Even at 10 years old could see the flaws. Didn't really care though and spent many hours playing. I went to a friends for the weekend and he had the 5200 version. I suddenly didn't want to play my 2600 version. Ms. Pac Man however was great!

I'm going with my first 5200 moment also. 1984 as well. I loved my 2600, I spent the night at a friend's who had just got a 5200. Holy crap!! After playing Pac Man I spent every weekend at his house! I was 12 then, 30 years later I finally bought my own 5200 and have 25 cartridges for it, even bought some awesome end labels for them from a member of this forum! I don't care how great the graphics get, I will always go back to my Atari.

    Howard Scott Warshaw Day
July 30th is our 7th Annual Howard Scott Warshaw Day! Howard was a game designer at Atari who was responsible for creating some of the Atari 2600's most memorable titles! Howard Scott Warshaw's birthday is July 30th, and we're celebrating Howard's wild creations as one of Atari's most prolific game designers. HSW's games encapsulate so much of the feel and spirit of what Atari was about. Celebrating his birthday is a fun excuse to break out the Atari 2600 and have fun playing these classic Atari games with family and friends. To celebrate the 7th Annual HSW Day we're playing his incredible creation Yars' Revenge on its most difficult setting - ULTIMATE YARS!

    Objective
Play for the highest possible score using the difficulty settings defined in the challenge. Post a photo or YouTube video of your score in this thread. Scores must be achieved between July 30th through July 31st, 2020. Screen captures are not allowed as they are more easily manipulated for falsified scores. Multiple submissions are permitted. The player with the highest score at the end of the competition is the victor!

    Eligibility
Anyone can join in. All players are welcome!

    Play Rules
Games may be played on real hardware, Flashback, or emulation, using any controller or keyboard, following all rules and game settings defined in the challenge. Choosing between real hardware or emulation, and choosing which controller to play on is part of formulating your strategy. Enhancements, rewinds and hacked versions of this game are not allowed.

    Difficulty Level
ULTIMATE YARS: GAME 6. Ultimate Yars features a bouncing Zorlon Cannon, plus some wild twists that distinguish this version of Yars' Revenge from all the others. What should you expect? First, you must bounce the Yar against the left side of the screen to make the Zorlon Cannon appear. Also, to make the cannon appear, you need five TRONS. TRONS are units of energy which you can collect at the following rate:
Eat a cell from the shield: 1 TRON Touch the Qotile: 2 TRONS Catch a Zorlon Cannon shot after it bounces off the shield: 4 TRONS If a Yar bounces on the left side with less than five TRONS, it will not get a shot, but it won't lose the TRONS it has either. (Each time a Yar is destroyed, it loses its TRONS). Each Yar has a capacity of 255 TRONS. If a Yar tries to take on more than that, it will short out and the Yar will lose all its TRONS. The count of TRONS is not displayed on the screen. Yar scouts understand the count instinctively.

    Fair Play
Your integrity is everything. Players should play fairly, be honest, and have fun! Falsified scores will result in your immediate removal from the site. It goes without saying that we will not allow cheats, hacks, cartridge frying, enhancements, rewinds, deceitful photo manipulation, subterfuge, or any other unfair advantage. Everybody hates a cheater.

Congratulations @Scott Stilphen! Your Mario Bros. score took top placement in our Final Standings! I hope everybody enjoyed experiencing Mario Bros. on the Atari 2600. This version of the game plays slightly different from other versions mostly due to the 2600's limitations, but I think the game looks really good and is fun to play once you work out the different dynamic if you're used to the other versions. Racking up points can become a bit of a puzzle to put all of the pieces together to make your strategy work, and I think that's a lot of fun.
This is a second win in a row for Scott, congratulations to Scott for taking the top spot at the very end with a 1st Place score of 1,002,400 points! I took 2nd with 1,000,200 points, and @atarilbc had consistently good showings in this challenge and ended up placing 3rd with 986,200 points. @RickR, @greenween, @kamakazi20012, @Gianna, @Atari Creep, @RadioPoultry and @TrekMD all had great showings, and in general most all of our scores really improved from what they had been at the beginning of the challenge. Congratulations to everybody on an exciting run, and to everyone who joined in this Squad Challenge and shared a score! I'd like to encourage Scitt to post his new high score on the Scoreboard, and let's make sure this Challenge continues on!
NOTE: Our next High Score Squad Challenge will be an Atari 7800 challenge. Be there!

I was a big fan of The Grateful Dead when I was younger so I traveled a lot between '89-'95. So pretty much the entire south east and up to NY. Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin. Finally went to Colorado in 95 and have called it home ever since. Did move back to NC for a few years, but Colorado was calling. I hope to end up in Oregon or Washington in the next few years. 🙂

    Hi everyone 🙂
Does anyone enjoy traveling? If so, where have you been? What's your favorite place to visit?
I have been to various different states, and have been to the Bahamas. I enjoy going to Nashville and taking road trips to Illinois (where I'm from) and love going to different museums in Chicago. I haven't been anywhere too exciting besides typical tourist spots (like Key West). I think it would be nice to visit Hawaii sometime!

Hey everyone. I just rolled the score past 1,000,000 points. A video is provided below showing the score roll over. It's a few seconds long, but you can see the score roll and it's the best I could do playing the game with one hand and holding my cellphone in the other, trying to capture the score roll over. I've also put up a picture I took of my game at 925,800 points while I was still playing.
Yes, I'm getting Slipice. No, he is not unlimited. He runs out after a while, so you can't go on forever collecting infinity Slipice. Fireballs still kill you, enemies still eat you alive, you're still going to make mistakes and die and the game is still relentless and you still have to be good to get a good score. There are other things going on at the same time that are like different ingredients baked into the "cake" that has become my strategy.
I'm going to stick with this score for now. You'll see in the video I had more than six lives built up and I could've kept playing another 30 mins, but I turned the game off after I captured the score rolling over. I feel like I've played enough for tonight and I still have things I need to wrap up before bed. I'd also rather have one of you beat this score. It can be done and I know all of you guys have the skill to put all of the puzzle pieces together.
    High Score: 1,000,200
