    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

Ok, here's what I took out. Even with what I took out, I still couldn't fit in a few things, so I'll save those for the next time. The box is leaving the house with a slightly bigger bulge than when it arrived -- kinda like mah belly after dinner I've been reconnecting with some 80s movies lately, so it's good to have these DVDs. I now have NES and N64 cartridges in the collection 🙃 Maybe I'll get the consoles later 😋

    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

The junk box arrived yesterday from @chas10e. It is heavy and bulging! Good thing it's a flat rate box. I can't believe some of the stuff that's in it. It's going to be tricky to figure out how to make room to fit in my stuff. @RickR I plan to send it your way tomorrow. And @HDN your box will go out tomorrow when I ship this one back to Rick. Thanks for waiting and sorry for keeping you waiting, but I wanted you to wait as long as I did 😄 That was part of my reasoning for not shipping it to you sooner.

Don't forget to take pictures of what you took out (and post them here), and also take pictures of what you put in (and post them at end of the box's journey). THANKS!

    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

🤣 So true. I was very tempted to build a second box. I actually did fill a second box at one point but decided that would ruin the purpose of the exercise -- to cause mental anguish and decision-making.

    The 2020 Retro Game/Junk Box

Great Picks! I've yet to see SMB: The Movie, but both The Wizard and Cloak & Dagger make for good popcorn flicks. These junk boxes also have a way in helping people start new collections! I know I've gotten games before for system I wouldn't get until later. Well, most of my stuff has been taken, except for a few things, so it'll be fun to see what Rick gets when the box returns to him! Side note: I don't think anyone has ever said "I had more than enough room to fit in everything I wanted to put in!" 😂

Young, don't apologize! This is a very nice thing you're doing here. I don't mind the wait and never really did. I was only kidding when I said this unopened box here was torture! Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

Hey, folks, I have been studying up on "Black ICE/White Noise," the cyberpunk RPG thriller for the Atari Jaguar CD, that was never completed before Atari's demise in 1996. It has been intriguing looking up information on it. It really interests me about how much effort was put into making this game. Well, I really don't know how much of the game is out there, if anything significant at all. I know that there are interactive video scenes compressed into Cinepak code when the player interacts with NPCs to get information and other things in the game. I have watched videos on YouTube about scenes from this still embryonic-stage game (or, maybe fetal-stage, if you might want to get technical about it). There is a documentary about the game that is coming soon, but I have only seen the trailer on YouTube. I am sure that some people are most curious about this obscure, incomplete game. I obviously am. Does anyone else know anything more about this topic? I assume it might be very little. Atari kept it really under wraps. Thanks for listening.

Really nice stuff. Interestingly, there's stuff you took that I put in there hoping it would make it to you! What's the plastic-wrapped thingie front/left?

Yeah, GD-ROM sort of dealt with Windows CE and stuff, from what I remember now. The Dreamcast was neat, I got one at Launch on 9/9/99. 🥰🥰

Well, the 25 Discs (26 if you include the Soundtrack Disc) and the Source Code, several MBs of that I have too, it amounts to a bit of weight, and a bit of a pile to look over and widen your eyes with. 😄😄 Most wouldn't believe that they were looking at $3-5 million dollars wasted and a lot of blood, sweat, tears and sleepless nights just thrown away by four upper level people in a company... Really and truly a really sorry sad state of affairs there, you know. It kind of pisses off an old Jaguar fan too!! Just what all did they really throw away in the trash? Did they care? Did they even know? The Black Ice Team really did know and care!!! 😄😄😞😞

I thought that you meant the main code for one disc. But, I guess with a 700 MB CD-R, it still would be well more than 9,560 lines of code. It's actually a lot of space, for a compact disc, for most things. Also, the Jaguar CD can handle disc capacities of up to 790 MB. but, the CDs never went that high for the Jag. However, I think that there were 800MB CDs. Well, there were the GD-ROMs for the Dreamcast, which could go up to a gigabyte in size. But, I am sure that those discs were specially made for that purpose.

Does anyone know if these are available to purchase anywhere? This link says they are on back order: http://www.atarisales.com/cx30evolved.html For those that purchased this year, any idea when they might be available on this site, or if they might be available anywhere else? Thanks in advance!

I haven't heard it was that high. Lots of conjecture and rumors though on it. Many people would love to get it or find the code that is left to see. 🙂🙂
  21. 1 point
Yeah, it amounts to 25 or 26 (27?) Recordable CDs that still exist, it seems. I understand, Atari paid $7.50ea for the CDs back then. 🙂🙂
  22. 1 point
No. There are many ISO 9560 Files for this that exist, I guess. I am told, that it is raw code and it amounts to some 20GB in the uncompressed state it is in now and being unencrypted. Years ago, Curt Vendel ended up with everything that still survived of this rather ambitious Atari project -- Atari had spent between $3 and 5 million dollars getting it to the 30% completion state in ended up at (was it is a higher percentage? ). The last day of production on this was, Sept 7th 1995, I believe. The Black Ice Team was disbanded and the project was abandoned that day. All materials were trashed or auctioned off by Jack/Sam Tramiel/the famous ( infamous? ) Don Thomas Actions of 1996, I understand. The HDDs and everything just disappeared to it and were lost, it seems. The HDDs have never been found and Curt did not seem to have them. None of the Team was allowed to keep anything from the project by Leonard or Atari Security when they each left and everything halted. Little of the project still survives nowadays, you know. The sands of time have claimed everything else that existed and it has been lost, it seems... Really sad. 😞😞😞😞

Yeah, there is quite a bit of code around for it, I guess. 9560, I believe.

So rather than attach a Patreon to my channel or turn the "join" button on I have started a Discord Server thing. The idea is to offer some advantages folks get from the other services without a stupid pay wall. Things like being able to vote on or suggest topics, participate in contests/giveaways, early access to videos and anything else I think of. Still figuring out what to do with it. So if you are subbed to my channel, feel free to join. Right now we are talking about the latest HSSC and @btbfilms76 paddle controller giveaway. https://discord.gg/Zc3xK8vz

Here's a video I watched today and used as a guide to set up the Odyssey 2 emulator. It's very helpful. This guy also has a pretty cool "console libraries" series, in which he takes a look at a console, does a quick "first impression" thing, and then rates it. He's done a fair amount of Atari systems so far, including the 7800. But I digress. Watch this video or just skip to the system you would want to see first. If you have questions, I will try to help the best I can. I'm relatively new to this, but I can help a little bit.

    NSG's Toys & More Tuesdays

I used to have a Vtech learning computer when I was little, obviously much more modern than this one. It had an LCD pixel matrix thing, like a cross between Tiger Electronic LCD Games and true Dot Matrix displays like the one seen on Game Boy. Very low resolution. I had a Thomas the Tank Engine learning computer circa 2007 and this one without the license (exact clone of the Thomas one but with a monkey instead of trains) circa 2009. It is very obvious that they were evolutions of this computer. About that University of Michigan fight song you made early in the video, @nosweargamer. I have a funny story somewhat related to that. A few years ago I found this really cool hat in the basement that happened to fit me perfectly. It was really comfortable and I still wear it to this day. I am not a big sports guy like, at all, so I had no idea that this was a Michigan hat. I only know the sports teams around here that no one will shut up about: the Packers, the Bucks, and the Brewers. I know a few others, like the more famous ones like the Dodgers and the Patriots, but I don't pay much attention to them in the slightest. So, fast-forward to a few months ago, I'm mowing the lawn at my grandparents' house and they are sitting out on the deck talking and stuff. I'm finished mowing the lawn and I come out onto the deck to join them. I have the hat on as it has sort of become my lawn-mowing hat. The first thing my grandpa says to me is: "Harry, at Christmas I am going to get you a real hat." I'm like, "What are you talking about? What is wrong with my hat?" He replies while pointing to the M: "That. We need to get you a hat with Bucky Badger on it instead. You need to be a bit prouder of your state." I know nothing about sports. I'm completely oblivious. I do really like some sports games, and I do know the rules and things of all of the sports, but I have no idea about any of the non-Wisconsin teams or any players or statistics. I will just stick with Home Run, Ten-Yard Fight and One-on-One for the time being. Or was it a Michigan state hat? They're different things, right? Sorry, no absolutely nothing about Michigan sports. Just a comfortable hat. It just says Michigan on the inside and has a M on the front of it.

    NEW AVP prototype found!

What do we think gang? Is this the real thing? http://retrogamingmagazine.com/2015/03/08/prototype-new-version-of-alien-vs-predator-found-for-atari-lynx/ Im guessing he's never played a Lynx due to his snotty attitude and lazy video game journalism, but this is a new find regarding AVP on the Lynx. Sound off Marine.
