Is it damaged?
No. Actually looking at it again just now it's not near as bad as I remembered. It's painted a tacky shade of brown, and said paint is chipped in a few spots, but overall not terrible.

On a somewhat related note to the original topic, be sure to try to beat my high score on Donkey Kong over at the Scoreboards!

I end up storing the 5200 in its own roll around cart
That's actually not a terrible idea. We have one of these in our basement no one has used for several years. It looks super ugly, but I'm sure I could fix it up a bit. There's also an old end table down there as well... I guess there's a lot more options than I thought!

Put in place of where your 2600 sits currently perhaps? I have all the variants of the 2600 console released. Not a single one of those 2600 systems is actually connected or at the ready for play because I just use my 7800 for all of that.
@CrossBow My 2600 is in my bedroom currently. I was thinking of putting the 7800 downstairs in the actual game room to spread the Atari 2600 goodness around the house.

I've heard the controllers are garbage in many ways. Some say it's uncomfortable, some hate the analog, non self-centering joysticks, some hate the buttons always sticking, but most of all I hear of them breaking. How many of your Atari 5200 controllers bit the dust, and what are your overall opinions on the controller?

Vanguard is one of my personal favorites. I prefer the 5200 version but I enjoy kickin' it on the 2600 once in a while.
Vanguard's great! Never played the 5200 version, but it looks decent enough.

I was going to watch it last night. Ended up just playing more Atari. Typical.

Sadly Atari sold off Battlezone in the past few years and it likely will no longer be included in any of these "Greatest Hits" bundles.
Who'd they sell it to? That's sad. That was always one of my favorites.

@RickR thanks. I was just watching a video of the Sears Tele-Games Motocross Sports Center IV. If I had money for incredibly obscure dedicated consoles from the late 1970s, this would be the one I'd buy.
-
@RickR Thanks. I'll have to try it again sometime tomorrow. Sounds like a game that would be better played with others.

I loved the Game Gear. Slider was a fun GG game! I had Sonic 2 as well. Sadly GG and Lynx were in the same boat when it came to battery life. GG and Lynx sucked on battery power.
The original Sonic the Hedgehog on GameGear is probably my favorite Sonic game to be honest.

I've got a Wii U and games here that my kids abandoned when they got a Switch. It's all mine to try, but I haven't had time to get into it yet. Same for a PS3.
It sucks to be old like me and all I do is work, work, work. That's why I like the old retro games so much -- they allow one to game in short increments of time.
That's a great thing about Atari and other older games. Got a few minutes to kill? Play some Q*Bert or Vanguard.

It's an awesome investment. Congrats on the new family member 😁
Thanks, @kamakazi20012. Only problem is I don't think I have a place to put it... It's too wide to fit in one of the cubbyholes that I have in our gameroom. Guess it can just sit on the floor when I get it for a while until I find a good place for it.

@kamakazi20012 as much as people hate it, the Wii U is truly an amazing console. When I was ten years old, I never wanted anything more in my life than a Wii U and Super Mario Maker. The console holds a very special place in my heart indeed. It also served as the multimedia center in my family for a few years before we finally upgraded to a smart TV. I use it for YouTube and Netflix on the TV in my room mostly nowadays. A good perk for Wii U owners is that the games are much less expensive than their Switch equivalents. You can buy Pikmin 3 Deluxe when it comes out on Switch for $60, or buy virtually the same game on Wii U now for about a third of the price.

@RickR I could never get the hang of this game. What are you even supposed to do? Just mash the button until your engine blows out?

Stunt cycle and video pinball are pretty cool. Did these have microprocessors in them?

I had a bunch of Atari catalogues and manuals before the fire. All destroyed.
I'm so sorry for you. I would help if I could.

Yes, I have. A member of this site (name escapes me at the moment) sent me a box with 40 or so 2600 games and a new 2600 Jr., too.
That's nice. I'll always prefer the Vader though :)
I got my first two 2600s a few months ago. They were both broken, but luckily I was able to fix them. They came from my Dad's cousin who was getting rid of them. They came with a bunch of cool stuff, like a ton of games (mostly CIB & mint), comics, catalogs, and this cool ET poster. I have been emulating the games on my wii for nearly a decade, however.
-
@LeeJ07 Nice collection. Being this is an Atari site I have to ask: did you ever recollect any Atari things?
-
8 minutes ago, LeeJ07 said:
Yeah, 95% of my collection was destroyed September 23rd of last year.
Only my Switch and 3DS libraries were saved because I was able to easily grab them in time.
I've only replaced about 65% so far.
I can't even imagine. I'm so sorry.
You should use that wii for emulation. It's pretty good at everything below ps1. I also applaud you for choosing the red color. I have a black one, GameCube backwards compatible too.

Yeah, that's my second Wii U. The first was sadly destroyed in the fire last year.
That's sad. One of my biggest fears has always been a housefire.

Quick question for all you Atari 7800 owners out there

@CrossBow I see you have Adventure II and is that a Sinistar proto repro?
