RickR
ET. It's a fun game if you understand the rules. Unlike many 2600 games, it's not easy to just pick up and play. So head over to this site and take a look at all the great info: http://www.randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-et-tips.html I found the "Tips and Reminders" section to be the most helpful; especially the videos. So here's the challenge. Learn the game. Win at least once, just to say you did. Be cool, and post your winning screen here. For nerd cred. Nothing more. Here is my screen shot. And I'll admit, this is on the easy game 3. I'm trying to win on game 1, but it is quite challenging. Stupid trenchcoat guy and scientist keep nabbing me at the worst possible times! RickR
A few tips from me: The secret is to keep your eye on the top of the screen to see the symbol for each area as you move. On each screen, find the "columns" icon (to send the bad guys back to hell) and the "question mark" (to locate phone pieces) as fast as you can. And if you come across the "space invader" (which calls the ship once you have the full phone) memorize where it is. Post your tips, observations, questions, and screen shots! RickR
I tried this game, but couldn't figure it out. Lee, check out the site I linked in the original post. It has a lot of great information, and the videos kind of take you through it step by step. Don't give up man! And make sure to select game #3 when you are learning...much easier. correagonzalez
I don't think it's a bad game, was just given bad reputation cause of the video game crash in the 80's but definitely need instructions on how to play this otherwise you will be lost lol
LeeJ07
It is far more confusing than Raiders of the Lost Ark, that's for sure. "I'd buy that for a dollar!" -Smash T.V.
Atari Adventure Square
Oh man, I *loved* figuring out Raiders - one of my favorite movies and video game. I was always a fan of movie-based games since even lesser-developped titles ended up extending the film's universe in pleasing ways, creating an interactivity with an imagined environment I enjoyed revisiting. E.T. was one of these. The few times I managed to tolerate the hard difficulty game options in this one, getting to that ship moments before capture was quite satisfying. If I remember correctly, on the hardest options, the ship wouldn't appear when agents were present, which made it nearly impossible to win cuz those guys would show up in seconds flat the moment you popped into a new screen. I may be remembering it wrong, but I get twitchy just thinking about it. I'm gonna do some slow-breathing exercises now... But yeah, my modern-day goal now, as challenged by Rick, is to hook up my console and sit myself down for some good old retro fun, hitting that high score on this divisive cart. Justin
I played E.T. tonight, started with game 3 and played until I couldn't play anymore. Played using real hardware, an unmodified Atari 7800 using an Atari 2600 joystick. I scored 233,325 before I died in the forrest pixels away from my landing zone. Elliott came to revive me, but I had already called the ship and when it appeared on screen with Elliott at the same time, the game froze. I'll give it another try sometime with game 1. Fun challenge!

Justin
Thanks! I feel like I could have broken a million had I not died when I did. I cut it too close. Pretty cool though, I had never seen E.T.'s kill screen before.
Justin
I was able to roll the score past 1,000,000 points last night. I'm going to see how long I can keep playing. http://youtu.be/0GvHkZhL4Js

greenween
Alright I admit it! Officially! E.T. is a great game, it just didn't have the time to be what it could have been. I know that's kinda vague. It really is a good game at the heart of it. Worst game ever? Far from it. Not even the worst game the year it came out! Give it a chance before you judge it, start with difficulty level 3 to get the hang of it. Warshaw was and is the greatest of all time. "Better to be king for a night than schmuck for a lifetime."
