  1. 🕹️ Added "Atari Museum Archive" to the MORE Dropdown Menu under BROWSE in the Nav Bar at the top of the page. With one click you can easily access the most recent wayback archive of Curt Vendel's Atari Museum website. This is a stopgap measure until I can develop something more permanent.

There are probably a lot of little features like that in the software that we don't know about.  Always fun to learn new things!

But like @Jinroh said, this is a fun and chill place to hang out.  Thank you, @Justin and all who participate.

I have no reason to ignore anyone here.  You have given a safe haven to hang out online.  The Atari part is just a bonus.  I don't see a bar....oh wait, there it is!!  Hold my beer...I'll be right back.

  5. 🖖 Atari Age members are welcome here. Atari VCS players are welcome here. Young people just discovering the World of Atari are welcome here. Atari alumni are welcome here. Atari I/O is a Disney World of classic gaming - a place for people of all interests, ages and skill levels to gather and make friends discussing our favorite hobbies - and continuing the adventure of what comes NeXT.

I agree with this.  Atari was about family and friends spending time together, it wasn't always about the games.  Atari is how and why I learn how to be social.  Doesn't matter where you are from, we are all here for the same reason.  And we all need a break from life.  So sit down, visit with people on here, and enjoy a good game.  It doesn't even have to be an Atari game.  Whatever game you want to play...the idea is to enjoy yourself.  Come here and lower your stress level.  See?  Atari Pac-Man is good for something after all!

  6. I'm hearing this @RickR guy has a reputation of being "a really nice fellow".

  7. Congrats to @socrates63 on his 2nd big Squad Challenge win in a row! Incredible. GET WELL SOON!

  8. I was shocked and saddened to see that "The Condor" Kevin Mitnick - the legendary hacker and security expert, who I've followed on Instagram and Twitter for years, passed away at the age of 59 from Pancreatic Cancer. I had no idea. He leaves behind a pregnant wife. 😔

  9. Busy weekend, I haven't forgotten you guys 🙂

    1. RickR

      RickR

Busy is the new normal for many!  Don't worry about the lot of us vagabonds.  We understand completely.

I've been unable to participate in the VCS challenges because my gaming room has been taken over by visiting adult children!  I would move the VCS downstairs, but that involves undoing all the wiring and just thinking about it makes me tired.  In any case, we should be back to empty-nest status later this week.

Everything's all set to go! Things get a little busy sometimes but I'll never forget or abandon you guys. It's been a rough year.

  11. 🏴‍☠️ Our hosting platform experienced a bit of downtime overnight. If you were unable to get into the Forums, it wasn't anything specific to Atari I/O, just some general maintenance on our platform's end.

I wondered, the site loaded and even threads but I could not log in or click to read anything without erroring out. Glad it's all sorted. 😎

I had to hold off on posting my Arkanoid Pinball score.  I'm still in 2nd place, and will try to beat your score!

It's been Discord for me, though I'm fortunate to have had more positive experiences on that app (largely because the Discord I've joined are all video-game related as well as moderated).

      Sabertooth

I chat with a few select folks pretty regularly in Discord or Twitter. It's nothing like in the old Yahoo or AIM days though.

This is good to hear @Sabertooth. Feel free to pin this as a topic in Club VCS if you'd like. This land of hyped false narratives is exactly why I don't dive too deeply into this stuff outside of trusted sources who we know through Atari I/O or similar.

    3. RickR

      RickR

I guess one good thing that came from the erroneous/incomplete news is that a lot of people bought a VCS during the holidays, thinking either it would be their last chance or would be a collector item.  Couple that with the awesome holiday sale on software, and I sure hope Atari got some great financial results during December.

    4. Justin

      Justin

@RickR Yes, let's hope! Atari has been doing a good job of listening to and respecting the hopes and dreams of their fans, and in my view when they make a sincere, authentic effort to do that they've earned our dollars. I hope they continue to do well!

  18. 🤔 Idk about you but I can’t remember the last time I animated a .gif

      Justin

You know I realized I do remember the last time I created an animated web graphic - it was about 7 years ago when I created the animated emojis for this site. Like the one with E.T. moving his neck, etc. Technically I think those were saved as .png as opposed to .gif but man-oh-mannnn did I used to animate .gifs back when we first got started. I'd dial up, log the hell on line, start surfing the net and create animated .gifs which would get posted on Atari7800.com and AtariAge. Also Atari Joe's GeoCities page and Angelfire.com

GeoCities and Angelfire — haven’t heard of those for a long while

  19. 💬 Added a dedicated "Status Updates" page to the nav menu, it's like our own little Twitter.

THANK YOU @RickR It's something I've wanted to add for a long time and something that should've been native to the site to begin with. They have value beyond showing the handful of "Recent Status Updates" on the right of the Forums home page. In a community our size we should be able to scroll through and see everybody's updates, going back longer than just a couple of days. I think a dedicated Status Updates page is overdue and will work out awesome.

I'm playing VCTR-SCTR and Neo-Breakout on Atari 50 (VCS). The Digital Eclipse folks really "get" the original games and recapture their spirit in the reimagined versions. They are hard to put down and well worth the price of entry.

    1. RickR

      RickR

I don't know your context, but I'm in general, I agree!  Give me the "why" and you'll have a much better chance of having me follow.

If it's relationship based....open up and be free to be yourself.

    2. Justin

      Justin

      That’s a very thoughtful take, @RickR.

I mean it just in general - in a multitude of ways. Open architecture. Open source. Open internet. Open hearts. Open minds. It’s more difficult to keep things contained than set them free. Life finds a way.
