🧠 PRO-TIP: Presales aren't allowed on Atari I/O. Even with the best intentions, sincere promises of "ready to ship in six months" many times become tumultuous as months turn into years or even a decade without fulfillment. Please wait until your product is ready to ship before soliciting sales in our Marketplace.

I LOVE NES games, and there were some cheap ones that I've thought about picking up on eBay. However, one of the people that I live with is definitely high-risk, and I don't want to bring COVID germs into our house from buying a used game on eBay. I do have a container of 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes, and I wonder if wiping down a cartridge with those would work, or if leaving the game outside (inside our garage) for a certain length of time would work. Any suggestions?

This! If you don't do anything else at least do this. Before you open the box (it is said that COVID is airborne and doesn't attach to surfaces) put on gloves and a mask to protect yourself. You might think about opening the box in a room of your house seldom used like a garage or something. Wash your hands before and after handling your package and its contents. Washing hands often is the first line of defense.

I've gotta get in on this! Great scores so far, everyone! I think that this and Ms. Pac-Man were my most played 2600 games as a kid. I definitely have a soft spot for the 2600 port of Q*bert. These days I prefer the late Ken Siders' amazing b*nQ for 7800 but the Parker Bros. version on the 2600 really does a fine job of bringing the game home and mostly intact.

    eBay's new seller requirements

Who else has concerns? Essentially, they will no longer allow Paypal payments. For sellers, they are asking for: Your SSN (why, I'm not sure). A real bank account - to deposit sale payments and also to withdraw fees. On the plus side: They won't take fees until buyers pay. Why did this simple change take so long? I still sell on ebay. My plan is to come up with a free savings account and use that. All of this starts Feb 1 I think. Your thoughts, please.

What I do is that I touch the cartridge as I would normally do. What I don't do is touch my face without first washing my hands. I will use hand sanitizer if I'm touching multiple items and I don't even wait for the sanitizer to dry entirely, so what I touch gets some of the sanitizer on itself as well. At times, if it is something I'm not in a hurry to get, I just let the box sit for a day or two as the virus won't survive for more than that on the cardboard. In general, the more porous the surface, the faster the virus dies. When I open the box, I still don't touch my face until I have washed my hands and I still use sanitizer as I described above.

My advice: I think that you have every right to be concerned here, @dave4shmups. It's nice to see people taking this pandemic seriously. @RickR is right about COVID being much, much, much harder to contract from surfaces. You'd most likely be alright, but it's nice to be careful. What I'd do in your scenario is open the box and take out the games. Wipe down the box, wash your hands well afterwards. With the cartridges, I'd let them sit out in your garage or something for a couple of days to air them out for a couple of days. And good on you for building your NES collection! It's something I hope to do this year as well.

I think it's a good (and timely) question. All of this is my own opinion, your mileage may vary. I feel that the ability of contracting COVID from surfaces is much much smaller than from exposure to particles in the air. For the stuff I get through the mail, I know it's been untouched for several days inside the box as it's made it's way through the mail system. I will give it a quick wipe down and call it good. The external mailing box - I'll recycle those and wash my hands really well after opening.

    eBay's new seller requirements

I don't trust eBay to have direct access to my bank account. At least PayPal served as a buffer between the two. There've been more than one occasion over the past two and a half decades that I've been on eBay where they've acted unfairly or attempted an unreasonable chargeback without notice. Two months after an order is delivered someone decides they don't want it and hundreds of dollars get taken out of your account. I can imagine the unexpected overdrafts some people are going to face. That's a serious problem. A lot of people turn to eBay to sell things in times of need.

    Squad Challenge - Q*bert (Atari 2600)

I love, love, love Q*Bert. It's one of my all-time favorite 2600 games. I sure hope I'll get around to it. It's been pretty hectic around here. Why haven't I had time to play? Well, let me tell you about it all:

I'm so excited. My thirteen games from Scott (which I mentioned earlier) are finally on their way here. The USPS has been super slow recently, but I don't mind waiting. I'm excited to share them with you when they arrive tomorrow (according to the USPS tracker, though it may be delayed).

    eBay's new seller requirements

So from my understanding, sellers can still accept paypal for payment. Also, I think ebay is not forcing every seller to do this at once. How were you notified Rick? Do you get a e-mail and a message through ebay or just e-mail? If you don't mind me asking, what was the subject line. I may search my e-mail to make sure I didn't miss something.
