TeddyGermany got a reaction from MistaMaddog in How Atari box art turned 8-bit games into virtual wonderlands
That is the "ANYTHING GOES" of Atari!
It was the promise of a better future. There was a glimpse of a better future, an utopic version of all that could be.
Call me crazy, but that was my Atari. I grew up with Captain Future and the possibility to explore the universe and an utopic perspective. This may be childish, but i remember this from time to time and i feel good.

TeddyGermany got a reaction from Keatah in Why you NEED to take Amiga seriously
In the 90ies i had worked with an Amiga 2000. A 030 processor was included, also 41 MB RAM, a graphiccard, two HDS and a CDROM. And yes i had used that machine for my academic studies and it does well. With the wordworth 5 text editor it was a pleasure to write.
There are also other reasons to take the Amiga seriously.

I agree with one exception, but that is a matter of taste. Rampage is imho a boring game in every version.
Please don't blame me for that.

TeddyGermany got a reaction from RickR in Does anyone collect gaming magazines?
I collect old magazines, mainly german mags! Telematch, which was a partnermag of Electronic Games, Happy Computer, PowerPlay, Video Games, Man!ac [sic!], Mega Fun, Fun Generation, Next Level and so on. And for sure many Amiga magazines like the Amiga Special, Amiga Magazin an of course the Amiga Joker, which still has many fans until today!

Well this week has been full of updates.
First, we have a preview video of Tempest 4000. The same video shown for the PS4/PC/XB1 version of the game. It's excellent looking, but I am sure this isn't a VCS. The tag line on their FB post suggests that it could be: "Atari VCS plays new games! Check out Tempest 4000 - an Atari classic reinvented for today." As it is, this would only be a good thing for Atari if it were an exclusive.
https://www.facebook.com/atariVCS/videos/452717445166177/
Next up is a first look at "very early" test animations of what a user "could" see at boot up. It looks clean and all but it not that impressive. There is also no indication that this is running on hardware.
https://www.facebook.com/atariVCS/videos/453958355042086/
Two weeks out from the campaign launch and all we know for sure is that it will play 2600 games and Tempest 4000. I already have those boxes checked. Where are the exclusives? Who are the developers? Will it handle other legacy Atari platforms? Color me a skeptic.

TeddyGermany got a reaction from dgrubb in 10 of my favorite AMIGA games....
Hm, Amiga games! I have a bunch of good memories!
1. North & South
A strategy game about secession war, based on a french comic. Highly recommended.
2.Defender of the Crown
Conquer England in less than half an hour. I still love the graphics done by Jim Sachs.
3. Wings
Great game about WWI.
4. No greater glory
Again civil war. Great strategy game made by SSI.
5.The Chaos Engine
Gauntlet styled game by the Bitmap Brothers and brutally difficult.
6. Fightin ' Spirit
Ok, a Street Fighter II clone, but look at Street Fighter games in their Amiga Iteration! Sad story!
7. Lionheart
Brilliant plattformer with epic audiovisual presentation.
8. Lords of the rising sun
Defender of the Crown sequel, settled in medieval japan with a more elaborate gameplay.
9.Flight of the Amazon Queen
Very funny Point&Click-Adventure not done by LucasArts.
10. Populous
Very good RTS game.
I could name many further titles, especially the games of Cinemaware or others, which were also published on PC or consoles.

I was a big Amiga fan in the late 90s, right after Commodore imploded and PCs took over the world entirely. As this was prior to the retro-scene explosion old Amiga kit was perceived as worthless and very easy to find at car boot sales, junk shops and the like for next to nothing. Consequently, I was able to get my hands on a bunch of 500s, 500+s, a 600 and a 1200 (sadly, sold off when I moved to the US).
Stunning machines, even back then. True pre-emptive multitasking OS on a consumer mid-80s machine was practically unheard of, for instance.
My favourites, in no particular order:
Syndicate
Civilization
Worms
Zool
Ruff N' Tumble
Elite (and its sequel, Frontier)
Alien Breed
Secret of Monkey Island II
Beneath a Steel Sky

Top 10 AMIGA games. Well, certainly such lists are subjective and I am not saying all or any were exclusives, indeed some may have been better or more popular elsewhere but my fond memories of them originated on AMIGA so simply I will name 10 games that I highly enjoyed going back to those may years ago when I had original Amiga hardware. I will go with -
1. Lemmings
2. Stunt car Racer
3. SkidMarks
4. Turrican
5. The Chaos Engine
6. Battle Squadron
7. Zany Golf
8. Zenon II Megablast
9. The Secret of Monkey Island
10. Flashback
To be clear, this was literally the first things that sprang to mind off the top of my head and could likely change dramatically from moment to moment and I could literally think of dozens if not hundreds more and that is not even including various PD / Shareware / Demos and well if I am honest tons and tons of pirated titles I traded for back in the day. Was such a wonderful platform.

Yes, but the marketing side of things could be a question of to be or not to be! Do they believe in their own product? I have my doubts, because they seem to take fright at publishing it. They have announced the Box nearly one year ago and want to publish it in a year. Sorry, but they haven't the PS5 or Xbox Two to offer. They can't tell me now, what i'll get for my money, but i have to pay now for a clammy handshake. This is not reputable. And that kills my euphoria.

So I sense a shift in some opinions after the latest round of news broke:
https://youtu.be/I7GrVmE8yUU
In my previous update videos, opinions had been mixed pretty equally, sometimes leaning towards optimism.
However in my latest video, it seems that opinions are now 90/10 negative.
I think that lack of exclusive games, the fact that the base price might not include a controller and one year pre-order really hurt.

In that case, i prefer tacos!
I ask myself, why aren't they selling their Atari VCS in shops or by retailers? Even in Germany many newspapers, gaming magazines and internetpages are informing about their new console, the Flashback 8 Gold can be found in consumer electronics retailer shops etc.
The VCS will be delivered in spring 2019? Hm, i think, in that time the PS5 hype train is on its way. Could be really a bad decision to publish the baby in that time.
What they really need is a bunch of interesting games. The real VCS was a success for that reason. The name Atari VCS is only interesting for the old Atari fans, no contemporary gamer and no gaming kids are interested in a Linux computer with woodfront finish and a lack of fresh titles.
I was really excited about the first news about the Ataribox and i grant success to the new Atari, but i do not think, that this Atari VCS would be successful. Not in the way, they choose to market their product.
And sorry for that... but that Centipede snippet makes me laugh. The Tramiels always were bashed for their management decisions and marketing, but compared to that, they were the kings of the hill!

Compared with DOS and early Windows, the AmigaOS was lightyears ahead. Even rockhard PC-Users i knew in that time had agreed about that.

TeddyGermany got a reaction from Atari 5200 Guy in Who all has a 2600 Jr. ?
I own four Junior-models:
2x with big rainbow,
1x with small rainbow,
1x the Black Beauty.
Needless to say, they are all PAL-models.
And yes, they have a nice'ncrisp picture on TV-screen.
I think, that Atari had published a lot of great and decent games in the late 80ies. So i always have a good feeling, when i see the Juniors or the games in red boxes.

Thanks for waking up this thread ,
I agree completely, even today (though sadly emulation) when I load up workbench I remember it like it was yesterday, I got pretty into that OS, I use to put my own custom versions of Workbench together on floppy with my a500 and would cram as much of my favorite programs onto the single WB boot disc, I would customize the colors and even, because I could and it impressed my PC friends, use startup commands to make the Amiga "speak" to me lol, so workbench would load up while saying something like "Hello Rob, what would you like to do today?", yes I was a nerd. I loved it though. BACK THEN, I could not understand why my friends were bothering with ISA conflicts, sound card incompatibilities etc. I loved just throwing in a game floppy and it just loaded by itself! A sad ending of Commodore and AMIGA but I would not change a thing in my personal computing history, to this very day (I am 50 years old now) and I still have very vivid memories of my days with A500 and later A1200, nothing felt quite like an AMIGA before or since and it seems only users from back in the day really understand that.

1. In those days (1986) i had a C64 and was curious about the new Amiga. In 1986 i saw my first A1000 in a Commodore-Shop and was totally flashed about Graphics, Sound and first of all the GUI. Back at home, the C64 was soo outdated! But the costs of 6000 Deutsche Mark were my way back to reality!
2.Everything about the girl. The Games and the possibilities of that machine.
3. 1989 i got my A500 and was happy about it. Playing games was certainly the destiny of that machine. 1991 i bought an A2000, which later got a Turboboard, 41 MB RAM. Graphics board, CDROM and two harddiscs. I used the machine for my studies in university. 1999 i changed to PC, because there were no support for Amiga anymore. Since last summer the A2000 is back on my desk and i am really surprised again and again, how comfortable the Amiga OS 3.1 was and is.
