  1. Yeah, so called "Atari" today are nothing more than litigation hungry holders of trademark / IP who just want to try and grab every bit profit they can. Also, they want to keep reselling the same crap over and over to the Atari faithful. The AtariVCS has yet to have a single unit reach an actual backers hands, the only people who have claimed to receive any units seem to be "friends" or family (IE: people connected) to the AtariVCS team, I remain very skeptical an actual backer will ever receive a unit, even if they DO it is nothing worth the price and certainly brings nothing new to the table but of course people want one because it has a woodgrain finish and an Atari logo on it. They have proven to be very heavy handed against anyone using the Atari name even though such projects are what keep interest and the legacy in mind and alive. They wont release a 2600 compatible with HDMI for $50 or under because they are not capable of doing so, so instead they want to sue a company that has done exactly that 🙄 They consider themselves as gatekeepers of the Atari brand but sadly it seems every move and decision they make just deteriorate the Atari brand and legacy more and more, SHAME. You damn well know even if they worked with HYPERKIN to produce the Retron77 they would have been $150 USD right from the get go.
  2. Lot's of retro goodness and wonderfully displayed as well. 😎
  3. Interesting article. THE CREATION OF MISSILE COMMAND AND THE HAUNTING OF ITS CREATOR, DAVE THEURER By Alex Rubens on August 15, 2013 at 12:00pm https://www.polygon.com/features/2013/8/15/4528228/missile-command-dave-theurer?fbclid=IwAR3zZIL3eGy2ic8Ryyz1C2OV_vQxF8aqyqRYEdfOwFLOtXObm32bsZk8Z9U
  4. RIP - BUT really cannot be sad in this case, a well deserved rest for a long, long life! Olivia de Havilland, a two-time Oscar winner and for decades the last surviving star of "Gone With the Wind," has died at age of 104, her publicist Lisa Goldberg told CNN.https://www.ctvnews.ca/entertainment/olivia-de-havilland-star-of-gone-with-the-wind-dies-at-104-1.5039658

  5. Awesome NES game FROM BELOW 😎 That's right, came across this and thought I would share. Not just in the classic 8-bit NES style but in fact actually available to play online in a browser based NES emulator or even better download the latest ROM file direct from the authour to play in an emulator or even on actual NES compatible hardware using Flashcart / Everdrive etc. https://mhughson.itch.io/from-below A fun and impressive game! Check out this screen shot as well an excerpt of the description. Link to itchio . com for more info and ROM downloads. The Kraken cometh... From the deepest trenches of the ocean, the Kraken has come to lay waste to your city! The archers have slung every arrow. The burning tar has run dry. Every piece of military weaponry has been dispatch. And yet... the Kraken moves forward, climbing the towering walls of your seaside fortress. With no ammunition left, the city itself moves from a barricade, to a weapon! The stones of the walls are broken off, and hurdled down at hideous creature. And it just might be enough to slow it down till morning, when surely help will arrive... --- Hi! I am working on my first Homebrew NES game, FROM BELOW! It a falling block puzzle game featuring: Soft Drops Hard Drops Wall Kicks T-Spins Lock Delay 3 modes of play: Kraken Battle Mode The signature mode of FROM BELOW. Battle the Kraken by clear lines across the onslaught of attacking Kraken Tentacles. The Tentacles push more blocks onto the screen every few seconds, forcing to act quickly, and strategize on an every changing board. nes_tetris_july_03_gameplay_edit.gif.f612edbacd3915eafbfc0e0e5735b0f8.gif Classic Mode The classic block falling mechanics you know and love without any new gimicks. Modernize for 2020, with Hard Drops, Lock Delay, and more, making this (hopefully) the best feeling puzzle game on the NES! Turn Based Kraken Battle Mode Similar to "Kraken Battle Mode", but instead of the Kraken attacking every few seconds, it advances its tentacle every time you drop a piece. Make every move count, as this move favors slow, deliberate play! https://mhughson.itch.io/from-below
  6. Oh man R.O.B. would have been awesome! Oh I miss not having that, not so much to USE IT but to just look it it, so nostalgic ! 🤖
  7. Found many of my favorites like TOM SERVO from Mystery Science Theater 3000. So many popular and less known ROBOTS, posted elsewhere but I had to share this higher resolution version. WHO'S YOUR FAVORITE?
  8. 😛 Well I will post one more, I tried but I guess not many will put themselves out there or laugh at themselves (THANKS to few who participated), that's cool, I tried and in that same spirit this next post shows I am totally willing to be laughed at. I will leave it at that, this thread can just die off or whatever. ---- BUT FIRST A MESSAGE ----- NO RAT(S) WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS 30+ YEAR OLD IMAGE, THOUGH THEY MAY HAVE ENDURED SOME MOISTURE 😉 😜 ME back in my teens, yep that is real, my pet RAT JD, if I say he did not bite me on occasion I would be lying, if I said I did not deserve it.....I would also be lying....SIDE NOTE, an old iPhone 4 makes an awesome fast scanner for old photos 😛😆 Last word, besides silly shenanigans like this they my rats (JD and MARTY, MARTY WAS ALL WHITE) were played with a lot, feed pizza or whatever I was snacking on etc. They were fun. 😎 they fact I could even DO this was due to their, perhaps misplaced TRUST.
  9. 🤯😥RIP Kelly Preston - Kelly Preston, actor and wife of John Travolta, dead at 57 -

  10. It DID occur to me lack of participation may be down to many not having photos / Polaroids in digital format available for posting and no easily accessible scanner to consider doing so and with that in mind just a thought........ These days for the most part one could likely use a tablet or phone camera as these are so common to just take a picture of an original photo or Polaroid, MY image I started with was actually just taken with an older tablet camera of a Polaroid. IF any of you have a photo in mind consider that method, just be wary of reflective light and FOCUS as much as possible, I think you might be surprised how easily this can be done. I am considering doing some more of my own this way 😛
  11. Dug this up just now and thought this might make for something different. Post a photo / picture / image that you are in showing something silly, fun, retro etc. I'll kick off with this one - Here's me at 16 getting a promo Polaroid picture before seeing JAWS. Honestly, I love this shot and there is as far as I am concerned only one embarrassing thing about it, IT WAS FOR JAWS 3 ! 😂🙄
  12. Happy Canada Day EH! To all my Canadian brothers and sisters ! 🍁🍻
  13. This is a hard one, as an man who brought so much great entertainment in life. RIP CARL REINER https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/carl-reiner-dies-1.5632537

  14. Director Joel Schumacher, known for Lost Boys, St. Elmo's Fire and Batman films, dead at 80

  15. Playing MAME on desktop and thinking "WHY THE HELL DON'T I DO THIS MORE OFTEN?" 😀😎

    1. RickR

Exactly.  It's my thought every time I think about doing another XBOX/PS2/Wii mod or creating a new Raspberry Pi build.  The desktop PC version is the easiest way to get your emulation fix.

I go back to it every so often, it is a funny reminder that even though I was pretty much a videogame console player that there are some major differences when compared to original arcade versions. I mean pretty much from NES onward (well even before that Colecovision) it felt like having the "arcade" at home but then you load up MAME and suddenly it's like a slap in the face in comparison, especially with a lot of NES ports, or EVEN Sega Genesis you realize damn the arcade game had even bigger sprites and more frenzied action. I mean sure the Arcade game dynamic sometimes would not work as well and was changed to suit a home console but in some cases it was definitely changes due to limitations. I was playing some of the Golden Axe sequels and was surprised how different it felt, sometimes it is just a different color palette but it is definitely nice to go back and experience versions closer to the Arcade.
  16. 😔 Rip brilliant actor Ian Holm. He was 88.image.jpeg.7a1c6da8e1bbf87b2a9d0ef86f784858.jpeg

  17. RIP -

Denny O’Neil, ‘Batman’ writer and comic book legend, dead at 81

RIP - 😢 Longtime comic book writer and editor Denny O’Neil died Thursday at home of natural causes, Games Radar reports. He was 81.

Best known for his work writing DC Comics’ “Batman” and editing Batman titles from 1986 to 2000, O’Neil also worked at Marvel Comics on such series as “Spider-Man” and “Iron Man.” Over the course of his more-than-four-decades-long career in the industry, he was involved in the naming of the character Optimus Prime and in leading Batman back to a darker narrative. 19. RIP - 😢cool Canadian Denise Denise Cronenberg. We’ve learned the sad news this week that Denise Cronenberg, the sister of David Cronenberg, passed away at the age of 81 last month at Joseph Brant Hospital in Ontario, Canada.
Award-winning artist Denise Cronenberg was the costume designer on several of her little brother’s films beginning with The Fly in 1986. Denise brought her style to most of David’s movies in the years that followed, including Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch, M. Butterfly, Crash, eXistenZ, Spider, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, Cosmopolis and Maps to the Stars.
Even prior to The Fly, Denise Cronenberg was credited as “wardrobe trainee” on Videodrome and “wardrobe mistress” on The Dead Zone, both films directed by David Cronenberg.
Cronenberg’s costume design credits also include Bless the Child, Dracula 2000, Dawn of the Dead (2004), Dead Silence, Shoot ‘Em Up, The Incredible Hulk and Resident Evil: Afterlife.

  20. I had just made a topic about the trailer when I noticed this thread so I will simply paste my reaction. Happy for actor Alex Winter, nice Keanu remembers the movie that helped launch his career, yes he did other things before but let's face it average person thinks of Bill & Ted. PARTY ON DUDES ! 🎸🥳
  21. YES it's big and crazy but I loved that about it 😆 Mine is an original 4-port which I love but I believe it had the mod done to work with those couple games that caused issues if memory serves. It's in great condition, I immediately purchased a BEST ELECTRONICS refurbished controller. Despite all the complaints of the original controller I get it, for certain games though it seems decent, not so much for others. I REALLY need to get around to cleaning my 5200 trakball one day as it did not seem to work great with the little testing I did. I have a Atarimax flashcart (USB type) but I do have several original carts. I think I got a nice full package deal some years back I could not resist, I did purposely choose the original 4 port, my only experience with it back in the day is a friends dad had one but NO ONE WAS ALLOWED TO PLAY IT 😛 I also have the 2600 adapter, 2 actually, one stock and one that has been modded to work either connected to the 5200 OR as a standalone 2600 console, I really hope to get around to do some up to date videos on it all again someday, here is a couple of my old videos on it: Here I talk about getting a 5200 soon! This was, my god...9 years ago! First hook up and testing of the 5200 and some games ! My nice refurbished 5200 controller unboxing from BEST ELECTRONICS. Atarimax 5200 multicart Testing the ,multicart, refurbished controller and even a PC joystick adapter !
  22. RIP - Kurt Thomas, Champion Gymnast and Star of ‘Gymkata,’ Dies at 64.
