Something We All Need To Know

Along the same subject of the label variants of 2600 games it can be said that someone out there might try to fake some of the more rare games.  Not just for Atari consoles but for all the gaming systems we love and enjoy.  There is nothing more demanding in the video game industry than finding that one rare title to add to our collections.  I never knew that someone would stoop so low as to produce fake games just to make a quick buck.  But in the used video game market, and knowing how the internet is sadly full of those willing to do whatever it takes to get our hard-earned money, it is a market that is not free of evil doers.  With that said, YouTuber Metal Jesus did a video on this subject.  I really recommend watching it for those that don't know about what is going on.  I learned a thing or two from it and hope that others here will as well.

Please watch this.  I don't want to see my friends here get a dud game.

Now we find folks passing off others finds, info etc as their own

You'll never stop it.

I have been seeing this alot more recently and then the people get called out on it. Also see people showing a big lot of games and saying they paid $5-10 when in reality they paid probably what they are worth

I dont see the point. Is it so people on Facebook will think you are cool?

It is an expression of their eManhood. ;)

:thumb: Great video.

I'm thankful that Atari collecting has largely remained free from authenticity questions, at least for the most part.  There's less incentive for people to try to cash in with counterfeit games, reproductions, etc. in a smaller, more niche collecting community.  That said, there are certainly cases where repros of hard-to-find Atari games are being passed off as genuine, or are otherwise misrepresented.  I imagine it's the same situation for other classic console game collecting.

(Of course, there are folks like me who think some of the knock-off Atari stuff is kinda cool!  As long as it's not being misrepresented on purpose, of course.)

If you're not sure whether something is legit, you can always ask a forum (like this one :D) for advice and opinions.  The majority of people are willing to help when called upon!
