Missing in Action

Publisher: TNT Games (their only official release was BMX Air Master for the Atari 2600

Programmers: Sculptured Software (who did a great job bringing Commando to the 7800)

Planned Release: 1989

Did You Know: Chuck Norris previously appeared in Chuck Norris Superkicks for the Atari 2600

Movie Background: The first MIA was released in 1984. MIA 3 was released in 1988, a year before this game and was a box office bomb (I'm guessing TNT didn't pay a lot for the license)

Why It Wasn't Released: Most likely because the market for 7800 games was drying up as systems like the Sega Genesis came into stores. Poor sales of BMX Air Master may have also played a part.

Interesting Controls: The combat is more like Prince of Persia or Karateka than your typical action game.

One of the sad facts with the 7800 is by the time they adjusted to the style of game gamers were playing in the late 80's/early 90's and once they mastered getting the most out of the TIA 2600 sound chip (some of the late games sounded really good! nothing like 2600 games) as well as getting the most graphically out of the system, it was already too late as most of their user based moved one.

It's a shame that games like MIA never saw the light of day or that games like Ninja Golf and Midnight Mutants were barley noticed when they were released.
