    Greetings! Hello! Salutations!

I'm new around here! My name is 'Dan' but I go by the online moniker 'Rocky Raccoon'. I've been collecting since about my teen years. I am currently 34. I like collecting a heck of a whole lot, and have a varied collection of consoles. My favorite era is probably the mid eighties, onwards. The first two machines I ever played on we're an Atari 2600 in my dad's basement on a B&W TV, and my Dad's Commodore 64. My favorite retrogame series is The Fantasy Zone series of games. I was first introduced to collecting through a dear old friend back in MA, USA, and have been in the hobby since. I've been learning to get into the technical side of the hobby-- learning to fix consoles-- diagnose problems and fix them, though I still have a long ways to go-- though I do have a background in electronic schematic reading thanks to CAD courses I took in high school that have generally helped me a bunch there. I learned about this place primarily through the NoSwearGamer on Youtube where this place was mentioned once in a while, and decided to come check it out. I also hang around AtariAge with the same user name.

Pizza pic adds 100 points to your score. I agree with you on the moving shields. They get in the way. But once you get to the level where the invaders start at the lowest level...you die very quickly.

True Story, back in the day I rented from a store that had an amazing selection of games, I rented Tengen Tetris one day, loved it, a week later I returned to rent it again, I could not find it, I asked the clerk, he said pointed to the Nintendo Tetris, I was thrown off at first and said "Er, no, I don't think that is the one, the one I rented was not made by Nintendo". Long story short, he denied they had, OR EVER HAD any other version, even me clearly stating you DID because I rented it, he was trying (for some reason) to cover so hard "Are you sure it was HERE you rented it?", he absolutely would not budge on it, insisted they never had any other version so I just dropped it. Only years later, when I would come to read articles and info in magazines etc, would I learn the story of TENGEN TETRIS and TENGEN themselves, now I still do not know WHY exactly this occurred, maybe the clerk bought (or stole?) the TENGEN version because he had learned that TENGEN would have to pull sales? Maybe the store was ordered to PULL the game off their shelf? But in either of those cases WHY claim they NEVER had it in the first place? So whatever the reason I can only suspect wrong doing on the clerk or store managers part because of their behavior acting like they were never in possession of the game, like it was some highly illegal item like plutonium or something 😜. Anyways, carry on, was not my intention to disrupt this thread but all this talk about TETRIS, OFFICIAL, TENGEN etc, just brought back that silly memory that comes back whenever I hear the TENGEN name lol. FEEL FREE TO MOVE THIS to OFF TOPIC or perhaps WEIRD STORIES under CLASSIC GAMING or something.......CARRY ON GUYS. πŸ˜†πŸ˜ŽπŸ»

Hi Guys - thanks so much for the support and kind words. I finally got around to joining the forums - just wanted to provide you a brief update on this project - I have a few of the Robotron controllers available here: retrogameboyz.com - it's just my eBay listings. I have lots of parts and try to assemble a few each day. https://www.ebay.com/sch/retrogameboyz/m.html Check my feedback and let me know what you think. I offer 30 day free returns if you are unsatisfied for any reason, so you can't lose. Even if you want to try it out and decide that it's not exactly what you wanted etc. I have sold about 700 controllers since March 2018. I constantly improving things and making different configurations. I recently started 3D Printing others some as those I have sold to wanted more customization. I do take requests as well. I am on v3 of the case and v1.2 of the boards - so far the units I have tested seem promising. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again! Here is the Robotron controller Demonstration:

    Squad Challenge - Tetris (NES)

There's some truth behind the story @Justin mentioned about renting Tengen's Tetris. The area I grew up in had a chain of video rental stores called Vision Video. They had the Tengen version of Tetris. I rented it twice in a row. It was because of this game I discovered Tengen. I rented it twice in a row. I went to rent it a third time and the rental store refused to rent it again. I asked why? They did give me an honest answer, though. If the store wanted to continue to rent out Nintendo games the store had to remove any games that were not licensed by Nintendo. It was Nintendo's "rule". That was the answer they gave me. I asked if it could be purchased to which they answered with a solid no that it had to be sent back to Nintendo to be destroyed. Such a sad fate for a great game. That also went for Super Sprint and other Tengen Games that were actually good games. I'm surprised to learn decades later that some Tengen games survived. It's why I'm hellbent on finding any Tengen games for the NES I can. I would still like to know how after the lawsuits Tengen did manage to get a few of their games as official releases.

πŸ“° Google paid $58.1 million for the Atari building at 1272 Borregas Ave. This building was home to 2600 games development and all the zany things that went on there. The Mercury News has a nice article on this which quotes Atari I/O: https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/07/01/google-grabs-an-early-atari-building-in-north-sunnyvale-deals-widen/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

Here we go....here's a few shots from the Star Trek traveling exhibit that started in Seattle in 2017, featuring the collection of Paul G. Allen. No "Guardian on the Edge of Forever" though....dang. I would have loved to see that. I'm sad there's no TrekMD in sick bay, but we do get Engineer RickR in a Jeffries tube.

Listed the house the other day. The market is crazy here in coastal SoCal so we already have a few offers. This whole process started almost a year ago and the house sale marks it's completion. I have a lot of "feels" as the kids might say but I'm definitely optimistic about what the future holds. Also, I get some time back! Bring on the gaming!

Oh, I remember this place. I visited it many times! It was awesome and it was fun with the people who were in character as Klingons, Ferengi, etc. I was able to do the "backlot" tour of it also several months before it was closed. I also was able to "make it so."

    Atari I/O LIVE!

Thank you Eugenio! I hope you enjoy the content we have coming up! Thank you Arlen! I always felt the crash has become something discussed and analyzed in pop culture far more now than at the time. History Channel did not mention James J. Morgan, I wish they had. It's an important point that the quality of games had gone way up with GCC's involvement. I think one of the biggest opportunities for Atari at that time was the involvement or acquisition of little dev groups like GCC. Sega and Nintendo found success with different R&D groups. Atari had was a unique place to work, but it had become a monoculture and to break out of that rut with different labs located away from Sunnyvale to embrace new groups and new ideas outside of the Atari buildings on Borregas Ave. would've been a good thing. Grass Valley and GCC are two fantastic examples of this. If Warner could've held on for another year and pioneered some of the practices we saw with Nintendo and Sega I think we would've had an even more interesting story.

    Atari I/O LIVE!

NINTENDO, SEGA & ATARI AFTER THE VIDEO GAME CRASH: What did it take for Atari to restore their reputation and for Nintendo to revive the industry after the crash? @btbfilms76 and I discuss Atari’s collapse, what it took for Nintendo to revive the industry, and how both duked it out with Sega in the retail wars for shelf space in Sears and Toys R Us. A clip from a β€œlost” livestream, we're still working out our video and audio setup. Subscribe to our main channel for new retro gaming videos: http://bit.ly/atariiosubscribe

I had a busy weekend, so this was the only one of the three I was able to do. I know this might sound crazy, but I think Sonic 1 is underrated these days, especially compared to Sonic 2. Played on a Model 1 from 6-Pak, using a video capture device. And I too beat the 2nd boss with no rings, lol. I was nervous battling him! 130,060

I apologize for the snowy picture. It's not my 2600's fault. My laptop interferes with my 2600 when I'm using it. I close the lid to shut it down when playing so the picture is better. It and the laptop share a circuit as there is no other place to plug in the 2600's adapter at the moment. But here's my first attempt. 5,555 points. Playing the game on real hardware with a 7800 Europad. Makes a difference. I prefer the joystick controllers but all of mine need rebuilt...again. Poor dome contacts again. The Europad is nice but there are just some games that feel better with the original joysticks.

I'm calling a handicap on this one! lol... my 2600 has seen better days... and my TV is trying to go out... may download it and try it via emulation... or on my Flashback portable... Anyway, the moving shields are more annoying to me than the zigzag missiles. I think I do better once they disappear. Score is hard to read on here, but it was 3800. (Also, bonus pizza pic!)
