Original xbox clock battery

So i was talking to someone on facebook. His favorite system is the original xbox and as such he has tons of systems. Im up to 5 OG xboxs. 1 in particular is the crystal clear xbox i have. It would be a shame for such a small thing like a battery to kill that system.

He told me it is a must to take out the clock battery before they pop (corrode) because if they do it could desyroy the xbox.

Have any of yall done it before. I think, but not entirely sure, you have to desolder it out? Also im kinda treating this as a public service announcement. If you havent taken the battery out yet i would look into it.

I haven't heard of this one.  Anyone here actually have it happen to them?  I just figure that X-Box's are so darned prevalent and inexpensive, I'd just buy another if the worst happens.  Frankly, I haven't touched my XBOX in a long time...I have so many games for PS2 that need to be played and I'm way behind.  I think I have 3 XBOX's at the moment...mostly by accident or because they were too cheap to pass up.  Plus, I keep meaning to mod one, but have not yet had time.

Still, good info to know...thank you for bringing it up.

Yea that was my first thought. But the guy i was talking to said he had 3 halo editions and 2 mountain dew editions. So i was thinking it would be bull if those rare systems died from such a little thing.
