  1. Interesting! I thought it was Street Fighter that popularized the the joystick/d-pad on the left. I had a couple of PC gamepads back in the day (ones by Gravis and Microsoft), and I think both had the d-pad on the left. I've gotten used to using the joystick with my left hand although I grew up using my right hand (original Atari controller, Wico joysticks). I find I can go with either hand and it feels ok. All this discussion points to the fact that controllers are a very personal thing and greatly influenced by what we used when we first started playing video games.
  2. 🤣 Is that for real??? Hahaha I'm assuming you're being serious, Harry. During the height of video tape watching in the Korean community (80s-90s), people would rent literally dozens of VHS tapes at a time to watch their favorite shows from Korea on a weekly basis. These tape rewinders were meant to 1) save wear and tear on the player and 2) let the player be used to watch videos while the tapes were rewound. And with dozens of tapes to rewind, you could do two at a time.
  3. Demon Attack Atari 2600 Difficulty: Game 1, Difficulty A High Score: 98,440 October 25, 2020
  4. 26,150 -- inching closer to 30k, but I really need a better controller option than the d-pad on the Xbox 360 controller. I hate d-pads to begin with but the one on this controller doesn't feel good. Taito made so many good arcade games ❤️
  5. For those who are still watching VHS tapes or still have tapes and the gear, do you have a dedicated tape rewinder? I used to have one of these red cars (don't remember the details).
  6. I don't use VHS and don't have any equipment anymore. Even during its heyday, I hated tapes because of the need to rewind them. After getting a tube TV this summer though, I have been much more open to older technology and have recently started buying DVDs of old TV shows (I had been holding out for Blu-ray releases). For DVDs with heavy compression that look poorly on a modern TV, the tube TV cures all ills.
  7. If you're interested in getting patches for Activision games that did not have patches, there are two people selling them. Links are below. I've ordered most of the patches offered in the second link. The Bridge patch was posted today, and I ordered it as well. Bridge patch - https://atariage.com/forums/topic/313221-fs-new-activision-bridge-embroidered-patch/ Multiple patches - https://atariage.com/forums/topic/308314-new-activision-patches-jaguar-imagic-lynx-14-patches-total/
  8. 23,800 -- yesterday's best. This was the only time I managed to break 20k, and I've been stuck at 12k-18k. I'm finding the background tune to be a little annoying when I play several games in a row. Game telling me to take a break? 🙃
  9. The power of the Pac -- that one seems to be a common gateway into the plug and play world 👍 Welcome to the I/O @Alex228727! Please visit the Introduce Yourself! subforum and introduce yourself to the community.
  10. 😆 A Pandoras Box is an uber deluxe plug and play on steroids! Welcome to the I/O @zgillet! Feel free to visit the Introduce Yourself! subforum, and well, introduce yourself 🙂
  11. 17,650 I'm super glad that Elevator Action was chosen for the challenge this month. It's one of my favorite arcade games, and I probably wouldn't be playing it if it wasn't for the high score challenge. Re-living a lot of memories from childhood.
  12. @DegasElite have you tried the comic book mode in Kindle app or Comixology app? Works pretty well going from panel to panel. But I usually just go with the full width view and scroll up/down.
  13. 14,450 The d-pad on the Xbox360 controller sucks. I need to see if I can get an adapter for my arcade controller to work.
  14. 6,300 RetroPie to the rescue -- 3 lives and additional at 10k seem to be the default. I didn't mess with any settings although I might fiddle with the display to fix the overscan. I had to look up what the goal of the game was and read up a little on wikipedia. You must enter all the red doors to collect secret documents in order to finish the level (building):
  15. I love Elevator Action from the setting to the music to animation. One of my favorite arcade games as a kid.
  16. Nice! From the rom creator himself. I love the little disclaimer blurb: Disclamier: if you're from Bridgestone Multimedia, and would like me to remove my posted ROMs of "Possible Mission", just ask. I have made no profit from "Possible Mission", and have only released it so that people can enjoy a working copy of the game.
  17. My first Plug n Play was the Namco Ms. Pac-Man, iirc. I can't believe that this thing is still sold in retail.
  18. @HDN Possible Mission was $43 + shipping. My understanding is that the rom file is available freely on AtariAge so search for it there if you want to play it on an emulator.
  19. Mail call from Amazon -- not exactly video games but still central to geek culture especially if you grew up during the 70s and 80s. Bionic Woman and Six Million Dollar Man are DVDs and the others are Blu-ray. I used to avoid buying DVDs since they can look awful on a 65" 4K TV, but now that I have a tube TV, I'm much more willing.
  20. When I told my neighbor yesterday that I've been playing Atari 2600 games for the past several months, she commented, "Aren't they coming out with a new Atari?" I was very surprised as she's not the gamer type. Outside of the brand name, nothing about the AtariVCS connects it to the past history of Atari, so I have no interest. I'm re-living it all things Atari right now with original hardware, so what more do I need?
  21. Thanks, everyone! For some reason, Demon Attack just clicked with me. I love simple shooters like this, but unfortunately, not all of them often love me back like Demon Attack. @RickR 🥂to you. It takes skillz to be consistently in the top.
  22. Nice! I didn't realize Wico controllers came in more colors than black and red. Thanks @nosweargamer
