MaximumRD
How to Install Microswithes in an Atari 2600 CX40 Joystick thewheelman282 Published on Jul 4, 2016 In this video I explain how to improve on the Atari 2600 CX40 joysticks by installing 5 small microswitches inside. This greatly improves functionality and gives them a more arcade feel. Mushy controls are a thing of the past! Another plus is that this mod is relatively simple and can be completed in just a few hours https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hZ5mIIXWkk I am Rob aka MaximumRD aka OldSchoolRetroGamer and THIS is my world http://about.me/maximumrd "For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. RickR
That's a pretty good idea, and doesn't look too difficult. I may give this a try the next time I come across a joystick that doesn't work correctly.

RickR
I've used those microswitches to replace the little flex circuit for select/start on a 2600 jr. They work great.

AtariBrian
Would drilling the circuit board to take the leads be a bad idea? Any reason not too?

Did you have to do any cutting of the white shaft/ring with the smaller switches?
