Let's all play: Berzerk!

It's time for some arcade awesomeness.  Berzerk on the 2600 has got to be one of the finest home ports of an arcade game on the system.  No flicker, great controls, and really fast robots!

Let's all give it a shot, and post high score screen shots here!  There's no prize, just fun with this classic old game.  And bragging rights, of course.

Rules:

- Select game #9 (no bonus lives, fast robots, and Evil Otto)

- Real hardware or emulation - you're good either way.

- NO CHEATING

- Bonus points if you break your joystick while playing

- Post as many scores as you like.  We'll just count the highest one.

- Have fun!

Post your scores by replying.  I'll update the thread on Sunday night with high scores here:

1.  8280 Greenween

2.  5220 Justin

3.  4910 RickR

4.  4190 NoSwearGamer

5.  3210 Arenafoot

its an old trick that I use for submissions on www.highscore.com - take a screenshot with my name/avatar is a must so that others know its actually your score and not just grabbed off the internet somewhere.

Not me. I don't have a lot of obscure games. The high score challenges should be really common titles so they're accessible to everybody.

I was talking about a different version of Berzerk to be played on Stella (Atari emulator) - so technically since Stella is a free download and ROMs of Atari titles (released and homebrews) are free to download too - then it is available to everyone. I don't have room to leave my Atari (and others) out to play on a daily basis so I have to use Stella, NEStopia, MAME, ParaJVE (Vectrex), etc emulators to play.

Although I do see where you are going from with the "obscure" titles - since alot of the homebrews are limited editions of 10, 25, 100 etc - there are titles I'll never see or get to play on real hardware, ever!

RickR's Berzerk tips:

- Evil Otto always appears where your guy starts in the maze.  So move away from that spot quickly.

- Evil Otto moves the same speed as your man vertically.  Always try to escape him by moving up or down.

- Robots can't shoot diagonally.

- The robot explosion sprite is a reverse of Evil Otto...just like the arcade version.  Well done indeed.

The tips made all the difference for me! Once I realized Otto appears where I start, always escaping vertically and shooting diagonal as much as possible I doubled my score! Of course luck played a big part as well. :) I haven't passed 6,500 since then!
