Yo-Yo
For almost 30 years I've played Super Mario Bros. on NES and NEVER knew there was continue code! I saw this today, and it was news to me so I wanted to share with you guys. Most old school Nintendo gamers knows about the Konami code, but did you know there was a Super Mario Bros. code that lets you continue from the start screen after you die, placing you right where you left off with a fresh set of lives? It's easy! When Mario dies on his final life and you return to the start screen, just hold down the A button while you hit start and you'll wind up right back where you left off. How rad is that!? Fire_In_The_Valley
How did no one ever know this? A continue code for Super Mario Bros is really cool but I'm more shocked that nobody really knew about this for 30 years.
Arenafoot
pretty cool how this type of info is discovered 30-35 years later! Justin
Has anyone given this a try yet to see if it really works?? Matt, yes! I tried this on real hardware, my original NES that I grew up with, the one that you saw at my house, and it actually works! I can't believe we didn't grow up knowing this code. A + START is about as simple a code as it gets.
Yo-Yo
Yeah man it's a legit code. Idk how nobody knew this till now. That must have been the best kept secret in gaming history.
Arenafoot
Is there an easy way to clean the 72 pin inside an NES "without" opening up the case? Justin
Yes, but cleaning the contacts usually isn't the problem, it's most often the pins becoming loose and no longer making contact with the cartridge board.
Arenafoot
Mine are dirty.....carts fit tight but I have to wiggle them a bit while they are seated inside the console. Just trying to figure out how to get the rubbing alcohol onto the 72 pin - q-tips will not be long enough to reach it and I don't want to take it apart. StormSurge
I'll echo what everyone else said & wonder in amazement how this went unknown for so long?? Pre-internet, we all knew the Konami code. Heck, I've memorized the code for Mike Tyson (007-373-5963!) yet something as simple as this, for a game EVERYONE had, no one knew.I can't wait to try this. I'll work on having three retro games to share on the "Last Three Games You've Played" thread.

Atari 5200 Guy
To pick up on the last track you left off? Yep. You should try it. If there is a track you can't beat the first time through, hold down that A button and press Start. It really is as simple as that.
