As we weren't wanting to rent a car while we were there, we used the trains from the airport to the convention center and then just made sure to stay at a hotel nearby. The airfare was the largest expense for the two of us as the hotel was only about $150 a night as I recall which for the hotel we were in and the proximity to the convention center, we felt was reasonable. We would use an Uber for anywhere else we might want to venture that wasn't within a few blocks of walking distance while we were there.

Acclaim Remote Controller There is a ton of fun, craziness in this ad, from the kid calling it the Acclaim Remote (not the name) to the wrestlers being true giants. And who needs Airwolf's awesome weapons when you have this remote to shoot out the window!

For 13 years I organized and hosted my own small classic game convention here in the Tulsa area that was known as OVGE (Oklahoma Video Game Exhibition). But due to a lack of interest in my attendees and exhibitors in smaller cons, I stopped after the 2015 event. We have another that was started last year known as NYGE for Name Your Game Expo that is video games, card collectable games, Table RPGs and LARP that I was involved with last year. Specifically I helped to setup and maintain the retro systems and arcade cabs before, during and after the event. We had another scheduled for this year but have postponed it due to the pandemic. But there are lots of other cons that take place much close to me and therefore much less expensive around that time frame so it does make PRGE seem less attractive at that time. Honestly it cost my wife and I about $2000 to attend last years PRGE with airfare and hotel costs even booking that 3 or 4 months out. That didn't include what I spent at PRGE which, was a separate considerable amount.

As a fellow newbie, I can help. Some tips: On the map, you are the little grey ankh. They key is the triangle. The "door" is the part of the maze that goes all the way to the edge. Look at the map. Go get the key. Look at the map again and go to the door. The compass tells you which direction you are pointing on the map. NSG says you can't stop, but you can. Just pull back on the stick once.

Ok folks here is that "kill screen". And my unofficial first score. I assure you I played from the start and got a little bit into the game because I do not think this works on the earlier levels. Don't quote me. 19555 emulating because of the screen on my Lynx is hard to capture. This is unlisted. Just for you rad kats.

I got Retroarch working on an Amazon Fire Tablet! I managed to install the google play store (Don't ask me how, I seriously don't understand it... it involved downloading a bunch of questionable apk files and installing them in a magic order that made them work) Once that was installed -- Retroarch worked immediately. There are two Atari Lynx cores, I am not sure what the difference is, but it just seems to work! Now I just need to figure out this game 🙂

The score I submitted here was 43,950 and I finished in 5th place but in this video I didn't score as much. I still wanted to share some tips while promoting atari.io. If you're watching on your phone just rotate the screen to watch it vertically.

First Atari memory is still pretty clear. Christmas 1982 we went to visit my aunt and grandmother in another state for Christmas and my older cousins had a 2600. First time I had ever seen one and was not old or tall enough to play an arcade so they weren't on the radar yet. First three games I watched them play was Pac-Man, Combat, and Joust. First game I got to play was Joust and thought it was the most amazing thing ever.

Yes. Thankfully I won't have to take a ferry to get there. We may stop and feed the geese as well in our travels. If you couldn't tell, I'm a bit of a goose-maniac. I even bought Untitled Goose Game on Switch at launch. The goose in my profile picture now responds when we call his name. He won't be flying anywhere anytime soon. Geese aren't evil. They put up a charade. There is nothing on a goose that can hurt you. Unless 50 of them try to smother you.

I forgot that I had posted about these here. I'm currently sold out at this time and have been since Sunday night. I might make up another batch in the future but I need to focus on some client systems that were sent in for services as well and gauge if there is enough interest besides just 1 or two more people wanting them. I wish I could offer them for less as I'm not looking to make money from them but the parts costs for low numbers of these does not allow that to be possible.

I'd recommend holding the stick until you slow down. YAHOO! I got some .exe files converted for your game disc, Rick! I couldn't get the one I wanted as it was too big, but I think you will enjoy the games I am sending your way.

That is by far the most bizarre, over-dramatic and unrealistic advert I have ever seen. It makes Puppy-Monkey-Baby seem like one of those tame arthritis medication commercials, where all they do is walk in the park with their grandkids and play golf.

it is true that the trackball doesn't have the same weight and momentum as the original arcade cabinet, but it was a bit exaggerated due to leaning around my camera (I had that centered and I was trying not to block it). The trackball controls about like any other home one that I have used (I have the sega sports pads and the Atari trackball) - if that helps. The other thing that I should mention is that the stock spinner on that machine is not great. It clicks as you turn it instead of gliding smoothly. There are conversion kits to add an actual spinner, but I haven't upgraded mine yet.

I do indeed have one! It is easier to talk about in video format, so here you go 🙂 (since it references this forum directly it is a link-shared video, not public) One thing that I should mention is that you can get these fairly cheap if you keep an eye out for them. I bought my cabinets refurbished. They were pre-assembled and had new control decks on them. I got them for around $120 each (including the risers)

Best SMB game? Debatable. They are all good but my favorite is the N64 version. For once in the series I could relax for the most part. I didn't have a timer to worry about all the time...I could wander off and explore if I wanted to. I don't know if the DS is the same game or not as I've not had the pleasure of seeing it but for me it was Super Mario 64. It had a few flaws, yes, but still a great step in the right direction for the series. I actually have a close tie as I found Galaxy on the Wii to be a blast!

Oh, and if anyone wants to know how to play the game without having to do that whole reading thing, here ya go (plus I think I include a tidbit not in the manual):

I should start assigning homework to y'all. Like how I assigned Tunnel Runner to @RickR or how I'm assigning Super Metroid to @socrates63. Everyone's next assignment: Super Mario 64 DS. I want a five-page paper on how it's the best Super Mario game by Monday! Just kidding! About the paper. It's still the best Super Mario game.

http://www.digitpress.com/library/manuals/atari2600/tunnel_runner.pdf Yeah, this is a hidden gem of sorts on the system, yet it seems to have a following too. My gameplay video of it is my third most popular gameplay video, only trailing Pitfall and Adventure, and my review is also one of my more popular 2600 reviews, almost pulling E.T. numbers. I have no idea why out of the 100s of 2600 games I covered, it's one of the more popular ones. I never heard of it before I started doing my show. Maybe it has something to do with the remake someone did. It has over 600k views!

Good idea to watch the nosweargamer review. I'll do that. No, I didn't realize there was a compass. I shall try again with that in mind. I also didn't realize there was a timer! Whoops. Thanks!

@nosweargamer did a great job with it in his video. He explained things that weren't even in the manual from what I could tell. I'm not sure if you knew this or not, but there is a little compass on the bottom left corner of the screen where the timer bar is. It is oriented according to the map. That may help. Thank you so much, @RickR! I'm so happy you finally gave this one a go! I can stop bothering you about it now! This is such a great game. It legitimately startles me sometimes. Great fun on the Atari VCS and well worth the higher price tag.

I finally got time! First thing is a favor to ask: I could not find a PDF version of the manual to download. If anyone knows of a link, please let me know! I ended up perusing an on-line version of the manual, so I'm not sure I fully got the gist of the game. So please correct me on anything wrong in my synopsis below. First impression: This game is awesome! It doesn't look like a VCS game at all. No flicker. A convincing first-person view. Very impressive. Things I liked: They kept it simple. Find the key, avoid the face-balls, find the exit. Those face-ball guys are cool! The menacing sound that gets louder as they get closer reminds me of original Doom. Very very well done. Nice ramp up of difficulty. It starts out easy (which makes it easier to learn). But it ramps up nicely. The map is easy to use and very helpful. Things I didn't like Sometimes, it's hard to stop moving. It can be disorienting. Sometimes you intend to turn 90 degrees but the controls are so twitchy, you can do a 180 without realizing it. Overall: I loved it! This is a game that deserves more recognition. Back in the day, I didn't even know it existed. I wish I did...young me would have spent hours on this fun game. Thank you @HDN for insisting I give it a try. I want to spend more time with this one. I had to emulate due to my game room being occupied by a guest, but I want to play on real hardware for sure.

I was expecting 'socrates' to come storming back at the end. I posted in the scoreboard thread. Let's see who can break 100k first! This is actually a pretty good port of the arcade game, aside from the strange border around the screen. Current WR champ George Riley has some videos of his Galaxian gameplay that are worth watching: https://www.youtube.com/user/Disjaukifa63

I've enjoyed it. If you like it that much, make sure you try Escape from the Mindmaster! You'll need a Harmony cart to play it as it is a Supercharger game. It is an awesome game!
