  1. I'm glad it's finally out officially. Putting the intermission into the solo is genius! I was surprised that it doesn't sound much better than the version that's been floating around for the past 35 years. Oh well, still better than Buckner & Garcia.
  2. I've run across this phenomenon many times in my podcast research, I wish I could remember all the titles offhand. I agree with Ballblazer's second point, that it may be related to the lawsuit. Which may be why there's some Activision titles as well. In the case of Frogger, they were supposed to put it out in 1987 but they didn't. Frogger: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-frogger_25805.html Cakewalk: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-cakewalk_27710.html Chopper Command: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-chopper-command_27919.html Cosmic Ark: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-cosmic-ark_27915.html You get the point. The caveat here is that these haven't been dumped. Rabbit Transit from Starpath has been though. http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-rabbit-transit_11876.html It's weird.
  3. Wow, amazing finds. That Data Age binder is especially sweet. I am totally jelly.
  4. Will the Gemini joystick/paddle controller work on this console?
  5. Street Racer for me. I like the old cars, and I like the symmetrical layout. Just like the game itself.
  6. I've gotten about 600 points better on average, which is still less than 2000. I switched to real hardware, which is the way to go for me for this game. No idea if the 2600-daptor has lag, and maybe it's only noticeable in games like this. I did manage to rescue one squiggle on the 2nd screen ONCE, but that was all. I was using the 500 XJ, which doesn't do diagonal well, which I need to try out in those screens.
  7. I'm using the CX 40. I want to try the Epyx XJ 500, or whatever it is. I kept getting killed by the horizontal guys. Like I said before, I do better at game 1 where the speed increases gradually.
  8. Bleah. I finally made it to the second screen, but only once. Would there be any reason for multiple shots vertically, but not horizontally?
  9. Great scores you guys. I will have to try again on real hardware. I think my problem with the asteroids is that it starts out really fast, there's no build up time like in the first game. I suspect that if Kaboom had game variations like this, I would be terrible at them as well. But I do enjoy the game, I know there's people who don't that host a certain arcade game podcast.
  10. You guys are gluttons for punishment, holy cow. This variation made me want to stick a pencil in my eye. I didn't even make it past the first set of asteroids.
  11. I don't have any New Years food traditions, but I want to eat all of that. Whenever we go down south we like to go to the independent restaurants and cafeterias that make food like this, the food is sooooooooooo good.
  12. Just double checking if your 2600 list is current, I may have a couple.
  13. Are you okay with loose 2600 carts? How about label condition, what are you looking for there?
  14. I think it was kind of a joke involved in a lawsuit. I forget who came up with Venetian blinds, maybe Bob Whitehead? It was used in many Atari games (Chess is the one that comes to mind first, perhaps the score in Space Invaders). When the 4 Activision guys left Atari, they were advised not to take anything with them, but the Venetian blinds technique ended up in some of their games (legs in Stampede is what I remember). This may have been after the lawsuit though, I don't think there were any examples before that. It's very subtle in Stampede. When Atari sued Activision, apparently this was going to be brought up, and David Crane made the Venetian blinds Activision demo as a joke because they hadn't actually stolen any trade secrets from Atari.
  15. Nice to meet you! I am also a music guy, I love the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and Food Fight. I play those instruments you mentioned, albeit horribly. NJ pizza > Chicago pizza (though I do enjoy it, I used to walk all the way across the large mall in which I worked to go to the Chicago style pizza place). Jury's still out on hot dogs. Welcome to the forums, co-host of the Pie Factory Podcast that you didn't mention.
  16. End of December sounds good, I probably won't get through the carts I have until then.
