MaximumRD
Atari SX2600 - A fairly complete Atari 2600 emulation console I know some have strong views against such things and I would certainly not sacrifice something good and working for such a project but I cannot help but think this is kind of cool? Discuss From article: I'm certain that several of you old-console & case modding fans have seen a certain Atari 2600 case mod on the web- One that had managed to earn a fairly prominent autograph- which, to me, proved to be a total let-down. The 'Heavy Sixer' used was butchered to the point where not only did the unit no longer resemble an authentic Atari, but judging from the photographs posted, it seems that one cannot even plug an Atari joystick into it. Whats the point ? Anyway, I felt I could do better, so I worked to build a fairly modern system out of an Atari, while keeping its, erm.. Atariness.. http://www.instructables.com/id/Atari-SX2600-a-fairly-complete-Atari-2600-emulatio/?ALLSTEPS So what say you all? Total Blasphemy ? OK if using non Heavy Sixer ? Maybe if not repairable as an original console etc? The Professor
I wouldn't say total blasphemy, there are enough 2600s around to merit encouragement of personal projects. I do think though, that this project goes a bit far in claiming it's kept it's Atariness. It's clearly heavily modified. The giant vent in the top and modern Atari sticker with that awful Infogrames Fuji did it for me. I think I'll pass on this one. Create that looks like a 2600 with very subtle and minor changes and we may have a winner. I personally think this is a really well-done modification: http://www.grandideastudio.com/portfolio/atari-2600pc/
RickR
I think it's kind of neat, but I don't really like that grill cut into the top.
Fire_In_The_Valley
Yeah, they couldn't have cut that grill into the bottom? That's so massive and so out of place it crosses the line of missing the point.
Doctor Octagon
What a ridiculous clob. I can live with the buttons and ports on the back, and the wifi antenna looks pretty cool. The grill on the top makes it look like a sewer. I hate to say that though. This is hours of one man's work. He is happy with it and he probably learned something from it, and who the hell cares what I think anyway, so good on him for attempting this. DeLorean
I think it's pretty cool. The fan on top is ugly but it's a cool idea. Isn't there an etsy shop that makes pcs in 2600 cases?
