@socrates63 I was last laid off in March 2014. A good friend of mine pointed out that unemployment is one of the few times (if only time) when we can truly relax. Since your first project involves food, you'll be able to enjoy this time even more lol.

Going that long without being a layoff victim is rare these days. (I have experience a layoff while living on both coasts.) I hope AT&T provided a severance package especially given your years of service.

It'll feel weird at first but you'll be able to devote time and energy to other home/personal projects before returning to the workforce.

Go for it.  I'm no authority here, but I suspect that's exactly what the calendar is for.

Hi Marco! The non-forums part of the site has been having some security issues lately. See this thread:
    https://forums.atari.io/topic/4465-atari-io-malware-security-warning-issue/
It brings up a warning for even the forums much of the time. When I use my phone browser no warnings appear, so that's how I've been using the site lately.

Marco1019 got a reaction from Greyfox in @Greyfox 's new book "Atari: A Visual History" is going strong on Kickstarter!
It looks like it just passed the halfway mark with 22 days to go.
I was fortunate to learn about this effort. I ran a segment on this Kickstarter during last week's show. The responses were positive.

Marco1019 reacted to RickR in I need new controllers. I'm open to all suggestions.
I think you should try fixing the TAC 2 or Wico, as I believe they both have leaf switches that can be easily repaired (cleaned or bent back into shape).

On those stripped screws, cut a piece of wide rubber band and stick it in the hole, then stick the screwdriver in and it should come out.
I am a big fan of the Flashback joysticks (the wired ones).  I find them all the time at Goodwill, and they work pretty nicely.

If you'd like an original tested and working, I can sell or trade one cheap.

To your point (somewhat, I think): I've had discussions with other gaming friends about the C64 & some ports that were rushed & turned out awful. By the time the C64's capabilities were truly explored and pushed to some of its limits, it was too late. (There were other factors to Commodore's demise, but I digress).

The more SMB ports I see to other 8-Bit systems the more I believe the collapse of the video game industry and the success of the NES have less to do with tech and more to do with creativity and the philosophy of "what can video games be?". The way the first few waves of NES games reset the way we think about and play video games speaks volumes to what Atari and others should have seen. It was far more in line with being a toy company with games like SMB becoming franchises, than what Atari was doing with a focus on computers and being the next IBM.

The colors.  Blue maze, black background would have gone a long way towards making it look like the arcade version.
