Doctor Octagon
So it's 1989. Nintendo was absolutely dominating the market. Sega had some hits on the Master System and was now introducing Genesis. So what does Atari do? While "Nintendo Power" was striding into its golden era, Atari was placing "How To Beat Jungle Hunt" (a game from 1983) as their cover story, and insulting children with horrible responses like this one:
RickR
I think Jack Tramiel personally wrote this response. He was known to be ruthless.

Atari 5200 Guy
Hmm...there would have been better ways to approach this. I'm surprised the parents didn't approach Atari for being insulting.

fergojisan
Not to derail the thread, but we did call them tapes in the early 80s. I don't think I called them cartridges until I started collecting in the early 90s. I certainly didn't call them game paks when the NES came out! StormSurge
That's not even the worse one! This is from the same page of the same issue of Atarian Magazine: Poor Lee! imp.png Waterford is the next town over from me! I might have to track this guy down & get a response. And to Ferg's point, I don't recall ever calling them tapes. That was for VHS or cassettes. To me, video games were always cartridges until I had a Dreamcast & then they just became "games". nosweargamer
I had to include this ad for Ferg, even though technically it may not support the tapes argument But yes, I did hear some people call them tapes back in the ferg: The No Swear Gamer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChtJuo040EOCTVziObIgVcg Host of The Atari 7800 Game by Game Podcast on iTunes, Stitcher and YouTube
