The Atari XE has a nice version of Crystal Castles, the nicest released for an Atari home video game system - so far

Sub, that reminds me, I used to love Silent Service when I was younger.

Tapper. Straight up. It's a cool game. I have it for my A2600 Jr. and the Atari 8-bit. It's challenging, too.

It's not so easy to introduce in a post like this 😄
This video is testing the circuit for my own purposes, but the real use of the board is demonstrate in camera,
how the Lynx ROM cartridge address bus was bodged onto what was originally designed to be a cassette tape drive machine.
The Green row of LEDs is the eight bit data bus output from the Paperboy game ROM (which is what is stuck to the left side of the board).
Think of it as something like an eyecandy demo when it's done in software, but in hardware 😉
I’ve completed the longer video that the above clip is part of. The short clip may be deleted.

Final Legacy is an absolute classic Atari 8-bit game.  It combines Star Raiders, Missile Command and Battlezone in one naval adventure.
And you only need a joystick to play, though to get out of the sub-games immediately you have to press the Space Bar.

    Hi 🙂
This is the 1337 hax0red ElCheapoSD (Lynx Side) File Browser.
This is for BennVenn ElCheapoSD flashcart running v008 firmware.

This was done without recompile, but by hex editing the original exec.
    The only functional differences are:
*High contrast colour scheme (mostly monochrome) intended for maximum viewability on original displays
*Continuous scrolling enabled (rather than step by step button push and release)
    Enjoi 😉

I got my Lynx II about a month after discussing the hand held with you at PRGE 2017. While on my way to visit family in Long Island, NY, I decided to stop by a local video game store. I had never been there and thought, why not. They just happened to have a boxed Lynx II. I tried it out and we agreed on a price for the Lynx and Ms. Pac-Man. Since then, I’ve picked up a 2nd Lynx II and both have been modded (McWill LCD screen). One of them also has VGA output. I have 31 games, mostly homebrew, in my collection and hoping to add Impossible Mission soon.

I had the OG Game Boy back in the day. I was aware of the releases of the Lynx and Game Gear back then, but I decided to stay with the GB for two reasons -- physical size and the amount of batteries consumed. AA batteries weren't cheap back then and I don't recall rechargeable AA readily available as they are now and the Lynx and GG were power hungry. I was fine with not having a backlit screen and the graphics beings what they were on the GB. The near pocket-ability of the GB was what won me over -- that and Tetris and Tennis.
I acquired a Lynx II with the upgraded screen a few years ago. It's staring at me right now across my desk, but unfortunately, I haven't given it the attention it deserves.

Yep. I blame you. Its also purchased my first (4-port) 5200 after we talked about that console at the Classic Game Fest in Austin (2014 IIRC). We were looking at the 5200s that Al had set up. One was running Tempest, which caught my eye. Its all your fault.😉

Had you told me that before?  I don't remember you telling me this story before.  It's cool, though.  🙂
There are several excellent titles:  Alpine Games, Championship Rally, Crystal Mines II: Buried Treasure, Sky Raider Redux, T-tris, and Vikings Saga all come to mind for me.  It all depends on the type of games you like.

Fancy that! I’ve had a Lynx 1 for a week or so, and got a nice looking model 2 today, only to come home to find it’s stuck right.
try playing Cali Games Surfing with right held down.
it actually is possible because left overrides right in the game.
so this is four years old, but how did you fix it? With an eraser as suggested?
I notice the membrane is reproduced now.

Thanks Guys 🙂 There seemed no way to upload a rar package, but instructions should be pretty self evident 😉
Although the calendar program has no limit on paper, variables would blow out at some point, and it would go haywire.
I implemented some limits long before that happens in the joypad routine to preserve the interface appearance.
The limits are years 1800-9999. 1800 is an actual hard coded limit because the program does need to know one year
that began on a certain day of the week to begin calculating from. 9999 is arbitrary.

Very cool! 😄 Reminds me of the Calendar on the Tiger Game.Com I think it was similarly calculated to save SRAM. I used to use that and the address book, and the PDA functions. Would have been neat to have a PDA for the Lynx. A little SRAM cart to save your address book, notes, etc. maybe a real time clock too. 😉

    Hello,
This is a calendar program I wrote back a decade ago, and recently ported to Lynx when getting the C compiler working.
It's a bit like the calendar on your phone that can keep generating calendars for months long into the future.
The data is calculated, not data stored within. Enjoy!

100% agree on a new ST, but I don't want a mini. Some kind of new Falcon running an FPGA core or one of the Coldfire CPUs would be amazing. TOS can run on anything with a 68000 and a framebuffer, so it would not be hard to do a new ST of some kind. 😛
As for 5200 or A8. I think some hybrid 5200 system with 128K RAM would be good. SD slot, and ability to use regular Atari joysticks and new analogue 5200 joysticks would be great.

If choosing between the 5200 and A8 computers, I'd prefer to see the 5200 get a "mini" release since the SuperSystem doesn't get much love, and as Justin mentioned, it should be able to support both 5200 and A8 software. As for future Atari computer minis, I want to see one for the ST line instead of another A8.

I have two stock Lynx systems. A Lynx 1 and 2. I also have a slew of games for them. They are a great addition to my collection.

I got my Lynx II when it was released.  I slowly, but surely, got a complete library of games for it.  I'm only missing P.I.T.S., which is very hard to find nowadays.  The system was better than the GameBoy by leaps and bounds but Atari did not do things right.
