  1. Latest acquisition:  A boxed Colecovision!  It works just fine after a little cleanup, although one of the controllers has a non-functioning keypad.

Absolutely. So many greats, Venture, Ladybug, MouseTrap ! And though I own a Atarimax cart (sadly the original USB type) I gave away most of my original carts but I could not part with one loose cart that was in amazing shape as well my all time favorite Mr. Do!

Had a few Colecovisions over the years, I have an attachment to it as it was my first GOOD Christmas let's just say my uncle bought me a Colecovision with several games that year. Though it would be old tough hard times I acquired another in my teens again just to be pawned off during struggles. Happily I still own TWO consoles today along with a multicart and several accessories among my collection. Will always have a special place in my heart and head though, still to this day my favorite game on it is Mr. Do! and I just love certain games on it even if they are not considered the best versions on any platform. Not to mention some great arcade titles you rarely see elsewhere like FRENZY. Congrats on an awesome pick up!

  3. Playing MAME on desktop and thinking "WHY THE HELL DON'T I DO THIS MORE OFTEN?" 😀😎

I go back to it every so often, it is a funny reminder that even though I was pretty much a videogame console player that there are some major differences when compared to original arcade versions. I mean pretty much from NES onward (well even before that Colecovision) it felt like having the "arcade" at home but then you load up MAME and suddenly it's like a slap in the face in comparison, especially with a lot of NES ports, or EVEN Sega Genesis you realize damn the arcade game had even bigger sprites and more frenzied action. I mean sure the Arcade game dynamic sometimes would not work as well and was changed to suit a home console but in some cases it was definitely changes due to limitations. I was playing some of the Golden Axe sequels and was surprised how different it felt, sometimes it is just a different color palette but it is definitely nice to go back and experience versions closer to the Arcade.

Yes! I LOVE that feeling, the SONY VAIO laptop I found, it is ancient and slow but beautiful, the only thing was, no PSU sitting in the electronics bin with it, no problem, I had one that I snagged ages ago, the exact spec model, I was pretty damn happy about that!

I think I will always keep 1 VCR, I don't know, I have this worry for some reason I will want to record on it specifically to create something with that VCR effect, though I plan to get rid of most tapes, which seems difficult here for some reason, I don't want to pay and I don't want to end up in landfill, not sure allowed to throw in garbage? Nobody seems to want to accept used recording tapes 😜But anyway, as I was saying, yeah keep one VCR and oddly I have a few multi-packs of UNUSED and SEALED Fuji and Maxwell tapes because they were left downstairs (we have an "area" downstairs where fellow residents just leave things they think others might want) so if I DO want to record something on VHS I have nice unused tapes. I am always torn letting things go but also can never resist items that meet two criteria 1. Free 2. New.

Just another measure to reserve space. To be clear the content was all backed up to DVD-r disc years ago and the original tapes been sitting collecting dust ever since. I will never pull out the VCR again just to watch them.

  8. RE: N64 😎 I am a huge Resident Evil games fan so of course even though my first experience of it was on Playstation I simply HAD to own a original N64 cart as shown. It's just loose cart and I have not played it in years (Hope it still saves?) but it is one of only a handful of original N64 carts I still own as I use my Everdrive mostly. Still, look forward to trying it out again soon, what they achieved on a N64 cart was impressive. 😍

😎😉Now, I typically use my Everdrive but I have a pretty small but ok collection of original carts. I think I got most in a lot some time back, Ogre Battle 64 was sent to me from a fellow youtuber who said it was a good one. I would definitely play most of these happily though Quest 64 I have heard is not so great? Also, I am not much of a Pokemon fan in any capacity but I think it requires a separate accessory pak which I have but it is missing the Mic that plugs into it. Anyone know if I can plug any mic with a plug that fits? Maybe the mic from my Dreamcast vmu for playing Seaman? That would be a funny alternative. Of course Shadows of the Empire, Resident Evil 2 and Goldeneye are my favorites, of the rest does anyone have a favorite or even one you cannot stand? Thanks.image.jpeg.3fadf1188e2d9ccdac5568e9312c9467.jpeg

Oh, we watch a variety, many are UK based, detective shows, things like that. I think one is based in Finland called Arctic Circle (aka Ivalo) It is mostly English with subtitles when needed.  - summary "Arctic Circle (aka Ivalo) is set in the unforgiving polar region, amidst the icy landscapes of Finnish Lapland. After Nina Kautsalo, a Finnish police officer, finds a dying prostitute in an old cabin in the wilderness, the ensuing criminal investigation takes a surprise twist when a deadly virus is discovered in the prostitute's blood. However, when Thomas Lorenz, a German virologist, travels to Lapland to investigate the virus, he and Nina suddenly find themselves in the middle of an exceedingly unusual criminal investigation."  - HONESTLY most of the shows and series, even various talk shows and comedy specials etc, I would say the majority of what we watch are based outside of USA / Hollywood etc.

Nordic Noir is quite interesting as well 😎 Every so often a new "network" or american show or series catches our eye, we cannot resist checking it out but usually we are reminded how drawn out and overly dramatic that stuff is especially once you have experienced shows outside of Hollywood / USA. Typically american series, say a TV crime drama for example that run 23 episodes in a season gets like half that in a UK series, just needlessly drawn out. That said, we still watch specific Hollywood films and even more specific TV series and shows, there is so much variety of what to watch now that we tend to be pickier than ever because there is always a backlog of shows. We STREAM a LOT as well, off various, let's just say hosting sites that one would be wise to use Ad Blockers on 😛 Not a problem 🦜🏴‍☠️For some time we have a nice setup, the main desktop GPU hooked up to the main desktop monitor as well our SHARP 43' 4k Roku TV, for streaming full screen, even Melissa has gotten into Youtube big time, it is AMAZING the content you can find from those foreign shows I mentioned to stuff she watches for her gardening tips to highlights of talent shows etc.

Endless content. There is always something playing / streaming on the big TV, often I am half watching whatever she is watching while simultaneously I am multitasking sitting in front of the desktop monitor with a earbud on one ear as I also still browsing forums, Facebook and sites 😆There are very few shows where I will "unplug" and give it my full undecided attention. So much to watch and so little time I have even found myself dropping shows and series I had been watching religiously for years because again, it's just the same thing over and over and over. Instead, enjoy checking out new shows and series I'd have never considered or even known about before stumbling onto streaming and hosting sites. Sometimes it can be tricky finding roper subtitles for a show that looks promising but the majority of the time, mostly because I am a persistent and stubborn SOB I find it. Then on top of all that, I have a folder full of movies ready to pick from whenever we want a break from shows. IT IS AMAZING how much our habits and viewing has changed even in the past 10 years. Back in the day I had a library of VHS, THAN DVD's and skipped the whole BluRay going straight to streaming, DOWNLOADING - AHEM - and now everything is viewed either off a streaming site or off the hard drive and I still have literally binders of movies / tv shows on DVD copies I will likely dispose of at some point, never envisioned that.

  13. Just so you guys don't think I'm dead (because of no posts lately) -- although I'm sure @MaximumRD would respectfully report on it if I was, there's a new project I've been working on.  Restoration of a 2003 Subaru.  It's got a water leak (which makes it smell bad), and needs some engine work.  But I'm having FUN with it.  My father was an auto mechanic.  It feels good to get the hands dirty.

AND...I got a NEW JOB!  I start next week.  Should be lower stress.  I hope.

This is the way, especially with Nintendo items sadly. I wouldn't either, of course I never bothered with one with all the emulation options, if I DID I would have modded it to load the extra ROMS etc. That's neither here nor there though.

  16. Another CRT for me.  This one came for free via the Facebook marketplace.  It's a 9" Sears.  Manufactured July 87.  It has both RF and composite inputs.  The tube is very flat, but not a Trinitron (I don't think).  This one may be my favorite one yet, as the picture quality is really good.

Sweet! Can't beat FREE ! We don't have the room so I don't take in CRT's anymore but I am currently finally using a nice 14 or 15' CRT for the bulk of gaming in a little "retro corner" I set up, it also has composite and RF / coaxial input. I probably SHOULD have put the 20' Sharp CRT that is RF/Coaxial only since it is so heavy and takes up so much space BUT I just could not bring myself to do it, while there is no room to really set it up I am considering literally playing / using it as it sits in my closet ! Working CRT's here are becoming a rarity and though no longer wanted for me, having so many pre-NES consoles I fear not having access to any one day.

Not about room, well not just about room, it just turned out that way while I was still actively collecting, at this point I could say the same about many consoles / handhelds / computers. 😉When I still HAD a CD32 it was because of my love for Commodore /Amiga, CD-i & 3DO because I happened upon great deals and I was curious since I never had much exposure to them. I never came upon a Jaguar let alone a good deal on one while I was actively collecting so at this point with no funds left for my hobby while out of space long ago (lately I am contributing more to our electronics recycling bin 😜) it just seems so unlikely, on top of the fact Jag stuff seems to go for a premium now, the few games I might be interested in just don't warrant it. To be clear, I am not "hating" on the Jag, I just literally come to terms with he fact I will likely never own one and I have accepted that, which is all I was trying to convey with my original comment 🍺

RickR to be clear, I was not being a smart ass (I certainly can be 😜) but yeah, my console since receiving it has what can only be described as a weird plastic "toxic" or "chemical" odor, like turpentine or a fresh black marker or something 😆something, and I mean STRONG, which seems to come from the paint or plastic itself (I have a RED model as well) consider I have a poor sense of smell but I noticed it immediately but assumed it would dissipate over time but to my surprise to this day it has barely subsided. I have seen others mention the exact same thing so not just me, I suspect a certain percentage that came off the assembly line may of had this issue that was later resolved.
