  1. Sad to learn but it seems as though he has lived a very successful and overall long life at 89 years of age.
  2. I guess I'm too cliché and my favorites consist of PinBot and High Speed. While not an overly huge fan of Star Wars, I really did like the new video spin they did on their machine of the 90s and played that quite a bit while at the local bowling alley.
  3. Thanks and yeah, Skunkboards let you run on real hardware or it can run on Virtual Jag.
  4. Decided to give the fish thing a break momentarily and look back into another one of the things I was hoping to finish which was the Cosmic Ark clone. I'm saddened to learn the name was actually acquired and is protected because I don't really like the Space Defense name. I will most likely change up the gameplay for something more original now as a result but will still have the same idea/premises. So to give the fish a break, I've created some new Aurora Borealis themes that I feel works well or better for this game other than just a static starfield backdrop. I've learned a lot going from the other few demos/games I've been experimenting with so this should be a decent one to really be able to accomplish as long as I keep it a simple arcade-like wave based game. 10 asteroids you clear level, next level you have to clear 20, so on and so forth with bonus levels every 5 or so to give the player a break, especially once you get into th 100+ asteroid sets, it's going to be crazy endurance mode. Not sure if that will play well but we'll see. Feel like it should be more? Less? Any feedback on the idea is appreciated. Here's some new assets included for the backdrops captured from Virtual Jaguar so not nearly as sharp as they will appear on TV: and not sure if I would go into something like planets or Mars but just an idea as well: I guess the biggest problem I foresee with a game this style (though that seemed to be the same for most 2600 titles) is just how long someone could last or want to play something like this in an endurance or arcade-styled mode. If I take it any other direction, I fear it would overcomplicate it and would take far too much time. Would be nice to finally complete something sooner than later...
  5. Would definitely like to mix it up between stages so hopefully there will be a ton of real enemies outside of bigger fish that eat you like: eel, shark, jellyfish, octopus, and maybe a water dragon...
  6. Guys, I just want to stop by and announce that the interest requirement has been met for the New Jaguar Pro-Controllers! Huge win for Jaguar fans, now to get the prototype units in for testing and evaluation! Thanks for everyone who shot an e-mail over to declare interest! =D
  7. Appreciate the feedback. Thankfully I have a very fast machine for rendering images and since the resolution is so low on the Jaguar anyways, that certainly helps cut back on required time as well. Hopefully after I fix a few things and add a wave of 25-35 fish per wave, I can have a single level playable preview/demo for everyone to try out after the holidays.
  8. I've been kind of here and there on development direction regarding which game I can manage to complete first but this one has the most amount of progress in a very short period of time and is just one of those genre of games that I keep wanting to go back to and work on because it's fun. Have only spent about 20 hours on it total so far but you can move around, eat some fish, progress through levels with background/music changes, etc. so just a very early limited preview of the work-in-progress: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjtzJ2KTlrg
  9. I don't think that saying a company or individual unrelated to Atari making this is at all wrong, it's fact. Atari themselves are absolutely not making this. Thus, leads most to the idea of wanting to milk the Atari name with this device because it can also doesn't seem false. We've known about this thing for what... 6 months now at least and not a single exclusive game (or otherwise for that matter) has been mentioned or shown on it? Then, a single joystick with single button is then displayed but with no further information as to if this is going to be the sole controller with the unit or if it's going to cost additional and even so, outside of the Atari classics which you can get in multiple variants on multiple platforms, what is that going to be used for? I still can't get over the fact that they were going to take $300 pre-orders on this thing merely a week before Christmas. As Skylar best said it: "Ouch!"
  10. I know Jeff has made his Frogz game on the Jaguar a Christmas themed one for the holidays:
  11. Yeah, Thumper is my jam man, that game is amazing! I haven't picked up Polybius yet but have a million other things to do/focus on anyways. Can't say I've played it for more than 40 or so minutes in any setting although BattleZone VR does make it quickly disorienting and queasy because you can move the ship one way while you're looking another and it just throws you all off mentally. While I'm not sure what the plan is with Tempest 4000, it would be interesting if they included some sort of VR option. Would only push me to buy it sooner than later once available.
  12. I think it's kind of dirty to ask for pre-orders in the tune of $300 several weeks prior to Christmas or whatever holiday people choose to celebrate. Assuming the word pre-order does in fact require the whole down payment of their projected price range.
  13. Loving your posts so much Jerry! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to share your history and stories with everyone. Truly fascinating and fun to read!
  14. haha... strange name to have when it actually costs you money but I guess I get it now... all arcades set to free play ;-) , admission on the other hand....
  15. So I think it's an interesting time to point out that this event, while I know very little about it, is probably anything but free. Free to you and me perhaps but who's paying the bills behind the scenes to make such an event happen? Taking it they have vendors/exhibitors that have astronomical stand/booth fees to pay for the entire shindig? I love Midnight Magic =)
  16. Cool, hopefully you try your hand at some Jaguar programming even if it's using the Rb+, that thing is actually quite powerful for what it is.
  17. So awesome, I want one of those so badly. We don't have or use a coffee table and don't really need one but that would definitely be the one to get!
  18. That's awesome dgrubb! Looking forward to seeing how it works out for you =)
  19. Currently a little over 150 users expressing interest. Still a long ways to go at this rate but there still seems to be a decent trickle of interest via e-mail coming in, though I'm unsure it'll reach the roughly 140-150 needed. As far as adapters, there are USB adapters currently available for purchase that allow you to connect a Jaguar controller to your PC for emulation use.
  20. Check out what Rik has been working on now for the Jag after AstroStorm! A 3D-mazed looking Pac-Man styled game:
  21. That's incredible! Love the story, thanks so much for sharing! It's really bizarre hearing about how this game was blatantly ripped off from Nintendo for the NES as Duck Hunt. Same as the Touch Me was ripped off and turned into Simon.
  22. Check out this new game being worked on by Reboot! Looks promising:
  23. Please do write more, that was awesome! Thanks for sharing Jerry! =D
  24. ...hardware is hardware, off the shelf or not, but I suppose that is left open for interpretation. Also, the fact that it's not custom hardware is kind of another key point but probably left best not to bother discussing since everyone is defensive on the subject it seems. Unlike the PS4 and Xbox One, the AMD APU leaves a lot of questions since there are still no technical specifications outside of that alone. You can get an AMD APU for $50. And unlike Sony and MS, they're leaving the majority of games from homebrew/indie scene and PC compatible games that pre-exist from what I understand. If Minecraft is their AAA title, they've got a rough road ahead to put it lightly. I'm not sure what's considered fair anymore since you can get a laptop from WalMart for $249 that could connect to a TV and is also an AMD CPU with built-in graphics, probably cheaper actually. You seem to know more than what everyone else does in regards to pre-installed games though. I know they mentioned it but do you know what it's coming pre-installed with other than a customized free OS and obviously some form of Atari collection that can be obtained by about 30 other devices costing a fraction of this?
  25. Same with the Jaguar from Flare II but all of that was largely backed by Atari and had everyone behind it all, it was a huge involvement and their primary focus, all in.
