I will be honest. Season 3 of Star Trek Picard feels more like the Star Trek everyone is used to and enjoy. The first 4 episodes are more like an ongoing movie or the DS9 Multi-part story arc than what we saw in the first two seasons of the show or Star Trek Discovery.

If anybody wants to provide feedback or make on the game,  see something improved. Feel free to post it here. Even if it appears negative, I am open and responsive. I do want to make it into a game that many people can enjoy.

I am glad we were finally able to put this game out. We had some issues compiling with the latest version of 7800 Basic. It affected some minor stuff like the temp of the music.
This version is different from the 8-bit/5200 in that it has more texture patterns, color schemes, types of animals. Uses a different Fruit for each level. There is an intermission screen between each level with a short musical tune.
I finally got around to making Animal Keeper in 2019 for the 8-bit and 5200, after about a two-year delay. It was suggested that I make this game by members that other Atari forum, who wanted ZooKeeper to be ported to the Atari 8-bit. I was backing away from making exact clones. Made changes to the graphic layout to take advantage GTIA/Antic graphics. That is why it has a brick background, changing color schemes for each level. I change the animals, added a few more, and even more for the Atari 7800 version. So we did make this game more unique and of our own design.

I am working on that. I want to get some smaller games done for the 7800 before tackling bigger games like Tempest and Secretum Labyrinth.

This is one game I have been working on with Video61 and others for awhile. We have been busy beta testing this game and hope to get it out soon. I provided some extra tools to my internal team to help accelerate the testing process. We do want to keep things as a surprise to our customers and the solution to solve puzzles inside the game needs to remain secret. I did recently looked a minor sound gap issue that some people made a big deal about a few years ago. Most people don't pay much attention it to. It was when the main character moved from screen to screen, some interrupts needed to be disabled and sound was silenced for about 3 to 4 TV frames. Less than 1/20th second. There were claims that it troubled anyone who plays it. It could crash the game. Other ridiculous claims were made. I would like nothing more to jam it back into their face. The latest version eliminates this issue. I should remind everyone that YouTube work-in-progress videos are not final game versions. The fix was not using "JSR RMT_SILENCE" during the screen redraw. I discovered this caused RMT_PLAY to delay one TV frame before sound can be heard again. Instead I just writes 0 to the sound registers, so next RMT PLAY immediately generates sounds. I also observered that with video encoding software and uploading to YouTube, additional gaps may appear in the audio stream. I assume it is happening to keep the A-V in sync.

"Secretum Labyrinth Dark Castles" is a Role Playing Game for the Atari 8-bit, using my Adventure Role Playing Game programming that I started developing around 2011.   I have been optimizing the programming for drawing each screen to open up more room in the RAM to allow more stuff to happen. This game will feature stuff like currency and markets, spells, items to get past points in the game, and many other things. New music is being composed. A new and different interactive story is being worked on. The text you see in the video is of a real early draft. We need to keep this part a secret because there is some proprietary information in there that may be under copyright. We will reveal the final draft when the cartridge is ready.

This may be the final work in Progress video for Delta Space Arena for Atari 7800. Released February 16, 2023. As a guideline, Video61 and team usually reviews the videos clips before I mark them for public review. Showing various levels and different features.

I have been looking alternatives of how things look on screen during game play.
One ideal is to replace the HP: indicator just to the right of EP: with a bar across the top of the screen, showing hit points or health. I could still have HP: in the character detail display (Press C on keyboard during game)
I have looked into making the walls look 3D, but my early efforts did not provide promising results. I am holding back on doing this because It would be a major overhaul of the game and will take a lot of time.

peteym5 got a reaction from Jinroh in VBXE - Is this upgrade for you?
I have considered porting some of my prior games over to VBXE, but there are a few obstacles that had been prohibiting the idea from going forward. First thing, is the limited and much smaller market than the whole Atari 8-bit community that does not make it worthwhile to make VBXE cartridge games. The second obstacle is that very few people have these, that it is difficult to find people trusted by myself and Video61 to beta test any games modified to use it. This was discussed a few years ago on another that Atari place and did volunteer to help test it. When I did have a few test Tempest Elite, It did not take long for me to see that one of them was passing along copies. So I had to cut off beta testing from anyone that refuses to submit information about themselves beyond just a screen name. Some of them when I told them that they need to get in contact with Video 61, they freaked out, did not hear from them until later they made public posts over there just to bully about me not trusting people. I have to allow free copies because I am there seeking help from others. Like Hello, this was not unexpected from a place full of untrustworthy people that allow bullying, harassment, and uncivilized behavior.
If people want to see more VBXE ported games, and have a nice cartridge, they will need to post about it, tell myself and Video61 if they want it. I know what VBXE is capable of. I am really surprised there have not been many games ported to take advantage of better graphics.

CrossBow, you are in the United States, Oklahoma, correct? I am going to ask you to email us at Atarisales, or send me a private message before going forward with anything.
For starters, I am considering VBXE versions of a few games like Delta Space Arena and Bug Invade. More games could be ported depending on how everything works out. It will be awhile before I be able to do anything as I am busy with finishing up another Atari 8-bit game. I already sent out a few emails to see if another person can help me beta test VBXE programs and to see how games will be distributed.

Thankyou for discussing the idea of doing some VBXE programs. However, as expected, my associates have elected not to be involved with marketing VBXE. This is due to the small number of people out there with modified Atari 8-Bit systems. I am still open to making some Fast Basic sample programs with assembly routines that manipulate VBXE graphics. I need to look to see if someone already programmed something.

So after dinner while I let the pans soak I  gave venture 7800 a go.  Needless to say my pans are soaked and untouched a few hours later. If you like Venture at all, then I think this is worth your money.
    UPDATES
Cartridge: when I got home a bit of the top label was lifting off the cartridge. It's really no big deal but I just thought I'd mention it. I patted it back down and it seems fine.
Gameplay: The first game mode is arcade and it plays like the 2600 version, with 3 maps and 12 rooms I think. All the enemies look good and the challenge increases as you clear the maps and loop through them. Overall a fun mode, great for purists, but I recommend...
XL XE challenger mode!  Here they've added a new map with I believe 4 more rooms for a total of 4 maps and 16 rooms. There are some challenging trap rooms along with a reaper room that varies gameplay and increases the challenge greatly. A fantastic addition and would be my recommended mode except there's...
7800 Challenger with yet another map and 4 more rooms for a total of 5 maps and 20 rooms!  And not only do the enemies become faster and more numerous in the challenger modes, but you'll also encounter booby traps in the monster rooms!
The new monster rooms add some nice challenge, force new strategy, and help keep the gameplay more varied than in say, the 2600 version.  You can also choose between directional shooting where you can freely move and shoot, and hold and shoot, where for as long as your facing a direction with the fire button held down you continuously shoot in that direction. Once you let off the fire button you can spin and shoot in a different direction.
So is there any negatives in gameplay?  Well I have one complaint and one opinion that I'll share at the end here. In some rooms, and it seems to happen more often in the newly added rooms, you start almost directly on an enemy. If it moves slightly towards you then you lose a life immediately.  This feels cheap and takes away from what is otherwise a fantastic game.  It also seems to happen more and more on later loops. I wish the placement would've been adjusted a bit in those scenarios.
My other observation is that, while I think the monster sprites in the added 7800 mode look the best, the map just doesn't compare to the one added in the XL XE challenger mode.  I think that map is top tier and maybe even better than the originals, where the new 7800 map feels like it's less dynamic in comparison. But that's just an opinion.
Well that's all I have for first impressions. My next post about venture will be a review. If your on the fence about venture 7800, I'm here to tell you, GET IT!  Yes, it's damn good I think!
Let me know what you all think if you've tried this one!  Thanks guys. Oh and my pans are still soaking, I better get to those.

peteym5 reacted to 7800 Pro Gamer in Venture Atari 7800 First Impressions
I got my copy of Venture in the mail and thought I would give my first impressions for anybody on the fence about purchasing it.  Again, I was only able to spend about an hour and a half with it last night, but I thought it would be nice to start a discussion on this new homebrew.
Packaging: it came well packaged in a large box with plenty of packing materials. The instructions are a single laminated sheet and you get the cartridge in a white half size style box with the art and screenshots attached to the front and back respectively.  I like the fonts and the color of blue used on the cartridge and packaging, but I do wish the manual could be stored in the box with the game. You could do it, but your going to crease and ruin the laminated sheet. But overall the packaging and shipping experience is good.
Cartridge: I like the labels and the cartridge seem to be in the style of ataris 7800 and 2600 games. You have a top label with the name of the game and the front label with the box art and relevant information. I really like the design and it feels like a good quality product similar to any "official" release from the 80s.
Gameplay: I played the 2600 game in preparation and this is a vast improvement. You have 3 game modes (arcade and 2 challenger modes), a choice of control styles and number of players. The graphics are true to venture and while I don't think anybody would call them revolutionary,  they do look good!  The sound effects are punchy and have impact, and I like the tunes that plays.
The gameplay feel much tighter than the 2600 version and I see little reason to go back to that one after trying this one. I will post a full review in a week or two but I'll continue to put my thoughts here until then. I'll post more in depth thoughts about gameplay tonight after work as I've only tried one mode so far.  If you have any questions please ask.
Oh and thank you to everybody at video61 for putting this game out!
