability offered in trading card games, it's fun to trade cards. Booster packs can be expensive though.
If anyone is unfamiliar with Magic or looking to get back in, they have a series of YouTube videos that will introduce you to the game and teach you how to play:

I started playing Magic when 4th edition came out and was fanatical about it for many years!! I still think it's one of the most brilliant games ever.
Still have 1,000s of cards and taught my daughter to play!

I figured I'd necromancy this one to the top. I have a few magic cards left I'd be willing to trade away. I also happened into a TON of cards for Jyhad and Galactic Conquest. I have no idea what to do with those!
I just dug up some old factory sealed starter decks from 1997 (Tempest series) and put them on eBay. One of those boogers was selling for $75 on Troll and Toad!

This statement summarizes why I don't play Magic anymore. I got into it in high school with Revised, quit for a while, got back into it again during the Invasion block, some of Odyssey, quit, played some of Mirrodin, all of Kamigawa block, and quit again. I have a ton of cards and all my decks still, but I haven't gotten back into it because it's so damned expensive, plus I would have to learn all of the new mechanics, my decks would all be obsolete, etc. I did release tournaments during Invasion and Kamigawa, and while they were fun and most players were cool, there were always jerks to deal with too.
I even played online for a while during Mirrodin, and while I enjoyed the games, I didn't like spending money on digital cards. It was nowhere near as satisfying as purchasing and collecting physical cards.
So while I'd love to get back into it, I just can't bring myself to sink the money into it that I would need to be competitive. It's a hell of a game, and the fact that it's been around so strongly for so long is a testament to that.
