Fires in U.S, are you affected?

AQI here is 29, which is fantastic after a week of being above 150. Finally, we can go outside!

@socrates63 Inspired me to make this post by mentioning that he recently played 5200 Space Invaders. Well, I guess I will just say it, I'm doing a review of Space Invaders as a pilot for my new YouTube series that I'm only posting here. My buddy is helping and one of you is also, I won't say. But I'm trying to get feedback on all of the versions of the game. I have the 2600 game as the main course but I would like to touch on a few other versions. I have LCD and arcade and maybe Famicom covered. I have never played the 5200 version, so I need your thoughts on it! And also the Atari 8-bit version if you want. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

@HDN a sale? I don't think there's anything going on in particular with Pink Gorilla and local retailers although PG posts photos of interesting stuff that comes in. A few days ago, the store got a huge stack of Saturn games. A couple of guys in the local retro gamer FB group did run an online sale yesterday. I was going to surprise you but since your curious, I'll have you know that I'm almost done with your homework. I will be picking up a stack of SNES games on Monday. I think I should get extra credit for alphabetizing the list 🙂 ✏️ Actraiser 1, 2 Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, 3 Illusion of Gaia Super Mario World Super Metroid Super Punch Out Zelda Link to the Past Zombies Ate My Neighbors I'm setting aside Zombies Ate My Neighbors to play it during Halloween next month.

The volcanoes and the "big one" earthquake that's supposed to hit 😮 Now for some better news 🙂 after couple days of rain, the air quality is back to "good" in Seattle. I can finally open the windows.

That's so funny, as I had forgotten about that detail. Portland got covered in ash a few times in the eruptions prior to the "big one". I remember one time it must have been a good 1/2" on everything. People had to drive their cars with panty-hose or some other filter over their engine intake. I know a bunch of people that bottled up the ash as a keepsake. Both Seattle and Portland live in the shadows of some monumental volcanoes (Rainier and Hood).

I'm sorry to have made anyone worry. But I do very much appreciate the good thoughts while we were going through that. That feeling of "no-control" is not a good one! Thank you guys for the thoughts and for the distraction of Atari-goodness to keep my mind off bad stuff during all that! I feel so happy that my family is all ok. I made a donation to our local Red Cross to hopefully help others and as a "thank-you" to the big-guy upstairs for our good fortune.

May 18, 1980 was the big one where she blew 3,000 feet of mountain away. Here's a picture (on a Kodak Instamatic) from my front yard at the time. I was 11 and remember it vividly. My parents made us kids come inside to be safe and we were glued to the TV.

I played 5200 Space Invaders tonight -- very trippy game! The alien designs are quite unique and they switch poses as they traverse the field. 👍

Fires in U.S, are you affected?

To answer your question, @MaximumRD, no. Not directly. I live in the upper Midwest which is probably the safest place natural disaster-wise in the US. I know @DegasElite also lives up here, but I haven't seen smoke yet and it has been very clear outside. I'm not sure if the smoke just hasn't made its way to us or not or if it is not going to come at all. Though I have heard that ash from Mount Saint Helens could be seen up here back when that was a thing. I wasn't around then, so I can't speak for that. I haven't been affected directly, though I was pretty worried when the fires were on their way to @RickR's house.

I think it was May of 1980, wasn't it? I would be six later that year.

It erupted a couple of months before my 11th birthday. I remember watching the news in Seattle and the ash was blown eastward. I also remember the ash being sold in those coin machines that you usually get little prizes or gumball from.

My wife and I have friends whose house burned completely to the ground last week, and they live just a few miles from us. To make matters even more heartbreaking, they retired only 3 months ago. They lived in that house for 30 years. All that stuff and memories gone. It's a story we're going to hear more and more of in the western states as global warming and over-population continue to take effect, I'm afraid. It's estimated that about 3000 homes in Oregon were destroyed last week.

I purchased something on Ebay and the item just showed as "post office is waiting for package" for over 2 weeks. When I contacted the seller, it turns out their entire home and everything they owned was lost in the fires. I felt horrible for the person.

    My house is burning down

Like it says. Total destruction. My entire collection is destroyed. Everything my family owned, in fact. We are homeless.

    My house is burning down

The aftermath. Two views of my bedroom. You can see the charred remains of my 2600 collection... All destroyed, as I feared. My coin collection survived, though, somehow.
