I've been trying to get this guy to play Tunnel Runner since I got here. If he plays this Pokemon Risk game before it, I swear...
  2. Thank you @nosweargamer and @RickR. I'm working on something and I'm thinking of posting it here and getting feedback like Rick said. Nosweargamer thank you so much for the advice. I think I'm ok with the way my voice sounds for the stuff I'm doing here. Not quite sure how I'm going to capture video as I currently have no way of getting VCR hooked up to my ancient computer. I might just have to record off the TV for this "pilot episode". I don't plan on the pilot being very game-centered as the 2600 title I'm covering is very self-explanatory and well known. It's going to be more of a skit than anything (for this episode). I never like having to watch TVs being filmed with cameras for too long so I hope to try do distract the viewers until I can get a capture device (hopefully December). I'm even considering incorporating Flipnote Studio animations into it. I have animated in the past and I think they have turned out okay. This will definitely be interesting.
  3. I think you may have posted in the wrong neighborhood, @Sabertooth! Unless you want to show the new guy your mad Galaxian skills. If that's the case, go right ahead!
  4. My dad and I have been playing lots of One-on-One Basketball on the Atari 7800. He is terrible! And he gets so mad, too! I fear for my ProLine controller's health!

We play a lot of Atari together as it's quick and not too complex. Some favorites are One-on-One, Video Olympics, Outlaw, and Miniature Golf. We emulate a lot of games that I don't have physical carts for. Artillery Duel, Flag Capture, Home Run, Maze Craze, and Sky Diver are all great games we like to play on compilations and emulators.

      That's awesome.

In our house, it usually goes like this:  if the game uses one button, Dad dominates.  If 2 buttons, it's close.  If more than 2, the kids dominate.

My kids are no longer kids, but we'll probably settle on multi-player Mario Party DS later today.

We play a lot of Super Smash Bros three player, and I almost always lose first.  My only winning strategy is to avoid trouble, stay out of the way, let them duke it out, then try to take on a weakened survivor at the end.

I'm terrible at any Smash game except for the 64 one. I'm a Yoshi or ROB main. My dad hates it so I mainly play with my sister. We mostly play Melee or Ultimate.

Not a huge Mario Party fan but DS is one of two that I play. I will always be a Mario Party 9 defender. Love that game!

  5. Hello. I have considered starting a retro gaming channel for a long time. I have always wanted to do shorter reviews of older games like NES, SNES, Atari, etc, but put my own spin on it and add comedic elements. I don't have a big budget for this for fancy-schmancy cameras and lighting equipment, so it'd be kind of low production. But I hope that my formula would be good enough that people would look past the cheap nature of it all. I have a camera and some editing software, both late 2000's. I don't have a capture device but I hope to get one soon. I do however have a VCR. I know a lot of you are Youtubers and some of you have had decent success. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to start out?
  6. Good for you Duckie25! Enjoy your new games! Especially Burgertime! What others did you get?
  7. Great! I need the physical cart for that, too. I have emulated it, but something tells me that like many other classic Atari games like Galaxian, it is much better on real hardware with the OG 2600 controller. It is a decent port and very impressive for the system, but do find a real arcade cab someday!
  8. If you could have an arcade title come over to the VCS that wasn't a retail release or existing homebrew, what game would you choose? I would probably pick either Frenzy or Donkey Kong 3. Both would be better suited for the 7800 (I know they homebrewed Frenzy already), but I would love to see how a 2600 version would work if possible, especially for DK3. If I got to choose a 7800 title it would be either DK3 or Dig Dug II, which is better than Dig Dug in every way! What would you choose if you could decide an arcade port? Make sure to let everyone know! I'd love to hear your opinions!
  9. You can do it, Mark! I believe in you! You can beat that rotten @socrates63!
  10. I should submit more scores to the scoreboard. It's all nice now too. Thanks @Justin! I often don't take pictures though. Oh and by the way, this doesn't have to be just my adventures in 7800 collecting, it can be yours too. Post cool finds here if you want. We can go on this adventure together!
  11. I never sell games. Whenever someone told me they were selling their games or systems to buy something new, I cringed a little bit. I've always thought, "what if I ever wanted to play it again?" I would rather wait a while longer and not get the hot new thing right away than sell my old stuff. I still use my DSi regularly, even though since then I've gotten a 3DS and Switch. I also use my Wii a lot, too. I never used to get games that often until I discovered a game store about 20 minutes away with very reasonable prices for old games that I started going full retro collector. A lot of my collection has been stuff bought on clearance when systems were on their way out. Before that system or generation had it's nostalgia boom and prices skyrocketed. I don't have any extremely valuable things in my collection. The most valuable game I own is probably Conker's Bad Fur Day for N64. I don't particularly care much for the gameplay, but it's pretty charming and funny and looks amazing for the system. I don't play it too often, but I might want to again sometime so I keep it around. Another somewhat-valuable game I have is Super Metroid, but that's mostly because it is pretty sought after and people aren't selling. I'm not either; it's my favorite game of all time. It's not Earthbound prices or anything, but a little high for a SNES game. Well worth the money.
  12. There is a 2600 port if Crystal Castles you can probably get for cheap someplace. It's OK, but you really need to find a physical arcade cabinet in order to truly appreciate it. It uses a trak ball and no emulator can do it justice! My family and I went to stay at a hotel in Door County, WI last year and they had a cab. Had a blast getting the high score. We went back this January and it was still there! I played before on XBOX but never much cared for it until I used the trak ball.
  13. Yo, @MaliciousCarp. I watched your video about making a knockoff Genesis controller into a 7800 gamepad. That's genius. I'm pretty cheap and don't want to spend the money on the Seagull adapter. Do you have a schematic or something for your project you can post here? This is an excellent idea. Oh, those exact same controllers came with the Genesis flashback. They really are quite nice.
  14. I'm not sure if I can win this thing, @RickR, but I'll have fun trying! I have been doing much better using your cart, so I guess that tells you something. My goal is to break 40k in the next few days. I'm pretty sure I can get there!
  15. Hello! It's hard, but today I'm feeling Crystal Castles. Hope you enjoy the site.
  16. Coincidentally, there's a citywide rummage sale tomorrow. If the weather is OK I will do some snooping. I have found some great deals at those before. Game Boy for $3, PS1 for $8, but sadly I missed out on both. I will check. And yes, we do have a secondhand store within biking distance from our house. I haven't checked their COVID hours, but I've never seen video games in there and have checked quite frequently before the virus. Yes, I think it will too. I have had some delays with the Food Fight deal but will be back on track tomorrow hopefully. One way I increase longevity of the games is by keeping a high score notebook. I highlight scores when I beat them. I bet some of you do this. Yeah. That was fun trying to figure out when I first got the system. Oh, yeah. Forgot he was one of the last remaining dealers. I might do that later in life. Thanks!
  17. My wallet's hating itself right now. 7800 was well worth the money already though. After I get Food Fight and those other games I'm done buying for a while. I think it's really cool that I sort of reignited that video. I almost always go loose. Sometimes I go for CIB if they're the same price or less. I sometimes like to give the uglier games a home, too. No graded mint for this guy! Nice finds, though. I've heard great things about Commando. Don't know much about Fatal Run but it looks like Rad Racer meets Spy Hunter. Just remember: every time you open a sealed retro game, a kitten dies somewhere. Just kidding! It's your game now so do whatever you want! Have fun with your new titles.
  18. WOW. Just looked up some gameplay footage of Rikki and Vikki. Crazy impressive audiovisuals for the system. Shame I won't get a chance to play it. I'm not too bummed though, as there are plenty of other quality titles on the system. I'd be much more sad there weren't so many games I hadn't played yet. Sorry for letting you down, @CrossBow. I know how much you love that game! Yes, Concerto was the one I was thinking of.
  19. Yeah. I'm going to sound very stereotypically young person when I say this, but I can't imagine life without it! I think I'm going to try to make a video. I think I'll start work on something soon. I don't have a capture device yet. There's one I've been looking at and I hope to maybe get it for Christmas. It's not a Framemeister or anything, but it would probably be a good starter.
  20. @CrossBow I don't think I will be able to get that game in time, sadly. I think there's a 7800 flash cart somewhere I can get someday. I don't remember what it's called. It goes along with Harmony in some way I believe. I'm getting a few games from @chas10e as I mentioned before, but we finally sealed the deal. That means I will have Galaga and Xevious. Plus Food Fight, the ever-so-important game I apparently can't live without. Then I'm going to lay low for a bit and enjoy my collection for a few months. I will have a nice variety of games that will keep me busy on the 7800. I can't afford Ricky and Vicky at the present. The way you talk about it reminds me a bit of Bubble Bobble. I love that game. I don't think Ricky and Vicky will still be available when I'll able to get it, though A few games I would like to get eventually are: Hat Trick Ballblazer Mario Bros. Dig Dug Ms. Pac-Man Centipede Asteroids Donkey Kong Desert Falcon Water Ski (highly unlikely I get anytime soon) Joust Frenzy (homebrew) K.C. Munchkin (homebrew)
  21. Ever since I was about 8 or 9, I have wanted to start a Youtube gaming channel. I don't know how, but I will someday. Someday...
  22. I don't think it would become my favorite, but I think Odyssey 2 is probably the coolest console I don't own.

My dad had an Odyssey 2 growing up. Some of his favorites were Football! Computer Golf! Crypto-Logic! Quest for the Rings! And Attack of the Timelord! Until I told him about it a few years ago, he didn't even know that Odyssey 2 had a voice module. He had some other games I can't remember at the moment. It's a shame he got rid of it, but at least his cousin and best friend kept his 2600 collection. It's really trippy that I'm playing on the same console he played on when he was younger than I am.

Here's the thing: my dad remembers some games his cousin had for his 2600 collection but I don't have. Games like Pitfall, Frogger, Adventure, and, get this, Crazy Climber. He thinks there might be another box somewhere in his cousin's house. He may just be misremembering, but his theory holds water; I own the boxes for Star Trek SOS, Spider-Man, and Super Challenge Football. Not sure if Crazy Climber is in there, but I'm pretty sure he has another box somewhere. I will have to ask him sometime.

How cool if you could get the games with the family history!  Do it!  Be a pest!

Almost all of my retro consoles have some family history. My dad's SNES he got in college. My NES was my uncle's from college. The 64 was a present from my mom to my dad when they were first married. The XBOX was won in a raffle in 2001 or 2002. Atari 2600 as previously mentioned from his cousin. 7800 and GBA are exceptions. My dad had an OG Game Boy before I was born but my mom apparently threw it out. Game Boy of some kind and 2600 from a-tar-i were my two dream retro systems, and I'm happy to have them both now. Especially these specific 2600 consoles with all that history. I was going to give the Woody back to my dad's cousin someday, but COVID happened so it's chilling at my grandparents for now. I'm trying to think of a good starter set for him. I don't want to part with any of these sweet games, though, so I was thinking of buying some cheap duplicates sometime later when the virus is over and I have some more money from Christmas and Birthday and hopefully from a job sometime soon when it's safe.

I'm not sure if Crazy Climber was in there or not, but my dad swore by it even before I got the system or knew the game was rare. My dad's cousin kept a lot of his boxes but not all. If there's another box of boxes someplace and Crazy Climber just happened to be CIB (if it was there), I would lose it. When I was fixing his systems (he had two), the manufacture date on the Woody was June 27th 1981. That's after his birthday, so he may have gotten the system in Christmas of 81 or the first half of 1982, unless he got it earlier than Christmas of 81. That one appeared to have had soda or something spilled on it. The Vader model I think came out in late 1982 or 83. I don't know when that one was made as it didn't have a date in it. He might have gotten it secondhand later in life for all I know. Neither of them remember the Vader even existing. Anyway that would have put it at the right time for Crazy Climber. That was an '83 game I think.

He kept the manuals almost all of the games, boxes for some as well, but not all. Like I said there is plenty of evidence that there are more games somewhere, but there is no evidence I could find of him being in the Atari club. Unless Crazy Climber went to stores somehow for a limited time, but that's highly unlikely, especially in our area.

TL;DR: Lots of system memories. There has got to be some games somewhere. No concrete evidence that CC is among them, but no evidence that it's not there either.

  23. The Vader in my opinion is the nicest looking console I own. The NES looks like a Fischer-Price VCR (though intentionally so), I like the way the SNES looks but mine is yellowed, I have the Genesis Flashback and that's not the same, N64 is a lumpy mess, OG XBOX is too bulky and dated, the Wii reeks of casual (though the black model is slightly less severe), Wii U is okay, and the Switch looks like a Wii U Gamepad taco. The 7800 also looks slick, but I think Vader barely beats it. The Woody doesn't look too bad, especially where I have it set up at my grandparents' in a heavily wooded room.
  24. Managed to break 20k on @RickR's copy of Galaxian, which came in the mail today. I much prefer the 2600 joystick to the Wii remote! 22,970. This is a great video game.
