    Your Rarest 2600 Game

New member here, first post! just tested positive for the Covid 19 today (front line healthcare worker so it was bound to happen!) and am just starting my ten day quarantine. . . which hopefully means lots of retro gaming for me! I collect for the VCS, 7800, Odyssey II and Intellivision. . . but I'm mainly a VCS guy. Been on the hunt since starting college so a good twenty years or so. I'm currently at 395 different games in my 2600 collection. My rarest so far (not including repros like Red Sea Crossing, Gamma Attack, Answer Soft's Gauntlet, etc.) would be: Frankenstein's Monster, Time Warp, Demolition Herby (color label), Motocross Racer, Space Master X-7, H.E.R.O., Montezuma's Revenge, Mr. Chin (Dishaster), Rubik's Cube, Stargunner, UFO (Condor Attack), Mr. Do's Castle, Gremlins, Star Wars Arcade, Death Trap, Up N' Down, Tomarc The Barbarian, Cosmic Corridor, River Raid II, Polaris (green label), Robin Hood/Sir Lancelot. . . some of those weren't so rare when I first got them; Frankenstein's Monster was all of two bucks when I got it from a used game store in Traverse City some ten years ago (along with many other gems)! all time favorite is plain old Adventure and I've collected many of it's hacks and similar games like Epic Adventure and Misadventures Revisited. So hard to find something in the wild that I don't already have but I still always look! I consider an on cart repro of LOTR: Journey To Rivendell to be a holy grail as I've yet to find someone who can make one. . . of course Quadrun, Chase The Chuckwagon, Glacier Patrol and all the other usual suspects are up there as well! anyways just thought I'd share and happy hunting!

    StormSurge’s Extra Life 2020

Thanks to all of you who supported me! I apologize for not being able to stream any of my classics. 😞 I am glad I saw @CrossBow's note in Creep's PS3 thread about LA Noire! I've had that sitting there waiting to be played for years & that was the PERFECT game to play for 18+ hours this weekend. I'm going to draw the order for the prizes in the next couple of days. I'm going to hopefully stream that and I will let you know in advance when that will take place. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly my case for 4 Wii's I've come across so far. They make fine emulation stations.

😎😛Was just heading to bed when I looked over on my shelf and noticed my Dreamcast with the weird custom lid and modem cover looks even weirder in the dim blue light emanating from the Christmas star decoration hanging in our living room.

I plan on doing my DSi because 1. The SD on it is easily accessible and regular-sized, 2. You don’t need a Flashcart, and 3. There is very little risk of bricking the system, from what I’ve read at least. I’m too chicken to touch my 3DS as well. With the N3DS, the micro SD is underneath the back panel of the system. That thing is super worn out. I’m afraid it won’t go back on. I haven’t tried taking it off since last year when what I just described was very close to actually happening. I didn’t mod the Wii U part of the system... yet. All I did was mod the vWii part of it. For those who don’t know, the Wii U comes in two parts. There’s the normal Wii U system menu, but there’s also a fully-fledged Wii menu as well. So far, I have only modded the OG Wii part. That thing was completely barren, so no real risks. Plus, I could just reuse the stuff from the original Wii and copy it to a new SD card.

Thats' awesome! I did the letterbomb mod on my regular wii because the optical drive went kaput, but I have not modded my WiiU yet. I am very interested to see the DSi mod if/when you do it - I have not modded any of my DS consoles, but I would love to get my 3DS "unlocked". I have been kind of chicken to do it because I actually have a lot of digital games from the 3ds store that I don't want to risk losing.

I had a lot of time to think over the weekend (marathon, raking leaves, etc.) @Atari Creep & this topic popped up from time to time. You're intimidated by this: but are okay using this? 🤣 That thing was scary to 7 year-old me & still is today!!
  9. 2 points
You know, I hear a lot about the Wii optical drive failing. I was talking to some of my buddies about the Wii the other day, and a lot of them seemed surprised that mine "still worked". Apparently, this is a pretty common problem, or at least from what I've seen. I think that part of the reason that mine still works is that I've barely used the drive. "Barely" relative to the rest of the time spent on the Wii. That thing has gotten a lot of use. My dad said when we got it that he didn't think that thing would last 20 years (that's how old his SNES was at the time). We're quickly approaching the halfway mark on that one! So far, so good.

    Kamakazi's Gaming Extravaganza

After a lot of consideration my channel is, yet again, getting a name change. But this one will be the final one. I'm changing it to just Kamakazi's World. I want to share other things that interest me besides gaming. It has taken me a long time to figure out what all I would like to do with my channel. Finding time to do any videos has not been an easy task with just video games. So in order to expand to include anything I take interest in might prove to be a bit better. To make the transition...ALL current videos will be taken down. I am starting completely over with a new concept and content in mind. This way I can do: Video game play videos Video game reviews Talk about music formats and hardware Reviews on music formats and hardware General technology General technology repairs and upkeep I'm hoping that the switch will offer better content with my target audience not being limited to just video games. I also don't want to limit myself to age groups as my target audience, young or old, might find something entertaining/educational from my videos. Some current videos will be up until close to Christmas but I am already starting the process of removing videos that have not done anything. This will give me time to redesign graphic and video assets for the new channel. My opening theme I used before is being redone with the help of an Atari ST and Casio keyboard. I'm looking forward to the change. Thank you all for subscribing and I hope you will enjoy the new content coming.

Just once, I wanted to break 10,000. But I think 9850 is the best I’m going to get tonight. A childhood favorite revisited. This game kicked my ass, but I had a blast playing it. I’m also pretty happy about getting MAME finally set up. I think I’m going to continue playing after this challenge is over. I look foreword to our next one! I’m ready to emulate whatever I face! Unless it’s VIC-20... This game was played on my newly-modded Wii U system!

I usually always miss out on presales for popular items but I’m buying the lede. The most amazing thing about this is that I somehow managed to keep a $400 gift card balance on Amazon for over a year, specifically for this purpose. I still have time to increase that amount & have it fully paid for by shipping time. This will be my first launch console since the Dreamcast. I’m not overly excited for this as I was for the DC but I’m sure that will change as launch day approaches.

    First PS3

Hey guys and gals. I scored a WORKING PS3 this past weekend. Consoles like this to me are like giving Ray Charles a Ferrari to drive around LOL. Have no idea what to do with such a machine. Never the less, I found it on my neighbors trash pile just as you see it in the images below. Cleaned up nicely and after doing the hair drier trick it works flawlessly. Well it powers on and displays on the TV. Need a controller to move forward and I have one on its way. Any game recommendations aside from the obvious arcade and classic game compilations? Keep in mind I am not good wit double thumbtacks matched with a million button inputs to do anything in a game. LOL

I will try to remember it as "Unsharted" instead of what I was calling it before "Drake Josh". Yes, dad's memory ain't so good any more. Anyone have suggestions for XBOX 360 as well? We also have one of those I can purloin from the kids.

    First PS3

Definitely try out the Uncharted series. It was the reason why I bought the PS3. They felt more like interactive movies to me and were a lot of fun (I played normal difficulty, I think). I was looking to play games with great stories, and my friend hounded me to get the PS3 to play Uncharted. I also enjoyed the Resistance series. It's a first person shooter and a console exclusive. There are many well regarded console exclusives and some have been mentioned already (e.g., Last of Us). God of War also comes to mind.

    Got One!!

I did! I received it on release day, which was a very pleasant surprise. I'm upgrading from the One X, so I don't notice that much of a graphical upgrade yet. I haven't tried any optimized games for the Series X yet (Cold War, AC Valhalla, NBA 2K21) but I will soon. What I have noticed is how incredibly fast it is, loading games, switching between games, etc. and how equally quiet it is. Modern Warfare made my One X scream like a jet engine. This thing is stealthy. I probably wouldn't have tried to upgrade so quickly if I didn't have that Amazon gift card earmarked for this but I certainly don't regret it and am looking forward to what's coming in the future. Once I test some of those games (even Forza Horizon 4), I'll give an update.

Did you get it yet? How is it? Out of the two, I'd probably get the XBox, but I'm not really in the market for either right now.

I haven’t modded anything since the PSP, I think. I do have the Wii and WiiU still hooked up in the family room, but they get no use since the kids have moved on to more modern stuff. I’ll play them... someday.

    The No Swear Gamer

Since I have gotten the new O2 emulator on my Wii and Wii U, I have been playing along with @nosweargamer during Odyssey 2 month. By playing along, I mean checking out some of the games myself. Here are my thoughts on a few that he has reviewed so far: Pick Axe Pete! Confusing at first, but really fun once you understand what it is you’re supposed to do. I mean, really, really fun. Check this one out, now! K.C. Munchkin! A really fun maze game. The game offers a ton of different options including a level editor. Great sound design. Very satisfying, fun, and addictive. However, I feel it’s a tad overrated. It’s great, but not as good as some others on the system. Attack of the Timelord! Probably my favorite O2 game. The game “attacks” all my “time”. I get sucked in, big time. Unfortunately no voice emulation, though that’s expected. Computer Golf! Only marginally better than Atari golf, which as NSG mentioned came later. I like the little fits the dude throws. It’s aged a bit, but it’s very charming. Electronic Table Soccer! Is fantastic. It’s so much fun! A real hidden gem on the system. Controls aren’t great, but don’t ruin the game for me.

So, I recently started a little series of streams on Twitch I've been calling my "UNTIL I DIE" streams. I will pretty much just load up a lot of games in an emulator and play them for one life. Most of them I've never played before and some go very quickly. But as soon as I die the first time, I move on to the next game. I go through quite a few games in one stream, sometimes around 50, 60 or 70 of them depending on how long I stream that day and how terrible I do at the games. Anyway, I started putting "highlight" reels of my deaths on YouTube. (I also do some reviews on novelty and/or relatively uncommon sodas, so some of those are sprinkled in there, too.) Anyway, enjoy my incompetence!

The recently released Super Mario Bros Game and Watch scores a Solid 7/10. When compared to the original Game and Watches its missing some features but there is a lot of goodies that sort of make up for it and it will bring you hours of joy. To start the box has a protective sleeve over it with a neat design on it. (Pictures below) But lets get into the meat of the Handheld the clock has Mario running through a level which you have 3 level faces to choose from that you are able to pick by pressing the Time button. While on the clock screen you are able to interact with the computer Mario that is running on the screen by pressing A or B. By doing so it will drop enemy's into the clock face and Mario will have to try and avoid, or defeat them. There are 35 events that happen on the clock face, from Mario moonwalking to Monty Mole appearing from the ground and running around. Depending on the time of day the face will also change to morning, evening, and night screens as well as change the enemy's that Mario is facing. To set the time and change the volume and brightness you will want to hit the pause/set button on the clock face screen. One hidden feature on the device is on the clock screen if you press and hold the A button for about 5 seconds you will be met with a screen for the Mario Drawing song which has subtitles in 7 different languages. Now there are three games on the device which are located under the games button you have Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, and Game and Watch Ball. If you are in any of the games by pressing the pause/set button you will pause the game and will be met with 3 options Sound, Brightness and Reset game. Now there are some hidden features on the games as well on Mario Bros 1 and 2 if you click the game to start and hold A on the menu for about 5 seconds before starting the game completely you can enjoy the games with Infinite lives which can be nice lol. On Game and Watch Ball if you do the same thing you can swap Marios head for Luigis. Now before we talk about what is missing I want to mention that if you do not have it plugged in it will shut off after not being used for a few minutes and it will show you a going to sleep picture. If you have it plugged in the device will remain on. Now my only Gripes for this Handheld is since it is a clock it would of been nice if Nintendo would have included a kickstand on it like the originals had, and if it would of had a alarm function. I also wish that they would have included one more Game and Watch game making it have a total of 4 games 2 Mario and 2 Game and Watch. Overall I have had a lot of fun with it and would say if you find it at a store id pick it up. It would make a great stocking stuffer or Clock for your desk you can buy stands to put it on at a arts store or online on sites like Etsy etc. I hope you guys enjoyed my review and have a good week everyone. 😃 | Website | Trailer |

53,850 -- the new 8Bitdo gamepad is really paying off One tip... at the basement level where the exit is, if you happen to find yourself far away from a red door, don't try to traverse your way to it. Go for the exit elevator and travel all the way down. If you get to the exit and missed a red door, the game will automatically transport you directly to the red door. It's safer and easier and faster than trying to make your way across the screen.

@RickR I previously used the Xbox 360 wired controller. It detected it automatically and I didn't have to do anything. A few days ago, I got the 8Bitdo SN30 Pro wired controller, and RetroPie also automatically detected it and set it up without any work on my end. This gamepad is great.

I'm 100% all for more MAME. Just because I had a bit of bad luck here would never mean I would not want to try either a beloved classic or something new to me. 🙂
  37. 1 point
Don't feel bad! This is our first MAME challenge. And I think it's clear that the platform is a mess. Too many different versions of MAME, emulator front-ends, and ROM sets make it hard to find consistency for all of us. Check to see if you have "Taito Legends" on any of your other systems (PS2, XBOX, etc) as the game is on there. Hopefully, this won't be the last time we do a challenge on an arcade game. But we'll need to find a better way to make it accessible for everyone. Maybe one of the games readily available on the most common compilations or plug & play units? Ideas are always welcome.

44,900 -- the action gets intense pretty quick after level 3! It doesn't take long to find yourself surrounded. I got the SN30 Pro gamepad by 8Bitdo the other day, and while I'm not a fan of gamepads, this one is very good. The d-pad is certainly very responsive and comfortable.
