For info, suggests, advice about using a MAC to emulate various computing and gaming platforms. MaximumRD Posted October 6, 2015 Author Report Share Posted October 6, 2015 Well if anything like PC MAME is not the simple as other emulators. I can tell you one mistake people make is they get a romset that is a different version than the MAME emulator they are using. Be sure whatever version of MAME you use that you pair it with a matching version of MAME otherwise when you go to load a particular game you will get missing files and other errors. You have the MAME emulator and you can get a GUI (frontend) for it, this is merely an interface that is sort of a hub allowing you to adjust settings, select ROMS etc all from a single interface, on PC at least there are many to chose from. Other than that I cannot help you on MAC and I am not looking to learn a whole platform I will never use lol. You will have to do the footwork for that one as well more knolwedagble MAC experienced will hopefully chime in. I wish you luck as MAME is an incredible thing to have ready for some great arcade gaming! A roms for a certain title can be made up of several parts and some times when changes are made parts of it are no longer compatible. So for example if you are running MAME VERSION 1.53 you want to use MAME ROM set v1.53 as well. The fun part is there are various tools that can CHECK / VERIFY / UPDATE whatever version of roms you have to the latest updated version but even I get confused with all that stuff. I have really tried to set it up and get my head around it all but I sucked at it and so, admittedly, some time ago I just ordered a complete set ready to go on DVD lol. Basically this was several DVD's containing MAME / FrontEnd / ROMS / Artwork etc all matched up and ready to go, all I had to do was transfer it over to my HDD lol. Many would balk at doing that and truly I usually figure things out on my own but I finally gave in, basically you are paying for the media, shipping and time and service to put the package together (you are not "paying" for the ROMS officially because you know, that would be wrong ) and it just works so I don't regret it lol. So setting MAME properly is not the easiest undertaking if all the forum posts I have seen from frustrated forums members all over are any indication but by the same token that means there is TONS of help and info available out there it just takes a commitment and some time to search it out and sort it and learn some things. Trial and error and frustration are sure to ensue but if you figure it out and got it working you end up with literally thousands of ARCADE games available to play. This doesn't work with the "regular" version of OpenEmu. You'll need to download the "experimental" version. Download the MAME ROM, compress it to a .zip file (if it's not already) & drop it in.
