I'm going to be a cynic and point out how close we are to April Fools Day and how much this looks like a hack of 7800 Centipede. They have a history of doing this sort of thing over there... Someone will announce a long lost proto has been found, then say April Fools, then announce it's a homebrew currently in development by a member. All in good fun.

I'd love to see an original 7800 Millipede proto found though. We'll have to wait and see what happens, I'd hope Tempest at http://www.AtariProtos.com could verify it's authenticity.

And what's with that 1982 copyright? That doesn't make any sense.....

1982 was when Atari created Millipede......but I too think its part of the 2015 April Fool Joke.......those screenshots are not of a real TV but an emulator, I call "BS"!

1981 is when Atari created Centipede, and 1984 is when they ported it to the 7800 and why the copyright reads 1984. If this is real the Millipede copyright would also read 1984/1986. No 7800 game should read 1982 that's not even possible. This is an April Fools hoax.

Well guys just for the record IF it does turn out to be a hoax or whatever please know it was not my intention to fool anyone or play a joke :( . I been on AA for a long time where lots of real original Atari related protos have surfaced so I did not even give it a second thought, the OP typically is a pretty serious and honest guy from past experience as well so I still remain hopeful and hope it still comes through but if not, well I hope you all know me well enough by now to know it was a sincere post, I am just a huge fan that was hoping to inform you all of some good news, I am just a fan and hobbyist so I don't necessarily have what it takes to spot a fake or hoax, if it turns out to be simply a hack (not that I could make one) let's at least hope it is a good one.

@MaximumRD whoa I don't think anybody for one second thought negatively of you, or that you were trying to fool anyone or play a joke. You're revered in these forums. I think everyone thought you were just posting the news of what's going on.

That being said it's hard not to see the similarities in design between 7800 Centipede and Millipede, or to dismiss the fact that we are two days away from April Fools Day and the guys on that site have a history of epic April Fools jokes. Which is always okay in the end, because April Fools Day is benevolent and as long as everyone owns up to it in the end it's all a big laugh.

I too would love to see original 7800 Millipede show up. Maybe this is the real deal. The guys at GCC are a close-knit group of guys and very proud of their work with Atari, Spring and the 7800. It's possible maybe one of them found something in an old box. But I am a skeptic and I question everything, so I must acknowledge that it's also possible this is an April Fools joke with a homebrew based on 7800 Centipede.

Don't worry MaximumRD, everybody loves you.  :pirate:

Well since I originally posted I should be the one to deliver the news......:(

Seems you guys nailed it though I am not surprised. From the OP on Atariage:

Hi Guys
sure it was an aprils fool.....the proto was my rarest.......It is the Pole Position Bios, which was sold to me as non working....a former worker od Atari put the chip on a gameboard, without knowing that it is the real PP built in Bios....
Eckhard Stolberg found this out, several years ago and we posted the bios here in the forum.....
The best on this Aprils fool was, that CPUWIZ thought first, that there is a bew game.....,but thanx to all friends, who were involved in the whole thing.....Millipede is only a hack by Blue and Me :)
We made only two mistakes....the date on the titlescreen 1982,let people think, that it is a hoax.
And i am just an idiot;i posted a wip photo.....
But our hack is good....with all we were able to do.I added the Earwig and the Worm....also the Mosquito.....Then we changed the player and an extra life will be given at 15000 points, like in Millipede. And we changed the mushrooms and their behaviour, when poisoned.
We also did a lot of different Centipede hacks.....
And maybe some day we will have the real Millipede for the 7800.......and this is no aprils fool.I hope you guys forgive me our little hoax
greetings Walter

DOH! Well I guess I will know better next time, No sharing such info until dumped and made available............
I will just go back to playing now.....I HATE APRIL 1st!

Even though its over a month ago (April Fools Day) ........ I just found this one:

http://videogamecritic.com/2600aa.htm?e=25688#rev4453

Its a review for a game entitled "50 Shades of Grey" by Dubious Software for the Atari 2600. Of course the screenshot is of Custer's Revenge but it wasn't til I but the mouse over the triangle with the exclamation point, that I realized that this was their April Fool's joke from 4/1/15!

In 2014 they did "The Hobbit" for Atari 2600.............  http://videogamecritic.com/2600tt.htm?e=25688#rev4245

and in 2013 "Bioshock 2600"..........  http://videogamecritic.com/2600bb.htm?e=25688#rev4062
