    Happy Pac-Man Day.

Anna is a terrific co-host! That's really interesting that even with twins, one kid thinks 2600 Pac-Man is fun and the other doesn't. I always had fun with this game regardless. This was a cool episode to watch, I had never heard that rumor that 2600 Pac-Man was actually still a prototype. I hope you guys had a great Pac-Man Day!

  2. Here's a question for all the original owners who were there on Day 1: Did you think Atari 2600 Pac-Man was bad when you first got it? Was it a huge disappointment out of the box? Or did you enjoy the heck out of playing that game and only later came to realize the rest of the world thought it was bad?

Genuinely curious to see if you guys had varying experiences and there was a bit of a "Mandela Effect" going on, or if everybody was on the same page from Day 1 saying "It stinks!"

I AGREE!!  completely agree!  It would be different for a company to mingle with the customers it does business with.

Lance has always been invited to play in High Score Squad but he's always been busy with things it seems. He's the one guy left on earth who owns almost every single game ever made, hopefully he can join in sometime :pole_position_blimp:

That would be cool and different.  And I believe Battleship is the only board game where one player's move is mirrored on the other player's board.  I would suggest every boat be left in place even after being sank so that at the end of the game both side can show what their setup looked like.

Yes I agree. And if we do this I hope this is one Squad Challenge that we could get @Video 61 to join in on.

I love Battleship.  I wonder if there is a way to play the board game with someone else online?

If we did a board game as a Squad Challenge it would work sort of like 2-Player Battle. Each turn we take we'd just message the other player what our move is, and expect everybody to play honestly.

My workplace was getting rid of that TV last year (until recently they still did training videos on VHS), so they let me have it before they threw it away. I had a CRT TV already, but no VCR. (Also, this one has composite input.) I picked up a bunch of VHS tapes at thrift stores. (They are so cheap now!) Here are some of them. I still need to watch a few of these... I certainly have the time right now.

That's a cool story! Looks like you made out like a bandit. This seems like the inspiration for a great thread in the TV and Movies forum. I'm wondering about those "Adventures of Sherlock Homes" VHS movies, are those intended for kids or is that something more adult?

    People don't like it????  Why?

This version perfectly displays the power of the 7800.  No flicker and really fast movement.  No other Atari system before the 7800 could do it like this.

I AGREE! And it was programmed by the same guys who designed the 7800, so they knew what they were doing. I've seen 7800 Ms. Pac-Man roundly criticized in some circles for having sluggish controls, that the NES version is so much better, blah blah blah. I always thought of the 7800 as being "the Neo-Geo" of its time with its ability to bring some of these classic arcade games home in such nice detail.

I love this version!  Everything starts flying around at high speed on that pretzel level.

I love this version too! Some people really don't like it, but for me growing up I always thought it was as close to the arcade version as I had played. Glad you enjoyed it! I'm trying to rotate through all of the Pac-Man games every year for National Pac-Man Day without repeating too often. I'm glad you guys are enjoying this!

I'm in!  You ought to do a 2600 Ms. Pac-Man Squad Challenge along side this one, too 😉

We celebrate National Pac-Man Day annually with a different Pac-Man game every year. There's only so many Pac-Man games to go through without repeating, so we're saving 2600 Ms. Pac-Man for another year :pac_man:

    Message

Welcome to our 76th Squad Challenge! We're celebrating National Pac-Man Day this month with a few rounds of Ms. Pac-Man on the Atari 7800! Ms. Pac-Man was one of the first titles released on the 7800 and a must-have for any Atari 7800 aficionado. We're still keeping things light and breezy as we deal with this Coronavirus situation and get back into the swing of things in the forums, so kick back, relax, and put on a nice easy game of 7800 Ms. Pac-Man. I hope you guys are ready for a new season of High Score Squad and good luck to everybody participating!

NOTE: Upcoming Squad Challenges will be simple and straightforward until the site issues are completely resolved. We'll dive deeper with some fun Squad Challenges this summer. Thanks for playing, and enjoy!

This game is excellent, but it doesn't quite live up to Shark Shark.  Mostly because it starts too slow.  The real fun and points start to rack up only when your fish is bigger, and that takes a while.

It's really fun though, and thank you for doing this challenge!  It's so awesome to try new games.

So you're saying that if George Plimpton were to compare the Atari 2600 fish game with Intellivision® Shark! Shark!, he'd think you'd agree that Intellivision® Shark! Shark! plays like the real thing?

  12. :pole_position_blimp_big: Congratulations RickR!

Congratulations @RickR! What a fantastic score! I hope this was a fun challenge, we don't often get to play homebrew games in Squad Challenge, I think that's something we can do move of in the future. Shark! Shark! was always one of my favorite games on Intellivision and it was interesting to see a Shark! Shark! inspired homebrew hit the Atari 2600. A simple but fun concept. Thanks everyone for turning out to play a homebrew Squad Challenge. How do you think Go Fish! compares to other homebrew games on the Atari 2600? Does it live up to the fun of Shark! Shark! on the Intellivision?

@RickR posted an impressive score of 2,649 points! The legendary @TrekMD ranked 2nd on the leaderboard with 1,717 points, and @RadioPoultry was right behind him with 1,488 points. @chas10e rounds things out with a solid showing of 831 points. Congrats to RickR for his top ranking and to everyone who jumped in this squad challenge and shared a score! I'd like to encourage RickR to post his new high score on the Scoreboard, and let's make sure this Challenge continues on!

NOTE: Our next High Score Squad Challenge will be a special challenge celebrating National Pac-Man Day. Be there!

    March 30, 2020

    ROUND 1: @Justin
    ROUND 2: @Atari Creep
    ROUND 3: @Justin

Atari Creep and I played Food Fight on the 7800 over the weekend. We completed the first two rounds, and then Atari Creep went live on his Instagram to finish the 3rd round. My recollection is his best score for the 3rd round beat me by a few thousand points. He wasn't able to save the stream though so we didn't have the record of the final round that we thought we would. Chris insists he didn't top my score and that I won the 3rd round so I'll take the Win only begrudgingly. We're gonna go for a rematch again pretty soon.
