Great story! Everyone that I know has played the first Super Mario Bros. There is people out there that have never played or grew up with video games especially the NES. There is always a first time for everything. :) Thank goodness it's not The Lost Levels.

This video is long and may be boring at times but I encourage you to listen all the way through. You just might like what I have to say by the end.

I'm fixing up a Gemini right now for a friend who's dad dug it out and she is super excited.  It's cool that there are still basement finds out there.

It's like a sliding scale....sure it's hard to find Atari stuff anymore...but PS2 or Wii right now is all dirt cheap and really fun.  In a few years, it will be some other system.

Is Pac-Man for the Atari VCS/2600 honestly a bad game or was it just a disappointment. In this instalment of Atari 101 I will explore that question.

When I first booted up this game, I said the same things I said to E.T. and Shaq-Fu: "I've played worse.....WAY worse."

I watched the video last night.  I love pac-man on the 2600, I even love the sounds.  Maybe it's mostly nostalgia.  I also love E.T. not based on nostalgia, as a kid it was horrible to us, but that's because we didn't read the manual.  Can't wait to see the pac clone video it will be a long one I would imagine.

I never really gave 2600 Pac-Man a fair shot until about a year ago. I picked it up for 25 cents and actually played it one night on the suggestion of The Professor. It's not very faithful to the arcade game, and graphically it's not very impressive, but if you give it a chance it's a lot of fun to play. I ended up playing for an hour a night for about a week while I listened to podcasts.

Agree with all these sentiments.  It's a fun game, it did get a lot of playtime from me when it was new.  But the game was NOT Pac Man, and it ended up eroding confidence in the 2600 and Atari.  At the time, you could see a superior version on the computers of the day, and even the lowly O2 had a better munching game.  Atari was more interested in suing other companies than making great games, it seemed.  Pac Man made me think twice before buying any other game from Atari.  Was a VIC-20 version available instead?  If yes, I'd probably just go with that -- that was my thinking after Pac Man.  So yes, it was a good game...but ended up creating a lot of baggage for Atari IMO.

And more from me (of course)....I always found it fascinating that the versions of Pac Man Atari created for other systems were all really, really good.  TI-99/4A, VIC-20, Intellivision, C64, Atari 800, 5200....those were all great.
