Status Updates posted by HDN

  1. I am thoroughly enjoying my new, holiday-ified (Game)Room. A nice, peaceful, and relaxing place to binge NSG’s and CGR’s Odyssey 2 reviews.

      O2 Frogger looks pretty good!

  2. My 100% legitimate, completely real, actual non-fake birthday is tomorrow. It'll be my 148th.

    1. LeeJ07

      LeeJ07

And today is my real birthday, too, but I'm only 29.

  3. Happy Halloween! Hope you all are having a great and spooky day.

      You, too!

And there's an added bonus to the night this year -- we gain an hour. Don't forget to "fall back."

By the way, how do you do Status Update? Where do you go to do that?

    2. RickR

      RickR

@socrates63 -- to do a "status", I use the "create" link on the upper-right of the browser window for Atari.io.  "Create" then click "status".

  4. Hat Trick is a good game.

  5. Happy Birthday, @CrossBow! How nice to have a birthday on Atari Day!

  6. It seems like a Saturday. We are all home quarantining after my mom’s coworker got sick.

COVID-19 has been a truly horrible thing.

  7. I never did much care for Mega Man. I'm more of a Castlevania guy to be honest.

    1. RickR

      RickR

Mega Man = too difficult for me.

The only Mega Man I love is 2 on the NES.  Everything about that game just worked and the music is still with me today.  Castlevania?  Yep...all three on the NES were fantastic but I never could beat the first one.  I could play the second one over and over again.  I haven't played any after those three.

  8. Immature? Perhaps. But I felt I needed to add the USPS tracking number into my contacts and change the name to "Postman Pat".

    1. socrates63

      socrates63

You created a contact for a package tracking number? That might be a brilliant lifehack.

  9. You can't mince onions. You gotta have big chunks. You want to be able to bite into the different layers. That's the only right way to chop onions, kids.

  10. A reminder to all: please join us for Wednesday Chat if you are able!

I've got to repair our gas fireplace this evening.  Brrrr...it's getting cold.  But if that goes smoothly, I'll be happy to join in.

  11. Fine, I'll spill the beans as Young found me out. I'm now over at Atari Age! I won't post as often as I post here, but if I run out of daily posts (like I do often these days) I will post there. It's hard to get HDN to shut up for once!

  12. Let's all give a round of applause to James Campbell Jr. on his amazing Spider Fighter score! 900k; beat the game essentially. He played for nearly five hours on stream. Bravo to this man's dedication.

  13. WOO-HOO! My parents finally let me get a new phone! My iPhone 5 wouldn't take a charge and my dad's friend was getting rid of her old phone, so now I have an iPhone 8! I didn't really mind my old phone, but this is better. Only problem: no headphone jack. Why, Apple...

    1. socrates63

      socrates63

Nice! I'm still on a 6S Plus. I had the battery replaced a couple of years ago.

You can buy an adapter that plugs into the lightning port and give you a headphone jack and lightning port. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Certified-Headphone-MOYAGOA-Headphones-Compatible. There's also the adapter with only the headphone jack if you want something slimmer.

  14. My mom told me if I learned this song for her I could have my stuff back. I learned it, and GUESS WHAT? Not good enough for her. Again. I'm so sick of this...

  15. Who's all going to be in the chat tomorrow night?

    1. RickR

      RickR

No promises, but I will try.  Maybe around 7pm PT.

  16. I'm happy to report that, even though I still don't have my stuff back, my mom and I have been getting along much better these past few days.

    1. RickR

Good.  Keep up the good work.

      That's great news, Harry!

  17. I know how to play "What's Up" on guitar now. Hopefully that's 7800-worthy. Some games are arriving and a couple days and I'm excited for them.

  18. Happy birthday, dauber!

  19. Today I learned that Pricecharting.com has a feature to add up the worth of your collection. It's been consuming my day. I didn't realize how much some of my dad's games went for. I had no idea SOS was worth $70! Thanks, Dad, for not selling anything. Will I sell some of the games I didn't know were that much? Probably not. But I'm a little surprised.

  20. Oh look, what clever children!

See them study, watch them learn!

    How I hate those goodie-goodies!

How they make my stomach turn.

    I've got a little secret

    That'll really make them cry!

It's a nasty kind of magic

From a special kind of guy.

This book is made to order,

But it isn't to be read.

When they open up this book,

    They're sucked inside instead

To the most unpleasant place they've ever seen!

The magic labyrinth of I.M. Meen!

    Very scary and confusing!

    Destination of my choosing!

    Magic labyrinth of I.M. Meen!

  21. Happy Sunday, everyone! I'm craving kimchi, green olives, and Crystal Castles.

What's kimchi?  I don't do olives of any color/flavor.  Nevermind.  I just Googled it.  Ew.  Salted and fermented veggies?  I'm out.  I'll stick with my Yakisoba Beef Teriyaki noodles.  To each their own.

Kimchi is amazing, though the process of making it is a little gross. My white Midwestern tongue cannot handle much of it at once, but I love it!

I like kimchi too.  It really can enhance some dishes.

We've got a place near my home that does Korean sandwiches.  It's so simple, yet can be so good.  A fresh baguette with Korean pork and small topping of Kimchi.  So good.

  22. I am having a terrible Atari Day, and not just because I don't have my systems. All day, my mom has been screaming at me for various things. She says I have no friends, she says I won't be successful in life, she says I'm a weirdo loser, she says I'm a lazy person with no goals or dreams in life, and various other hurtful things. She's been screaming at me almost non-stop for 5 hours. I have a splitting headache. Today's Saturday which means my dad isn't home for most of the day as he has to go work at the farmers' market. So I'm stuck with her. What's worse is that she's taking off on Monday.
I just wish there was some way out. I hate having to be around her.

@Atari 5200 Guy I won't. I'm trying to just get through the night. Tomorrow hopefully it will be a bit better.

I'm starting to think that my mom is going to take my stuff indefinitely. She is threatening that if she ever moves out she will take all of the games with her and throw them out. I hope she doesn't follow through with it if my parents get a divorce. However I did make a list of priorities: Tunnel Runner, Super Metroid, Conker's BFD, etc. I can hide those someplace if it gets bad enough and she decides to get rid of our entire collection.

I think my parents are going to get divorced someday and I am okay with that. Though I don't think it will be for a couple months and I hope she changes her mind about those games and other various things she wants. I hope we can improve our relationship and start getting along better.

Sorry to hear of your home life trouble, Harry. Being a teen is already tough enough.

  23. Who's all coming to the chat tonight? What should we talk about?

I was thinking we'd just start at the normal time that's listed on the calendar. So... that would be 8pm for me and 6pm for you.

How have you been doing lately? I've not been having the best of times. My mom has been a pain. She's been very screamy. I keep trying to get my stuff back by doing what she wants but then she keeps changing what I have to do. "Get a hobby" she says, so I show her the poll. "Learn the ukulele" she says, so I learn to play a couple of chords and a few songs, like "Ram On" from McCartney's Ram album. "Learn a real instrument". Sometimes I feel like she hates me. I've woken up to her screaming for the past few days. It's hard, but at least I have my GBA and SNES.

Do you think I should maybe get a GBA game with my discount? I could get Namco Museum.

      RickR

I'm sorry to hear about your mom.  Perhaps there's something else going on.  It's such a difficult time for many with the pandemic causing so much change and havoc.  I wish you both the best.

YOU must decide how to spend that discount!  Namco Museum is good in any format, but it's up to you!

6pm has turned into dinner time here, so I will probably be late.

  24. If I had the resources, I would do so many "Ugly Game Givaways". You take super ugly and beat up cartridges (that work) and give them a new and loving home.
