Mcorleonep got a reaction from Justin in Which 2600 model are you particularly fond of?
I had the original 6 switch unit. Later on a friend in the 'hood' got one of the newer 4 switch models (2 switches in the back). It was lighter than mine and seem of a cheaper/less quality build...

Mcorleonep got a reaction from socrates63 in Your Atari "firsts" memories and experiences...
My first experience with Atari is always going to my friend's down the street. He got his Atari 2600 in 1978 just after they came out. We had some JC Penny Pong knockoff device at the time. I was amazed by the color graphics and the variety of games he had. Two years later on my birthday, my mom brings home an Atari system of our own along with Space Invaders. Of course it wasn't that new to me anymore since I'd been playing it every other day or so down the street but it was still great to have in our home...

Mcorleonep got a reaction from DCG in Altered Beast is underrated
I remember playing this at a friends (still had an NES then). I thought it wasn't a bad game, just not very good pack-in game. It was pretty short and even then I thought it odd that Sega would have a game with such a morbid theme as a pack-in.

Mcorleonep got a reaction from greenween in Yars' Revenge
He also developed E.T. but the executives only game him 6 weeks to do so whereas Yar's Revenge (one of my favorites back then) took several months.

Mcorleonep got a reaction from RickR in Sears is Closing The Very First & My Hometown Kmart
The Sears where I grew up disappeared back in the 80's. It was my favorite department store growing up as we used to make our Christmas lists using the annual Wishbooks that came out. Actually they moved to the local mall up until the early 2000's (southside Chicago area). There's still a Sears store where I live now (SW Florida) and it does well since there isn't another one close by but then again this area does far better in retail than the shabby south side of Chicago...

Mcorleonep got a reaction from RickR in My Favorite Atari Arcade Game
Asteroids
Tempest
Space Duel (why was this not mentioned? The arcade version had great bass sound which is hard to duplicate in the recent home conversions even with a decent sound system)
Millipede
Star Wars (sit down version)

Mcorleonep reacted to Bakerman in Your first car
I don't have any original pictures of me and my first car any more, I don't think, but it was a 1976 Monte Carlo with a 400 big-block and Quadro-Jet 4-barrel carb. It was Canary yellow. Net picture below, just imagine that in yellow, and a guy with long, dirty blond hair and wearing a leather biker jacket with a Camel sticking out of his mouth and you have me. Of course I owned it in about '86. God, I loved that car and beat the living hell out of it street racing and doing dry pavement donuts and we (me and buddies) would hold the brakes and spin the tires on our cars to see who could do the biggest smoke show, in the high school parking lot of course, until the principal broke it up! I went through a LOT of used tires on that car, and surprisingly, never blew the motor or dropped the transmission! I did drive it through the woods once, just stoned and drunk, with a load of friends, and nearly wedged it between two trees! I made it through, but had big dents and scrapes down both sides of it after that!

Mcorleonep got a reaction from Justin in Your first car
My first car, I had to share with my older sister. It didn't work out so well. It was a 76 Olds Delta 88. I don't have a pic of it but mine (ours) was white. I fit eleven people in that car one time during high school. I loved that car. It hardly failed to start up during those frigid Chicago winters. I wouldn't mind driving one today if it weren't for the horrendous gas mileage...

Mcorleonep reacted to AtariBrian in Vacation carts
Just finished eating breakfast on our cape cod vacation and saw an interesting store (Greg's used books), figured I'd kill some time while my wife went into a shoe store. Place was very cool, other than used books they had some records, movies, board games and best of all games. Picked up these carts, all pretty rare. It's not often I find carts I dont have in the wild, especially this many. Owner was very cool also.

With E3 going on now this week, now would be the perfect time to spill the beans.

Mcorleonep got a reaction from The Professor in Caldor "Price Break!" Ad for Atari & ColecoVision - Friday, March 11, 1983
That would have been the equivalent of Zayre (or Woolco) where I grew up in the Chicago area. I miss those old stores....

Mcorleonep got a reaction from Atari Today in Video Game Series You Want To Return
Too bad about Tempest. Fortunately I have Jeff Minter's TxK game on the Vita. Disappointing they had to block it for other platforms because of lawsuits as it really is a great game.
I would like to see reboots of Demon Attack and HERO by Activision.

Mcorleonep got a reaction from Starbuck66 in The ColecoVison Flashback Megathread
This is the only flashback console I own. I came across it at the Family Dollar on sale. It definitely has issues and the emulation isn't all that great especially on the Heist; one of my favorite Colecovision games from back in the day. I was also sad that there was no, Burgertime, Ladybug or Mouse Trap all great CV games. Bar none, my favorite on here is Frenzy, a superior follow-up to Berzerk which was unavailable on any other consoles back in the 80's (or the present for that matter).

Mcorleonep got a reaction from Justin in Things Atari nailed.... and then screwed up.
How about management? Bushnell had a vision for Atari's future but after he sold Atari, he disagreed with those corporate tools from Time Warner who ultimately ran the company into the ground. Quality suffered which in part led to the crash and Atari never recovered it's former position in the industry. Remember that Apple had a similar history in the late 80s when Jobs was fired but they bounced back after he was rehired...
