Atari 5200 Guy Posted January 3, 2017 Report Share Posted January 3, 2017 During my time in college for a degree in web design I was issued Adobe Design Suites CS4 and CS5. One of the classes called for Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premier. But any Adobe software is highly expensive even for students. I ended up using only the trial versions of those programs but if you can afford it Premier does quite a LOT. It also has an easy to use design that I have not seen anywhere else. There is a free one for GNU/Linux users called Kdenlive (https://kdenlive.org/download/) that I have been messing around with. It seems powerful but I have a lot to learn. It doesn't seem as easy as some others especially when it comes to creating titles (which I am in need of). What I did for most of my video game score videos on my YouTube channel was use what time I had on After Effects to create my titles and I used Windows Movie Maker to piece my works together into one video (opening title, game play, closing credits). I am planning on going back to making YouTube videos soon so any help I can find to make the work go a bit easier is a plus. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I typically use Cyberlink PowerDirector, for youtube video and the like I find it more than does the job as well it is pretty simple to figure out since I did it, for me it is the perfect balance of features and price and ease of use. Atari 5200 Guy Posted January 3, 2017 Report Share Posted January 3, 2017 (edited) I am trying out the ones in the link RickR posted now. The first two programs looked really promising but my 2008 year old laptop was not powerful enough for either one of those. I'm currently trying the VSDC one now to see what it has to offer. Surprisingly, one of the features of the free version is screen capture. Interesting. I will post what I learn as soon as I see what it does. Forgot to mention: Since VSDC doesn't appear to have a title-editing feature I am also doing a search for title creating software that is free to use. While not free I found a demo version of BluffTitler (https://www.outerspace-software.com/download). I'm fixing to test it out now. VSDC does some incredible stuff for being a free application including capturing screens. This can come in really handy. The applications on the list that RickR linked to looked really promising, too. But my 2008 gaming laptop simply did not meet the requirements of those two programs. So far VSDC is allowing editing features that is very close to what Adobe's highly-expensive apps allow...and it's easy to use so that is a plus. The one thing I was wanting to try was custom titling. Unfortunately I have not found that feature in VSDC yet, if it has it, but I did find another app called Bluff Titler. The titler, while it has a demo version which holds nothing back, is not really free. But for $30 it can be a huge help. I haven't bought it yet but I am seriously considering it. Funny thing I had a demo for Bluff Titler I used to make titles to VHS way back in my AMIGA days. While I never really had a "fancy" setup good old Amiga 500 and composite out to VHS recorder to tile my home movies using Dpaint or Bluff Titler from a demo disk, good times. DaVinci Resolve is built for color grading footage, so it's not that great for actually editing the footage. It's more for filmmakers than YouTube vloggers. You can get HitFilm 4 Express for free and it has almost as much functionality as Adobe products, but it's pretty resource intensive and you might have to take an afternoon to figure out how to use it (it's pretty user friendly, there's just so much you can do with it) https://hitfilm.com/express/ They made this with the free version (of course all of the VFX and 3D models were all made in other programs, but putting it all into the shot and doing clean up and everything was done in HitFilm): Edited January 4, 2017 by leolinden RickR, MaximumRD and Atari 5200 Guy 3 Quote Retro obsessed dude Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
