I was talking with BTB tonight about the 720° arcade game from Atari, as well as the port for Atari Lynx. BTB sent me a link to "720° Zone" and I thought I'd share it here. If you liked 720° this is a great website full of resources on how to buy, own, and restore 720° arcade machines. If you've ever played 720° or never played 720° this is worth checking out. I really enjoyed looking through this tonight.

Their main site is here: http://www.720zone.com/

And their story is here: http://www.720zone.c...Collection.html

Enjoy!

Also here's a bit from the November 1991 issue of EGM on the Atari Lynx port of 720° (also Cabal)

Rather ironic that Mad Man's Dream headline..as all we poor Lynx owners could do was ever dream of seeing Cabal or 720 appear on the Lynx, sniff.

Loved the UK version of 720 on C64, Chris Butler did a superb job.

Will have to see if i can get some UK coverage up in this thread :)

C64 version had a HACKED version..tougher, more obstacles etc:

Majority of UK Press loved the home versions:

“It's one of the most imaginable games of the year!” ...CRASH

“Virtually flawless arcade game. Addictive, smooth and slick. Don't miss this one.”

... 10/10 SINCLAIR USER

“Skateboarding has never been so much fun.” ...COMPUTING WITH AMSTRAD

But a few like C.U scored it a bit lower, 7/10, though C.U admitted it was more playable/better value than the coin-op...

Commodore Force harder still, 65% saying the lack of variation killed it, only 4 events meant tedium soon set in.

To be fair the coin-op's gameplay wasn't that deep and the draw was the thumping music and great graphics.

E.A's game offered more variety so you paid your money, made your choice.

As for Lynx 720:

I'll just remind folks what atari corp's Joel Seider told me:

'Cabal, 720 and Vindicators were in development, but i believe were not top priority for the developer.I had seen all but Rolling Thunder at 1 point or another in their development.'

3 stunning arcade titles which Atari didn't consider a priority to bring to Lynx, even though they'd been annouced/promised by Atari, preview screens put out etc.

Anytime anyone thinks i'm being overly unfair on Atari, i point them to examples like this...and ask them WTF i was thinking sticking with the company after they shafted me as an 800XL, STFM, Lynx owner in terms of gulf between promises made..promises kept..to think i went through it all again with the Jaguar, shesh....

Shocking that GBC had a version yet Lynx didn't..

I have 3 cabinets that I hope to come across some day - Crystal Castles, Space Harrier and 720. One ove these day I might have one, or all. Plus I got to fine that Jaguar kiosk, you know that would look amazing for the show in the background.

Where as E.A went with Skateboards to cash in on the 720 craze, Gremlin Graphics took a different route with Roller skates and Skate Crazy:

The High Res C64 sprites created on the Atari ST, but no-one seems to know IF an ST version was actually planned...

Meanwhile at the BUDGET end of the C64 market, Codemasters were hardly going to pass up the chance to do a BLATANT clone were they, cue Pro Skateboard Sim.
