Hey guys. Here is my latest video. I talk about competing companies in the home console business creating products for each other using the Coleco Expansion Module as a focus. This topic fascinates me more than any other topic when it comes to gaming in the early 1980's. Hope you enjoy!!!!

Yeah its very cool, however Im trying to figure out what application its best for.  For example, I thought It might be really good for Xevious, its not.  Mrs Pac-Man, not bad, Pitfall 2 - nope...  But today I was playing it with BallBlazers and it was perfect.  The V61 Gripstick Joystick needs its own episode in order to break down what it is, what it does and what games its good for.  Im doing research on it... you know, playing lots of games with it, "research".

In the first episode of 7800 Ave. we celebrate Howard Scott Warshaw's Birthday by playing a few rounds of Yars' Revenge.
On the show we'll play 7800 games and 2600 games because thats the beauty of the system - you can play both. Play some Atari today with your friends and family and watch out for that zorlon cannon.

That is correct, a guest will come over and we will play 7800 games.  But because the system plays 2600 as well I want to dip into those games too.  The Jag Bar episode of Warlords was a tryout for 7800 Ave.  The difference between The Jag Bar and 7800 Ave format wise is I will not have the section where we meet a guest at the bar then play,  7800 Ave will be just a guest joining me to play and getting right into the game and discussing our thoughts at the end.  Plus the set will look amazing - lots of brick walls, arcade games and neon.

Got my modded Vader back from atarilbc today, and it is totally AWESOME.  Look at the red-glowy goodness of that red LED.  The composite picture is sharp, the colors are vivid.  I LOVE IT.  Very nice work.  Thank you so much atarilbc.

As an added bonus, that joystick came via a trade with ataribrian, who did the microswitch mod on it.  It works really well, although it's kind of weird to hear clicky noises coming from a CX40!  Thank you for this joystick, it's great!

I haven't tried it.  Then again my 5200 has a decent picture so I don't mess with it.  I get more interference with the 8-bits, 2600, and 7800 consoles than my 5200.  With the NES I use the A/V outs for it.

One of the things I thought about doing is trying to restore my 800XL back to its white color.  It's sort of yellow now and I found a video about someone using just peroxide and OXY clean to whiten it.  They placed it in the sun for a few hours and it seemed to restore their system (a Famicom) back to its white color pretty well.  I'm just waiting on a warmer weather to hit.

I started a thread awhile back that was intended to share eBay wins and strategies. The first post was about picking up "broken" or "untested" consoles on the cheap and restoring them. Instead of clogging up that thread with my restorations, I thought it would be cool to have a dedicated thread here. Please share your tips and tricks and try to post before and after pictures. Failed attempts are cool too. We all need to learn!

Thanks for posting this atarilbc! Zaku is one of my absolute favorite homebrews of any platform. I'm thrilled to see a second run of 400 copies made available! This is a personal favorite, if you're even remotely into Atari Lynx I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of Zaku.

The character looks a bit like Sonic but the game plays kinda like Air Zonk. It feels like an arcade shmup of that era. Atari I/O isn't affiliated with SFT either but I love the game and they do incredible work. Happy to get the word out.

Zaku by Super Fighter Team is one of the best games available on the Lynx.  It has great gameplay and amazing production for a "homebrew" and outshines most retail releases.  The problem is that only 600 copies were produced and they've been sold out for a couple of years.  This means that the only way to play Zaku has been to pay eBay scalper prices. The Lynx players who missed out around the globe let out a cry.  Fortunately, Super Fighter Team answered their call.  Today, they announced that they are going to do a second run of 400 copies of Zaku.  The price is $58 shipped in the U.S., $65 worldwide.  All of the details are here:   http://www.zaku-lynx.com/purchase.htm

I am not at all affiliated with SFT.  I just think that Zaku is an AMAZING game and want to get the word out.  If you're into Lynx, you owe it to yourself to grab a copy.  Check out this youtube video (not mine) and judge for yourself.

Was AVP running in a different graphics mode or with an added chip? To me AVP looks better than most stuff on 16-bit consoles short of FX chip games. Seems like it would be another story where the game required an extra chip that Jack Tramiel wouldn't have wanted to pay for.

Also, Carl Williams did post honestly about Coleco Chameleon and his article on AVP was ok but could have done w/ out the immature pot-shots at Atari. Seems like the past 10 years (since social media?) it's been non stop in articles covering Atari. Some people are fascinated by failure I guess.

FYI - The Turbo Express launched here for at least $249.99 in 1991 (or $440 in today's dollar) Some reports say it actually launched at $299.99 (Or $530 today) while other say it launched at 249, raised to 299 and they reduced again to 249. This was the Neo Geo of portables, another system that is highly regarded, but probably sold less units than the Lynx.

And it seems that being a fan of Atari comes with a lot of baggage. Whether it be the archaic look of 2600 games, ET, the 5200 joysticks, the lack of awareness of the 7800, the flip flop sized Lynx or the "utter failure" Jaguar.

Nintendo on the other hand seems to get a lot of the benefit of the doubt despite the poor design of the NES (blinking screen), the hard ot see green and black Game Boy screen, the slowness of the SNES on sport games, the fog of the N64 and the lack of 3rd party support and DVD playback of the Gamecube.

By the way, I like both Nintendo and Atari. I'm just trying to show how you can be positive or negative of just about any system.

Those are both really good points. TurboGrafx-16 in general lost out to Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, yet people still avidly collect TG-16 games and speak of it fondly.

Why is it no discussion can be had about Atari without first apologizing and having to sit through buzzwords like "dismal failure", "worst game ever" and talk of E.T. causing the collapse of the industry? Why must everything revel in negativity and the tragic side of something that has brought so many of us so much happiness throughout our lives? We're not going to do that here.
