Old School Gamer Magazine

Recommended Posts

I just received a free print edition of the first issue of Old Scool Gamer Magazine. The magazine is edited by Ryan Burger and has an advisory board consisting of Dan Loosen (Midwest Gaming Classic/GOAT Store), Walter Day (Twin Galaxies), Billy Mitchell, and Doc Mack (Galloping Ghost). The first issue is decent and has articles on Qix, Q-Bert, K.C. Munchikin, a feature on voice recognition hardware, a feature on text adventures and reviews of the latest HD NES clone offerings from Hyperkin and Retrobit. The back also has an Atari 2600 pricing guide courtesy of puregaming.org.

It's pretty cool for a first issue and I'm glad that it's not NES-centric like some other retro mag attempts. The print copy also came with a poster. Overall it was pretty good and I'm excited to see where things go. I'll probably bite for the annual subscription ($30). The first issue is available as a free PDF. I've not received one in the mail yet.  Maybe it is just delayed.  Were you able to get a PDF of the magazine, RickR?  I have a link to the online version of the magazine but that is not a downloadable file.

I have not tried.  I haven't even had time to open and look at the magazine.  They are both still in the plastic wrap.

BTW, Inky from AtariAge and I had a chat with Ryan Burger shortly before the first issue came out. He's looking for authors. If you want to contribute to the magazine, please let him know. I think he'll pay for the work.

Supernatural, perhaps...baloney, perhaps not.
