Say, just curious...any of you ever used AmigaOS4? I remember it came out around 2003, 2004, and there were new machines for it, powered by G3 processors. There were a line of "AmigaOne" computers for a while, and those things sold out, and for years there were no systems available for OS4 until a few years ago when there was the "Sam" line of motherboards...

I had a MicroAmiga1-C for a couple of years...that thing was a dream...Amiga brought up to speed with current technology (although there still wasn't a good up-to-date web browser or Java yet).....I could actually encode MP3s quickly, apps opened in a second or two, etc.

I'm not entirely sure the comparisons to Coleco Chameleon are warranted. This may well end up being a flop or a complete waste of time, but unlike the Chameleon everything that's been announced (streaming, emulation and Minecraft-level games) is realistic for a small team to accomplish using off-the-shelf components (Linux on a low-end Intel device with an AMD GPU). There's no large scale custom FPGA work to do, for instance. I can at least see the path to actually building something.

Whether what they build will be desirable to Atari fans or a new customer base remains to be seen, but that's an entirely different issue than faked up prototypes obscured with electrical tape.

I been calling this one out since the first mention of the guy behind it. Other than the name and some renders and a lot of HYPE they got NOTHING. Just more whoring of the Atari brand name to nostalgic fans who will shell out money for anything "officially licensed" and of course the minute you question or call it out or ask questions those with dreams and wishes will quickly label you anti ATARI or call you hater etc. NO, my history and current collection verify I am a HUGE Atari fan and want only the best for the name and company except this "ATARIBOX / ATARI VCS" is has has never been anything more than a marketing train wreck created by Fergal MacConuladh who merely licensed the name for use on this project.

Seems like the FB Atari fans are having mixed feelings about the name change but all of them pretty much say the same thing that Teddy just mentioned.  For the price they are asking for the AtariBox (that's the name I'm sticking with) I could think of a whole bunch of physical Atari games that have been here for decades I don't have that I would rather spend that money on.  Hell, for the price they are going for these days, that would buy a whole bunch of Wii games.  Am I alone thinking that way?

Don't have high hopes for that 'Atari whatever'. I think, the kid is dead in the cradle.

    No games!
    No price!
    No specs!
    Nothing really new!
We all know the same as one year ago. Nearly nothing.
E.G.: Daimler announces a new car. No chassis, no technical infos, no price to offer. Only the possibility to preorder. Who would catch that offer?

    Must have titles for Lynx!

    Here we go:

    Blue Lightning
    Chequered Flag
    Rygar
    Xybots
    Robotron 2084
    Ninja Gaiden
Zaku with one big disadvantage: It's hard to find and everything else than cheap!
    Rampart

There are many more excellent titles, but this selection should help to build a fine collection.

TeddyGermany reacted to ro.anders in Adventure (Review, Easter Egg & More)
I wrote to this forum a year ago asking for help rebooting Atari Adventure.  My crazy idea: 2 or 3 players connecting over the internet playing Atari Adventure.  First one to get the chalice back to their castle wins.  Maybe it was silly, writing a video game in 2018 with 8 bit graphics, but Adventure was magical, and the readers of this forum who volunteered for beta-testing all agree.  The result is SO fun to play.

It’s released now, and I hope you’ll give it a try.

I know, what you mean with your thoughts about AvP. But compare Cybermorph on cartridge with Battlemorph on CD and you know, what i mean.
And i like Cybermorph very much!

In an interview i have asked Howard Scott Warshaw about his thoughts of Ray Kassar. He told me, in his own opinion Kassar had done a good job, because the Computer/Console-industry was new and there were no experience how to act or react in the best way. Kassar had used his very own experience, which made him a successful manager. Ok, he came from the soft good sector, but surely had a good reputation. I think, Steve Ross, who hired him, was not an idiot.

I find it a little ironic that one of the best games is one of the least suited to the system, all those textures and the frame rate drops. But you're right, a CD version with more space for textures and less compression would have allowed for a welcome expansion of the game's scope.

They could have used their SwordQuest IPs and updated them.

An updated Temple of Apshai would have rocked.
