    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

I'm confirming that I'm in Florida. I like seeing SNES games are coming. I have only a few of those. 🙂

Yes I had only been holding on to them because even with DVDs, the picture and especially the audio was still superior on many of my LDs vs their DVD versions. Additionally I think I still have some LDs of movies that never got released to DVD or especially never received a Blu-ray release. But with Blu-ray and especially UltraHD Blu... the LDs cannot compete at this point. The picture and sound have never been better than when Blu-ray was released. I've had a few people want to buy a few of the movies I have, but I honestly am just tempted to dump the whole lot at the local goodwill and make it a tax write off for next year.

I've been actually collecting since the late 90s. I have well over 2,000 games but no complete collections for any one system. Although the closest are likely my 5200 and 7800 collections As I really only need the heavy hitters for those. But the point is that I do lack the space to add much more without it starting to look like being a horder so I did trade in last year about half of my PS2 collection and might do the same with my 360 and PS3 games as well only keeping ones that I'm likely to want to play again in the future that don't have a remaster available on something newer or that I might now own on PC. And I need to get rid of my 150 or so LDs that I still have taking up shelf space...ugh.

I've been working on mine for a decade. I have about 700 games now but that number includes digital games as well which makes up most of that number. Although trying to cram in an orderly fashion lots of games and systems in a room of a 1 bedroom apartment is impossible. I can only use one console at a time so I drag out a system to play for a while and then back it goes. Only the 360 and XBOne stay connected. I really dislike the juggling act I have to do and my wife nitpicks at me about it sometimes but I do enjoy what I have. Although thinning it down and concentrating on just Atari stuff has crossed my mind a time or two...but I'd miss my OG XBOX, NES, F-Zero...see what I mean?

Sounds like "Secret Santa" except no secret. The Genesis is awesome and I'm glad you mentioned it. See? That makes it easier to be confident that the box will have stuff you'll like! It's incredible how such a great system is available for such a low price, and it's been that way for a while.

    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

Wow, if we have someone in California, we'd hit all four corners of the contiguous states. Gaming wants -- Genesis and SNES games as I just got started and don't have many, especially Genesis (I only have Sonic 2). I don't have any schedule conflicts and anytime is fine with me. @HDN send me your name and mailing address and I'll send you something when I mail the box to its next destination so you can partly participate 😉

    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

OK, I'm going to start putting together the box and the stuff inside. Here is the participant list so far in no particular order, with my best guess on state: @socrates63 - WA @TrekMD - FL @nosweargamer - TN @chas10e - ME @RickR - OR It's not too late to join! I even renamed the thread to include the word "Junk". For now, if you guys have any "wants", please post them here. Even it's just a particular system you're most interested in. Example: RickR is most interested in NES, SMS, and handhelds. Also post here or PM me if you have a desire to go at a certain spot based on dates of vacation or what-not. I will post a better preview later as I get the box together. For now, I think it will contain: Several 2600 games, including one that has "special" controllers. A couple of plug & plays of the retro variety. A game-based DVD or two. An Odyssey 2 game. SNES games. Manuals! Books! Posters! A smorgasbord of paper-based goodness. A retro handheld game. Who knows what else! I am heading to my favorite game store later this week.

    Harry's Adventures in 7800 Collecting

LD's are really cool. Will I ever collect them? Probably not as I'm not a movie guy particularly. If I want to watch a movie I'll just use Netflix or something. But I would like to get a couple LD's someday. They're so cool. They're the vinyl records of film. By the way, my package is now only about an hour away! The site takes a while to update. I hope I can get my 7800 back before tomorrow to play them.

    Harry's Adventures in 7800 Collecting

I've said this before, but most of my retro games were inherited from family members. My 2600 was from my dad's cousin, my NES was from my uncle, and the rest were ones my dad used to have. So I guess it's been nearly 40 years, but all were collected separately and then combined. My games are currently two hours away. I don't think they'll be coming today, but I can wait.

Good for you, Harry. I'm only rediscovering the joys of 80s gaming nearly forty years later. 230-ish sounds like a great collection. I didn't start building a physical gaming library until four or five years ago when I got into retro gaming. It may actually be more beneficial not to have a lot of disposable income as it helps you to focus on things that really matter the most to you. Otherwise, you get into my situation where you try to pare down the collection to more personally meaningful stuff. And above all else, hold on to what you've collected so far. Otherwise, disposable income or not, those things may become expensive or incredibly rare or both later down the line. Speaking of Christmas 🎄 we're only a month away before we're inundated with holiday music 🎶 I can almost hear the sleigh bells ringing.

    Harry's Adventures in 7800 Collecting

Having enough games where space becomes a problem for me is like my dream. My collection isn't nearly as large as most of yours, only about 230~ish items in it. Like I've said previously, it's been being built up in separate chunks since 1981 or so. I'm really quite proud of it so far. Last week I finally took the time and cataloged it using pricecharting.com. When I have disposable income I would like to invest in some obscure consoles like the Channel F and Bally Astrocade, as well as get some vintage computers. I have wanted to learn BASIC since I first discovered The 8-Bit Guy a few years ago. My 7800 collecting and game collecting as a whole will be paused for the moment after I get these games. For Christmas I hope to get some games as well. Mainly BallBlazer, Pilotwings, and 7800 Mario Brothers. I also hope to get some more retro gaming shirts and things. Not many people my age you see wanting Atari 7800 games for the holidays.

End Label Sets for Multiple Systems

Hey Everyone! I make high quality vinyl label sets for many different systems. You can find them on ebay and etsy but you can also order them directly from me for cheaper! I'm happy to sell but also love trades! Sets I currently have are: Vectrex GCE Set - 28 labels, every original release plus multicart label. - $18 shipped in North America Vectrex MB Set - 28 labels, every original release plus multicart label. - $18 shipped in North America Sega 32X Set - 34 labels, every original release for all regions. - $18 shipped in North America Nintendo 64 Set - 310 labels, North American set plus extra labels for cart variants. - $40 shipped in North America Atari 5200 Set - 55 labels, North American set of games that don't already have end labels. - $25 shipped in North America Atari Jaguar Set - 49 labels, every original release - $30 shipped in North America Future sets I have planned are Atari XE and Atari Computer. Open to other suggestions as well! Some info on these labels (copied from my N64 ebay listing but they apply to all of them): Many other sellers claim to have the best set available, let me tell you why mine actually are! These are the absolute best labels that money can buy! - These are designed to look like professional Nintendo brand end labels, like NES and SNES they are HALF CART labels which means you can open your cartridges to clean or change batteries without damaging the labels! No one else does this! - They match other Nintendo carts so they look great on a shelf with your NES and SNES carts. - They are made with waterproof vinyl and stand up to cleaning better than the N64 face labels! Great for when your kids or your friends dirty your games with their Doritos covered fingers. - You can clean these with a Magic Eraser and they won’t fade. They will even stand up to mild rubbing alcohol cleaning! - Each label is precision cut to fit EXACTLY in the gap between the N64 cartridge grooves. These labels aren’t a stock size that you can buy in a store. Very professional looking and easy to apply.

    Harry's Adventures in 7800 Collecting

Two things I would like to show you all: I don't think I've ever shown this little guy off before, but this is my Woody over at my grandparents' house. Over here we have a few games like Basketball, Towering Inferno, and Lock and Chase. I rotate the games out frequently. Mostly multiplayer exclusive games are over here. Thank God, I can play this thing! I have tried Home Run and Crystal Castles out finally; they are fun games! Oh, and that other thing. I just wanted to mention that my grandparents' water heater always gives me hand cramps!

Your plan seems good. Selling locally would be nice. I know a lot of people would like to buy those LD exclusives, but it's hard even to find a box big enough to ship them safely. When I sold mine, I just put the whole lot (with player) on Craigslist.

    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

I wouldn't mess around with GG Sonic 1 on original hardware. That blurry screen looks like it might kill the game. I bought the game for $5 on 3DS Virtual Console and it plays well on there as well. I think it is also on Sonic Gems Collection on GameCube. I think. It's also on the Sega Master System. There are minor differences between the two variations, but they are both the same game at heart. I prefer the GG version, but some like the Master System version better as it has less screen crunch, though it is also less forgiving.

    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

I've always been a Nintendo fan because I love Mario, DK etc. from the arcades in the early 80s. And I agree with you that Genesis and SNES have their strengths. I saw the GG when it first came out, and at the time, I was not impressed with the washed out screen, poor battery life, and the bulk of the handheld. I preferred my GB even if it didn't have color and no backlit screen. Times have changed and so has perspectives although I'm not a big handheld fan. I'll take a look at the GG Sonic video.

    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

I like the Genesis, but it isn't Super Nintendo. Genesis has some stellar arcade-style games, but SNES has better adventure games. I love me my Nintendo IP's. And Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Link's Awakening, F-Zero, Pilotwings... those aren't on Genesis. Genesis is good, but not Super, if you know what I mean. Yeah, I'm surprised the Genesis is so cheap compared to the SNES. I guess it's because many of the games haven't aged as well or the IP's aren't being used at the moment that much. Sonic is the exception I guess. SNES games just seem more memorable and maybe that's why their value is higher. Plus, the series are still getting new entries to this day for the most part. Never been a big Sonic fan or cared much for his games at all with one exception. Sonic 1 on the GameGear/Master System (same thing basically). That game is phenomenal. Sonic 2 is OK in my opinion. I haven't spent much time with it. I will say lots of the classic Sonic games have really good OST's. Listen to the Jungle theme from GG Sonic 1 when you get a chance. It's amazing. It's also on my playlist on my DSi. I'll post the song here. @socrates63 are you sure? You really don't have to do this. That is very kind of you. Thank you.

    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

Last week, there was a give-away by a local gamer/seller to celebrate the growth of the local gamer Facebook group. I won a Genesis cartridge and while I went to pick it up, I got a Genesis model 2 from him for $20. I already had the Genesis arcade joystick (use with 5200) and now with a game in hand, it made sense to grab the console since it was pretty cheap. @HDN send me your address before I ask Rick for it. Consider it a Christmas gift from your I/O "twin" -- we arrived here together.

    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

@socrates63 that's very kind of you, but I'm okay. You don't have to send me anything. You should leave those for the people who are able to put stuff back in the box. Thank you, but I'll have to pass on your offer. By the way, I didn't know you got a Genesis. I don't have a normal Genesis but I do have the AtGames flashback unit. Sound emulation is poor but the games seem to run fine. My model came with some nice wired controllers instead of those crappy wireless infrared ones. My favorite game on the system is Columns III. Mean Bean Machine, Flicky, Goldenaxe, and Gain Ground are also fun. Be on the lookout for the six pack!

    Harry's Adventures in 7800 Collecting

I'm in this same boat. Trying to play. I rarely do. Normally, I'll play the current high score squad game. And also, I play a lot of Nintendo DS (although it takes me forever to complete any given game). I may have mentioned this before, but I had a large LD collection a while back and sold it all (well, I kept a few favorite disks just for the artwork. 2 Star Trek movies and Fantasia). It felt so good, as it really did take up a lot of space (and weight!). Even the players are huge. I understand the allure, and I have nothing against those who still collect LD. It's a cool medium that looks and sounds great. But DVD's are smaller!

    Harry's Adventures in 7800 Collecting

I've only had my Atari consoles for a few months. The pace of my purchases to add games to my library has far exceeded my ability to play them, and that's been true for any gaming platform that I've gotten games for 🙂 As far as how many games have I actually played? Less than 5% but that's what retirement is for 🙂 But in all seriousness, I may pare down my games collection as my collection is pretty large. Earlier this week, I removed all my Playstation Vita and GameCube games from the shelf to make room for my Atari games. I mentioned this in another thread, but this is part of my thinking around evaluating my collection and keeping those that mean the most to me (mainly for space considerations).

    Dreamfall Chapters

Dreamfall Chapters is an episodic adventure game developed by Red Thread Games and Published by Deep Silver. It came out for PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, and Xbox One. It is apart of the game series The Longest Journey. ( I haven't played the previous games yet but I bought them recently) I discovered this game in 2018 and absolutely fell in love with it. From its Amazing Soundtrack. (Soundtrack YouTube) To its Beautiful Sci-Fi Futuristic level design and environment. (Which I enjoyed exploring every inch of) All the way to its core. Its Chose your own adventure style gameplay gives it a high replay value and its story is bound to take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. My friend and I played it roughly at the same time (He started playing a week after I did) and because of choices we made, we had different story's and even a different character. I give this game a 10/10. I have played it multiple times and have had fun every time. If you would like to watch my playthrough of it Click Here. ( Lightning Wolf Corp is a defunct thing I tried if you are curious about it maybe ill make a blog post) You can get the game for $20 on PlayStation and Xbox and $25 on steam. I hope you guys enjoyed my first review I decided not to go to much into the story as to avoid spoilers for those that want to play it. If you want to know more about the story here is the official Website.
