  1.  I cannot believe it, just after my video the other day and I said I never find anything good in electronic recycling during holidays? Today I found a laptop! Guess someone got a new one for Christmas, in take, great condition, Silver 14 or 15' HP Pavilion! Of course could not log in, don't know specs yet but it came with WINDOWS 8 so already better than the old HP Pavilion I was playing with Linux. Will make a great secondary laptop. Looked it up and running recovery mode on it NOW.

That's incredible. Why would somebody just throw that out? You know that might be good just for doing MAME and other stuff.

Considering the timing I suspect someone got a nice new powerful laptop for Xmas 😛 Ah well, fine by me, they literally sat it gently on top with the power supply right beside it. Guess they figured nobody could log in anyway but hey in the wrong hands....fortunately for them instead of bothering to access the hard drive by various methods to bypass the login password or hook up to an externally to look at the files, I just looked up how to access HP RECOVERY and after setting it to original stock install of WIn 8 since it is a valid license I was able to update free to Win 10. Not the fastest CPU but it is still better than the previous old HP laptop I found a few years back (I use that with Linux MINT). There are a lot of older retirees here as well so who knows? Maybe someone bought gramps a new laptop and he just placed the old one in the bin. I figure better I got it than someone else or having it actually end up at the recycle depot 😛

Let's see.  AMD architecture, Radeon GPU, and 4 GB of RAM?  That sounds like a basic gaming laptop setup.  Would be perfect for some Steam games and definitely MAME.  Amazing what you find in that recycle bin.  Just goes to show you that good things come to those that wait.

  2. MERRY CHRISTMAS to the AtariI/O gang !
  3. Just thought I would take a moment before things get a little to busy, as Christmas day rapidly approaches just wanted to see who might respond and if so what exactly are your plans from this point up to New Years Eve? Just curious. We, meaning me and my wife Melissa are ordering Indian Food take out tonight and tomorrow for Christmas Dinner we are going to The Oak & Crue for a special Christmas Eve Dinner we have reserved. We have no children or family visiting so pretty much a overall quiet time for us. We watch Christmas movies and even branched out to a Christmas Anime this year we both enjoyed (Tokyo GodFathers, not specifically Christmas but it turned out to be a heart warming story that took place during the season) and some UK shows doing their Christmas episodes. We previously went and seen The Nut Cracker at our community theater (first time for each of us) and a couple nights ago a 2 man show called O Christmas Tea : A British Comedy, it was wacky and out there but funny and entertaining. Lastly, we will go to a brunch witch is amazing at The El Dorado in town Jan 2nd to celebrate the New Year. So that's us. ANYWAY MERRY CHRISTMAS to all here and all the best in 2019.

So sad to see this. I had no idea she was 75. I thought she was a bit younger, a contemporary of Ron Howard.

  5. Quick video heading out to dinner and to see the Globetrotters Live. XMas condo, heading out for dinner & Globetrotters.
  6. Agree with everything touched on thus far. I cannot add much as I've little experience with it, I've no excuse as a generous person did send me Star Raiders with a new looking touch pad that I've yet to try but I don't know why accessories like that always excited me. I was not fortunate enough to experience many back in the day but I agree seemed very cool and so much more could have been done, I think it is yet another example of just how innovative early Atari was, it was not until much later I would learn just how many patents and technology Atari was dabbling in, all industries including medical fields, Atari just seemed HUGE. This may of been the same thing that would hurt them later when things started cooling off, perhaps in some ways they over extended themselves? I am sure Justin has much more insight in such matters but they seemed to be in everything including hologram technologies, portable computing etc, I think many modern technologies have Atari to thank in pioneering so much even if not everything was a success I think it open doors and proved concepts. Well, I hope to use the Touch Pad with Star Raiders at some point. For the longest time and even still a little bit I was confused on the differences between regular paddles for Pong or Warlords and the driving paddles? If someone could clarify the differences that would be great. Even 3rd party companies that created add ons or peripherals that added new features or different ways to control things always looked cool and exciting but again there never seemed to be much continued support outside a game or two. Cool thread JUSTIN.
  7. You know it saddens me that SEGA has never matched the quality / quantity / fun that they generated back in the 8-16 bit era. 😐

I might be interested in purchasing or trading for one of those Dreamcasts if you ever consider letting one go. I bought one the day they came out but let it go many years ago. It's one of the few systems I don't currently have. I was living those VMU Dreams in the late '90s.

I love Dreamcast. Sadly mine is starting to get finicky about reading discs. It won't play half my games anymore.

The only Sega hardware I felt was a waste was the Sega CD and 32X add-ons.  Sonic CD was the only Sega CD game I could find in my area worth anything and Star Wars was fun on the 32X.  I never found any of the other games for these that were worth the purchase price.  Well I did find Sol-Fease on the Sega CD which was a fun shooter and had the six pack on CD as well but nothing spectacular.

Saturn I enjoyed with Daytona, Virtua Cop, Sonic Blast, WipeOut, Tomb Raider, D, Darius, and The Horde.  My only wish is that it could have got the same third party games that PlayStation got.  It might have too if Sega didn't shoot themselves in the foot releasing the system too early.

Dreamcast I absolutely love!  It was a game changer, underappreciated, undervalued, hardware.  It set standards and started the whole online gaming aspect.  I got a PS2 only after Sega left the hardware part of gaming.  And that was only to get Gran Turismo 3 A Spec.  I supported Dreamcast spiritually.  I wanted it to succeed.  It must have if Sega couldn't keep up with the demands and pre orders.

  8. Loving the new site the more I use it. In my video game art thread I noticed how easy it is to upload multiple images /attachments now. Starting to really see the benefits! Great work JUSTIN and all involved! Atari. io is better than ever! 🍻😘

THANK YOU ROB!! That means so much coming from you. We're very fortunate to have you as part of the forums. I'm glad you like it! We're all averse to change in some way. I think the more you get used to the new site though the more you'll love it. Uploading is better, personal profiles are really cool, member blogs look awesome, and the "Topics" box on the top right shows shows topics with new unread content, not just "new" topics. This feels like a big leap ahead! 🕹️

THANK YOU!! I hope it never stops impressing you. It really has turned out to be a great site. Just takes a little getting used to.

  9. Let's try this. Post video-game related artwork or images. NOTHING "REAL LIFE" and no "Cosplay". Just video game related images that you have created or have seen and would like to share, as long as it is video games related, any genre, retro, classic or modern. Any format fine paintings / sketches / digital / rendered etc. Tributes, mash-ups or parodies, re-imaginings whatever. Of course all should be within site rules of etiquette and in the spirit of fun, reasonable common sense as always 😎 Source or credits are fine but not essential (as with my examples they are not always given where they are posted) . Of course I will start things off with a few I just discovered and enjoyed that gave me this idea.
  10. They are awesome, seen them all, very much a product of love and IMHO the closest thing we ever got or will get to the OG Trek series.
  11. Mostly because AtGames is garbage imho. They never get everything quite right, the suspicious part of me says so they can milk more money from suckers ? Here is the official info pasted from the FAQ on AtGames site but I do not take anything they say at face value, they always go with the cheapest implementation for just good enough experience to sell to Atari fans. I personally have not been interested in any flashbacks since I got the Flashback 2, once atGames took over it was a no from me. I posted the initial video for those who will buy it anyways or already have. But I do not recommend anything by AtGames personally. I suggest anyone considering check out any of several reviews (Searching Flashback 9 on YouTube turns up plenty) PASTED FromAtGames FAQ : Some Atari games were designed to work with paddle controllers. Where and how do get I get them? All Atari Flashback games, even those originally designed for paddle controllers, are playable with joysticks. The reason why users opt to purchase paddle controllers is to have more precise control for games originally designed for that format, or, with two sets of paddle controllers, to play select games that support up to four players at once. You will soon be able to purchase additional paddles from the AtGames eCommerce Store or other eCommerce sites. Can paddles from previous Atari Flashback versions or the original Atari work on the Atari Flashback 9? Atari Flashback 9 Boom and Atari Flashback 9 Gold are not compatible with original Atari paddle controllers or previous AtGames paddle controllers. The 2018 versions of the AtGames paddles only work with the Atari Flashback 9 Boom and Atari Flashback 9 Gold, and do not work on any other platforms or previous AtGames Link to entire FAQ https://www.atgames.us/pages/faq
  12. Just an FYI, do your research, I could be wrong but my understanding regarding the Flashback 9 is old paddles are not compatible, new FB 9 specific paddles are apparently coming but I do not know the status of it.
  13. Talkin' bout Batteries, Rechargeable, Recycling, etc Talkin' bout Batteries, Rechargeable, Recycling, etc - Sorting through my hard-drive I found this video which I don't recall uploading. Doesn't mean I didn't but since I cannot confirm here it is anyways. Maybe I simply decided against uploading it for some reason or maybe I just forgot, here it is now all the same for better or worse.
  14. Nothing to be sorry for at all, I get it and as I attempted to convey in my post, I agree with your assessment. We make friends online and over the years being in this hobby connect with some people BUT THAT SAID it is not the first time I later would disagree or straight up disapprove of someones opinion or actions. This is because, whether or not it is to a fault, I call things out and I always try to be honest and informed in my opinion because, I stand by what I say. At times, telling it like it is or calling something out can definitely rub someone the wrong way. I have had a slight issue in the past where I advised buying product from a certain source, I was later contacted from a person who in the past, I had reviewed and recommended their product and they did not like that I was sending traffic to a competitor. Thing is, since my initial findings, video, review, I had dealt with another distributor that I felt gave over all a better deal especially for those who liked to tinker a bit or did not need all the bells and whistles included with the product. But this person seemed to take it quite personally, at some point I realized from their dialogue that they just assumed because of some past dealing and association that I was somehow now on "their side" and would should never suggest a competitor. Well, that's not me and really, if my association with someone depends solely on me backing them up and never suggesting to fellow hobbyist and gamer a cheaper or perhaps better alternative well, that is an association I could do without. I felt I even likely sacrificed receiving future product from them but you know, given the chance I would do it all over again because I felt I was true and honest to myself, I will always call it as I see it, I may not always be right but the best I can do is be honest with myself and others and hope those that stick with me are the true friends.
  15. Eh, I agree with you. I like Bill, we go back to Armchair arcade, some podcasts etc, known him a long time, he definitely has always been more of a "glass half full" type. We have had pleasant exchanges and I would like to think even a friendship and have been supportive of each others endeavours so I never align myself when someone over on AA that straight up calls him nothing more than a shill for AtGames but THAT SAID, I have cut Bill a lot of slack in past, as well, and like you, challenged some ideas BUT lately, yeah I am finding his association with AtGames is definitely imho causing him to lose some objectivity and perhaps with that some credibility. I believe he means to be honest and when pressed I would say he is a good well meaning person but he does seem defensive to a fault where AtGames is concerned. And I agree, the "Causal audience" excuse does not hold water for me anymore, it seems to be the card AtGames often plays whenever they just don't want to admit to the crap quality or have a real excuse for the product shortcomings. Like you say, when AtGames is sending product to Gaming Youtubers for review and giving info to articles etc they cannot then go claiming their product is for the impulse casual gamer the moment they are questioned or called out, and even so that is NOT a good excuse for shoddy product or business practices. To suggest that Atgames does anything more than release (and re-release) the cheapest low end barely satisfactory experience to make the most profit cashing in on nostalgia is just silly at this point. That is exactly the AtGames strategy and on some level I wish they would just own up to it.
