    Storm's Giveaway - THE PICKS!

Okay, here we go! The draft order is below. Some ground rules: I won't put a time limit on the picks, but try to be as efficient as possible. I realize everyone is located all over the map and keep varied hours, so there's no expectation on my end. Consoles/handhelds/lightswitches count as one pick, TWO (2) games count as a pick, FOUR (4) manuals count as a pick. Trading of picks is allowed. If you want to move up & offer up later picks, by all means, offer away. You may pass on your pick. Post your selections in this thread. Both Skyrim 360 games count as one game. Games that had matching manuals in the loose pile of manuals will now be included with the game.. My only goal is to get rid of everything. 😀 I THINK that covers everything. If there are any questions, please ask away. HAVE FUN!! The Loot: fergojisan - Luigi's Mansion & Mario Golf (GC) kamakazi20012 - Xbox 360 RickR - Alien 2600 CIB & SW Rebel Strike (GC) chas10e - Pigs in Space (2600) & Bomberman (NES) nosweargamer - TMNT III (NES) & Mario Kart Double Dash (GC) Atari Creep - Gamecube Mr Toon - Wii GRay Defender - Family Feud (Genesis) & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (360) Control Issues - Altered Beast (Genesis) & Mario Bros. Night Stalker Intellivision Controller: CONTROLLER / MULTIPLE CONTROLLERS / KEYBOARD / PLAYER'S CHOICE Difficulty Level: Game Speed 3 (Button 1) SINGLE LIFE: Achieve high score using only one life to win challenge Play on: Real Hardware / Dedicated Console / MAME / Emulation OK! ✔ Squad Challenge ends 11:59 pm PST May 14th, 2019 OBJECTIVE: Play for the highest possible score using the difficulty settings defined in the challenge. Post a photo or video of your score in this thread. Scores must be achieved between May 1st through May 14th, 2019. Screen captures are not allowed as they are easily manipulated for falsified scores. Multiple submissions are permitted. The player with the highest score at the end of the competition is the victor! ELIGIBILITY: Anyone can join in. All players are welcome! PLAY RULES: Games may be played on real hardware, Flashback or emulation, using any controller or keyboard, following rules and game settings as delineated in the Squad Challenge. The use of multiple controllers is allowed in this challenge. Enhancements, rewinds and hacked versions of this game are not allowed. DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Speed 3, Single Life Run. Speed 3 is the next-to-fastest play speed for this game. Please take note that Speed 3 on the Overlay is actually BUTTON 1 on the Controller itself. It's weird and confusing that they would do this, especially given how often players lost their overlays. SINGLE LIFE RUN: You are only allowed ONE LIFE to achieve your high score in this Squad Challenge. FAIR PLAY: Players should play fairly, be honest, and have fun! Falsified scores will result in your immediate removal from the site. It goes without saying that no use of cheats, hacks, cartridge frying, enhancements, rewinds, Photoshop, subterfuge, or any other unfair advantage is allowed. Everybody hates a cheater. MORE: To review detailed rules on how to play, please visit the High Score Squad page here: https://forums.atari.io/topic/1219-high-score-squad-how-to-play/ MESSAGE: Welcome to our 58th Squad Challenge! This will be our third Squad Challenge for the Mattel Intellivision and for one of the system's pillar titles: Night Stalker! This is a SINGLE LIFE RUN Challenge, and you are only allowed ONE LIFE to achieve your high score in this Squad Challenge. ROM, Instruction Manual and Controller Overlay are provided below. Good luck to everyone playing! NOTE: Our next High Score Squad Challenge will be a special one-day event challenge coming up this Saturday, May the Fourth. Be there! Jeopardy

Is anyone else besides me swept up in James-mania? In case you haven't heard, the current champ is obliterating the Jeopardy record books. After 9 games, he already owns the top 3 single day earnings records. He's a machine. Ken Jennings holds the total earnings record in 74 games. James is on pace to break that record somewhere in the 20 game range. It's like Jordan, Tiger & Ruth in their primes, all rolled into one. Here's the first time he broke it (he's done it two more times & I have a feeling he's not done yet):

Absolutely can! One of the first games I played on Sega Master System at my friend's house was F-16 Fighting Falcon. It was my first time seeing a Sega Card. I thought it was one of the coolest things I had ever seen! This was before the TurboGrafx-16 came out. The Sega Cards were less expensive than regular game cartridges and F-16 Fighting Falcon wasn't that impressive of a game, honestly this is one example where the XEGS may have outshined the SMS with Flight Simulator II. But playing video games on something the size of a credit card seemed really impressive. The other thing that stood out to me was using dual controllers to play F-16 Fighting Falcon. My friend and I (we were kids at the time) made a really cool "cockpit" out of cardboard boxes and magic marker. We taped the two Sega Master System controllers to our cardboard cockpit and flew what we thought were the coolest missions. Our cardboard controller beat Nintendo Labo by 30 years.

I'll go with NES Xevious and Commando. Anyone remember the wild pie fight between Marc Summers and Burt Reynolds on The Tonight Show? Burt was in a bad mood, but Marc didn't do himself any favors by escalating the situation.

    Storm's Giveaway - THE PICKS!

This is a snake style draft, meaning when a round is over, the next round starts in reverse order. That's why the list looks weird. For instance, the last picker of round 1 will be the first picker in round 2, getting back-to-back picks. This helps even things out so your not stuck in the same position each round.

That's a better idea than a maze game where you are trying to guide a drunk ET through a house, while at the same time guiding Elliot through a classroom avoiding frogs. (When Spielberg asked for a maze game, this must've been what he had in mind) Sorry Rick.😔 I had several games in the 600-800 range, but then I was finally able to destroy the first wave, which gave me some breathing room (in most games an AT-AT reaches the end before I lose my lives. They move pretty fast in this variation). 1664
  34. 4 points
1142. Oh for the love of God, no one beat this score -- I don't think I could do any better. RE: The variations. This particular game I would never go beyond the "easy" levels because even "easy" was too hard to me.

This is a game in which the best controller scheme is to use TWO controllers. One for direction, the other for firing. One in each hand. I will give it a go soon.

16,200, using my Intellivision II. The controls really do leave a lot to be desired. My strategy is it shoot exclusively bats until just before I get 5,000, then I switch to only destroying the shooting enemy and the spider.

💰 Have you ever found a Red Quarter? What did you think it was? Red quarters are known as “shills”, “house coins” or “freebies.” If you’ve ever found an old quarter that was painted red, (usually dated before the ‘90s) those were used in Arcades to count free plays. Whenever the machine ate your quarter without giving you your game, you’d tell the attendant who would give you a free game to make up for it. Sometimes they had the key to open the coin mech and hit the switch, but in many cases Arcade owners didn’t trust their teenaged employees to have coin mech keys where they could reach in there and grab a fist full of quarters. Instead, Arcades would have extra quarters called “shills” or “house coins” used for this purpose. Sometimes these could also be found in laundromats and diners with jukeboxes. House coins were painted red so that at the end of each week, when all the quarters were counted from the coin box, they would subtract the red quarters from their earnings and return them to the attendants to be used again. Over time most of these quarters have made their way back into circulation. The next time you come across a red quarter dated before the early 1990s set it aside! You never know if that quarter worked long hours at an old Tilt or Aladdin’s Castle somewhere.

    Who Wants StormSurge's Junk?

Sooooo... I finally have my game room/man cave/hideout nearly completed. I’m unpacking all of my stuff from the move two years ago & guess what? I need to purge more. I’m going to have a junk box or two of 2600 games, some Genesis games, more manuals & other stuff. I’m sure there will be some NES games too once I get to that box. Just like last time, I’m not looking for anything in return. HOWEVER, if anyone has any CIB 2600 games (that I’ll list in a separate post), that would be awesome. 😀 I’ll update this post as I keep unpacking & sorting. I just wanted to give you all a heads up. 👍
