Must have Atari Lynx games?

74 officially plus a handful of homebrew style releases.

What kind of games do you like.

From the four games I recently reviewed, Pinball Jam is tops, but I only recommend it to video pinball fans.

Growing up, some of my faves included Xenophobe, Xybots, Electrocop, Ninja Gaiden, Lynx Casino and even Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, although some of those may not hold up well today. I would recommend staying away from Hard Drivin and Kung Food.

Ms. Pac Man is excellent.

California Games is great (and a pretty easy one to find).

Rygar is fantastic.

There is a Lynx review thread here on the forums....http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/2175-a-lynx-collection

Here's what I say: There aren't a lot of Lynx games, and finding them isn't easy.  Therefore, just buy whatever you find for a decent price.

This is a tough question for me to answer! I really believe the Atari Lynx has the most "potent" library of any Atari game system in terms of highest percentage of great games. It's library is small but full of stellar titles. For me it would have to be Electrocop, Gates of Zendocon, RoadBlasters, S.T.U.N. Runner, Chip’s Challenge, California Games, Zaku, Rampart, Lynx Casino, Todd's Adventure in Slime World, Xybots, and Blue Lightning just to name a few.

I'm flattered that you think of me! ^_^ I certainly don't mind doing the easier stuff. But this one is really tough. I just don't have the time or guts to even do it for my own Lynx. Maybe when I retire.

Yea i feel ya. I looked it up looks like alot of work. Especially more than just a recap. Have you ever recapped a lynx or a game gear?

Justin,

Did you also receive your Lynx from Best Electronics? I always remembered the Lynx screen being kind of washed out and faded, which is one of the things I disliked about it, but recently it seems far worse than I remember. Mine looks just like yours with weird lines, I got the recon unit from Best for $99 and it also came with California Games.

I think the McWill mod is probably the best thing that could ever happen for the Lynx. I think it goes from barely playable to blown away!

Thanks for the confirmation Rick.

I'll add my two cents in regards to Lynx games but feel like Justin@IO hit it on the head with solid ones.

I will second that Slime World is amazing. I remember being really impressed with it the very first time I played it and it has just left a lifelong lasting positive impression on me.

Since I didn't see it mentioned, Robo-Squash is really fun. I found myself playing that game more than most Lynx games out of the dozen or so I owned at the time. Kind of bizarre name/box but you should really give it a try and it's affordable enough to do so.

No i bought the lynx from a local game shop after i traded in $100 worth of my junk. Ive looked into doing the mcwill mod, but cost too much to do. If i do the mod im torn between doing it to my lynx or my game gear??

Guess it depends on which one you love and/or play more. I think both are expensive to mod but equally worth it since it breathes new life into the machine entirely. Seeing some pictures online, I can't help but feel the Lynx I has a better LCD screen, though I can't say for sure since I've never owned one personally.

Must have titles for Lynx!

Here we go:

Blue Lightning

Chequered Flag

Rygar

Xybots

Robotron 2084

Ninja Gaiden

Zaku with one big disadvantage: It's hard to find and everything else than cheap!

Rampart

There are many more excellent titles, but this selection should help to build a fine collection.

Having done the Lynx mod myself it wasn't that bad. It was probably more time consuming to recap it, remove the stuff you don't need for the backlighting, and replacing the regulator and diode for the power circuit area to make sure that wouldn't be a failure point anytime soon. But the GG is a different story. There is quite a few SMD parts that have to be removed, and a few SMD parts to be added back in. I do have the kit for my GG but haven't struck up enough courage to tackle it yet. Thinking maybe this weekend, but no these mods aren't for the beginner or faint of heart.

My must haves:

Joust

RoadBlasters

XYBOTS

Rampage

Super Asteroids/Missile Command

Chips Challenge

Klax

Zaku

Xenophobe

STUN Runner

Crystal Mines II

Battlezone 2000

Also, I have the McWill mod and it is excellent. It truly makes a huge difference and breathes new life into the machine. Another great addition is the RetroHQ SD card by SainT. You could just get that and call it a day if you don't want a physical collection.

If you do want a physical collection, the GOAT Store has some great prices on the most common titles (NIB). I've had great luck with them vs. eBay or forums.
