  1. Wonderful stuff fella..thanks for sharing..having returned to this thread and something I spoke about maybe a page or two ago about a definitive guide to the Atari 8-but. Back in March...actually the 10th of March when I last got the time to create something on my machine I done a quick concept of what I would have loved to take the direction of a book covering this incredible computer. So just wished to share and ask what are all your thoughts on something like this. Mock cover design 2 page spread (Donkey Kong) video game Now I wished to include interviews , and photography shots of the Atari 8bit range dept of field type shots etc. and a vast collection of Atari 8-bit games, demos and possible graphic and sound applications on the Atari 8-bit but that may have being very ambitious , but I don't know if something like is is achievable as I would need high res versions of the video box art of the games covered to be supplied for the publication as well as the photography , so it's a Huge under taking. But please let me know your thought. I'm sure there is a market for it.
  2. Greeting pal..glad you finally joined Atari I.O, I've being coming here for a while, such nice and friendly folk, just like over at RVG. Have a good pal Darren
  3. Nice summary of this month's, I've only flipped through, so I haven't really had a proper look yet, but yes the Gauntlet 2 feature was what interested me to pick it up and now you've highlighted it, I'll be reading this tonight, a few other things in there, no real interest Lynx stuff, but we'll have a look, top ten's, always keen to see them and will give it the benefit of the doubt, it seems to getting harder and harder to get the scoops, seen this for a while now, but as I've mentioned previously here in this post. Times are fleeting as are the memories of the folk in the know..so I think heavy research to the max of both discography of a software house IP and interviewee of what, when, where before it's too late.
  4. It deeply saddens me to read that, knowing what your saying is completely true. For something that started out as being part of entertainment and still is in my opinion rather than riding off the backs of other people's work as a cash in is the harsh reality of it and with that type of information Leeching will soon come to a great end if there simply isn't folk out there who were apart of this history time line who have passed away or have no memory of events will truly shine a spot light on these indivuals when it comes to fact finding rather than fantastic imagination of factual invention lol. But it was always going to happen that 4th next generation was going to be the next retro to which I've lived through also and have a great many memories as well as some great stories of my own regarding the Sony ps1 days from the piracy aspect of things to winning competitions at Electronic Boutique and Virgin Megastore on the ps1, but I doubt that would fit lol, but I asume that this is coming as things of pre 1990's is laid to rest. I hilarious thing is that someone who has little or no real experience with these 4th generation machines are going to be so called out in a flash if not researched or people tracked down correctly on their Facebook or Twitter or LinkedIn account lol.
  5. I've seen this for sometime, but I would think that this repeated content when and where it shows up from previous publications is I feel a coming full circle approach whereby new readers and people new to the subject it's all brand new to them, leaving the likes of us rolling our eyes are more or less something we either read or knew years ago. I personally feel that the people and in fact software companies back in the golden age are running out now or people from your experience can't remember accurately what happened on this game or that game etc. so yes your spot on, that it's nig-near impossible to bring something special to table for the diehard fans or historians like yourself. There is many great Atari designers especially on the Atari 8-bit I'd loved to see covered in a publication more so than the 16bit days, as a huge majority where done by software houses like Ocean Software etc.which have being covered to death. I love the one to one affair like your Pete Lyon interview, that type of thing.
  6. Hi everyone, hope you are all well, started a new job recently, and it's most annoyingly taken a lot of my free time away I once had to be posting up here. But anyways just wanted to update this thread with a newly written book review on the wonderful Super Famicom : The Box Art Collection and is another awesome gallery book with some incredible snes box art most of us have never even seen, so please check it out, who knows? You might be opened to something new and fantastic. ☺
  7. Just finished watching this...The Viva Amiga movie....worth waiting five years FOR? .....In all honesty .....YES....I've loved the style and editing acumen Zachary Weddington has excused within the film's presentation and insight. The flow works very well and although some of it content has being covered since, this doesn't matter, it's about the Amiga and this film truly champions this throughout the entire film. I will admit I was in the same boat as the majority of the backers with the dismay of how things were handled and excuted as well as the lack of correspondence to backers or wasn't enough for vast periods of time. But the fact that the film is actually out now is testimony to the film maker keeping his promise even if we are the back end of queue which I find extremely bizarre and a little disrepecting of those that made it happen. The only qem for me within the film was no coverage of what is a huge clunk of the Amiga community the "Demo Scene" a real missed opportunity here or enough insight with Pacific software that made the Amiga mind blowing. .Newtek was great, but should have had more company profiles included, it's no biggie though, you won't really notice the time flying by..and last but not least the Duration of the film...1hr? Really? How did this happen? Generally any documentaries I've ever seen are normally 1hr 30 mins or greater? It was all over way to soon for me...so soon...made me sad..????..hopefully the extras due will help ease the pain but this really suprised me? If you love the old school stuff and computers regardless what you owned this is well worth getting , it's another archived slice of computer history everyone should see and own..if not only to see my name in the credits at the end..???? I was responsible for the kickstarter graphics and artwork in case you were wondering. Anyone else support this five years ago? If you've recently purchased the film , what did you THINK? Comparing this to From Bedroom to Billionaires:Amiga Years 6.5hrs of content?
  8. Cheers pal. Who knows what the future will hold , I do know that there are plans to make some more of these type 8f magazine within other circles, so prepared to punish myself all over again..lol. for now this will have to do. Have a good one my friend.
  9. Wow..very much touched my your comments fella. All the reviews were written by Steve himself which were originally on his website AtariCrypt but where rewritten for the magazine, so really it's all down to him that this actually made it to fruitation in the first place, I'd contacted him in mid September and wanted to actually turn this into a digital magazine to help create awareness for his website, like many ST websites they seem to go unnoticed due to other platforms in cases undeservingly stealing the limelight from the ST or fans simply not known his website exists. Well that shit just got real..lol. I was just the engine here, were Steve was a car turn, I wanted to do this for him free of charge because of his true passion for the ST and all its quirks and that's who I want to work with when doing a publication , so it was really a no brainier . But the rabbit hole doesn't end there, in a sneak move I also did that 2017 Atari ST calendar and...wait......for........it....part took in a collective collaboration with a very brand new Atari ST scene release called "Collaboration One" demo slideshow to which I created the opening "STatariART" image is all its 16 colour glory, so also now apart of the ST demo scene circuit. Below is a video of our new demo, I hope to be more involved on their next release. So it looks like we have won fella , he in doors is best to turn in his grave and look the other way now and decompose Thanks for all your awesome feedback and everyone here at Atari IO....Merry Christmas
  10. Thank you my friend, both Steve (Ataricrypt) and myself Darren (Greyfox) really appreciate the wonderful praises on the work we took on doing this project. So as one final gift from me , I've produced in conjunction with AtariNomical Facebook page which also covers the Atari ST platform a again "Free" 2017 Atari ST loading screens A3 calendar, so if you all visit the AtariNomical Facebook you will be able to freely access the download link to my superb Atari ST calendar and scroll down until you see the Calendar post https://www.facebook.com/AtariNom/ Enjoy everyone P.s. If any of you decide to get one of these printed, please take a photo and share it here if you would be so kind, would love to see this in the physical.
  11. Hiya pal..many thanks for your generous comments on the magazine, i can't speak for the content magazine throw away on people in order to fill their pages, this magazine is more of a labour of love for the writer Steve and a pet project for me and has turned out brilliantly , I must say. This is Volume one of the archives of his site "AtariCrypt" to which I converted it to a digital Magazine format, we both decided to make it completely free for the supporters of the Atari ST scene and Atari in general, some great guys up there on the facebook pages covering the Atari ST platform. As regards to future volumes, that's entirely up to Steve, I produced the first one for him but will not be producing any after that, as I've come to my final entry of producing Atari ST content, like with the St Gamer magazine it was a bucket list thing for me and had not idea I'd be doing the third one..lol..but Steve made it easy, having the written word as it was, I simply had to do graphics around it. Something that made the process much easier than doing the ST gamer magazines. So no. I won't be involved after this one. I have to say though the response we've been given so far has been incredible, both on Facebook and Twitter is simply staggering. every time I come back I had a tonne of notifications etc..so I'm happy I've done my job well again here. just to mention ignore all the suggestions Google drive comes up with, simply download it, you'll see the download icon animation in the top corner of your phone to tell you , you are downloading it. I suggest a pdf reader like Acrobat etc. to view properly or a laptop of some kind..also to mention everything within the magazine has been hyper linked, so you simply click on the articles you wish to read and it will bring you directly to them etc.. have a good oner pal.
  12. Your very welcome and we hope that you enjoy our FREE Atari ST magazine, which doesn't get enough love ! "We make it look easy......" Darren

Merry Xmas everyone the ST Army of Two Steve Gregory (Ataricrypt) & Darren Doyle (Greyfox™)
  14. I've no capture card, I'd need an Elegato capture card to do it successfully , so until I get one, I might cosier sticking a digital slr in front of the screen.
  15. Many thanks again for bring more to the table, it's amazing that snippets of information from the sources actually complete the over all story of the history of both the game devs and software houses of the time. Cheers fella.
  16. I have the Reys 128gb arcade attract front end on my raspberry Pi3 and all I can say is wow!! , it a replica of the hyperspin frontend with full video preview and matched game logos from all console and arcade platform , something like 8,000 to 10,000 games here, it's ridiculous but take about 2 hrs to mount the image, I have to say all you'd need is to connect this to a a set of arcade sticks and wacka it into a cab for a full retro gaming arcade suite, would save a fortune on a PC arcade setup.
  17. Zapiy reviewed the gremlin books, if you check the reviews tab, you see it.
  18. Many thanks for your kind word Lost Dragon and delighted you liked the reviews, I did my best to be subjective to the content on both as a reader of the information and a technical merit to how I feel this would be best executed by a publisher, I believe the best content on any media is when the Author is very well in tune with the content, any graphic designer can design a book, but if he doesn't know the subject matter well, it will show to avid readership , take the Art of Atri for instance, the author was so well in tune with the content it would of being difficult to match or even better that layouts and the content, proving that the love for this the author so clearly had has made that a very special book etc. Yes I can say that the VHS boxart book is something truly unique and incredible to anyone who loved the classic VHS cover art we all depended on to sell us the movie good or bad, if it had amazing VHS box art you were hooked. and I highly recommend this, but a bit of advice don't lend this to anyone as you might find it difficult to get back of them lol..more on the way, I'm reading the "Super Famicom Box art Book" from bitmap books and the "Art of Oliver Frey Extended edition" from Retro Fusion books at the moment and they are seriously impressive books. Reviews coming soon. have a good one
  19. Hi Guys, I was meant to post this a while back, but when I'm not out saving the world and preaching religion of all things Atari, I get the opportunity to write book reviews that have been sent to me via the Retro Video Gamer Portal and forum to which I never knew I had a talent for and probably still don't lol but I wanted if it was okay to post direct links to them here for those that may have never seen or heard about these books. So with that, I hope you enjoy reading the reviews and if you are all interested in considering in getting them for you Retro book collections. first up. More coming soon, I hope you all enjoy these..there are also many other book reviews written by staff over at RVG you can all check out as well, these ones are the ones I wrote. cheers Darren
  20. At last!, Amazon must of being reading this post, my copy arrived today, a little damaged at the bottom corner, not bad but still.. And what a book, this has to be the pinnacle of what Atari was, it reems pure nostegia of the golden age of the company, I really can't see this been subseeded or been bettered and it is a pure delight for any Atari fan out there and to be honest the lost art of video game illustration never to be repeated, yet sealed forever within this book, I think Tim has done incredible work on this book, the layouts, the art, the pages are amazing. It's not often a book like this comes our way and that is the only reason why everyone must get this book. The Art of Atari is one of the best examples of what a great company can accomplish, so I thank you Tim for throwing us all back into pool of excellence both by yourself and the once great Atari company. Cheers.
  21. You can emulate the commodore amiga series and the cd32 via WinUae emulator so you don't actually need real hardware to play these, Amigajay the guy behind the Unofficial CD32 website has done many amazing compilations that you can freely download and play via your pc or real hardware. But not without some field work, you need a selection of bios files for the the amiga platform or "Kickstart.rom" files, since the Amiga over the years had different revisions of their OS, from 1.2 to 3.9 kickstart, the cd32 needing 3.0/3.1 to run cd32 comfortably. YouTube and Google are your friend here, as the kickstart roms are still held under copyright from Cloato or you can purchase a full amiga suite covering all platform for a ridiculously cheap price from clonal website under their "Amiga Forever" series the latest being the 2016 edition is a one stop front end for the Amiga platform being run under Windows and is well worth the effort for those who never experienced this incredible machine , it was light years ahead of itself and is so well supported today, it's amazing and this post is testimony to this. So for those you never had an Amiga in any form this is an incredible opportunity to now try it out, the games on this platform are a whole world in their own right, with some 2,000 games that can be play from a game collection of 20+ years as well as brand new homebrew titles that are as good as commercial games.
  22. A great synopsis of the book there ball blazer, for the unlucky few(me) has been no progress or the deviating from their recommended date of delivery of December 2nd which is an entire month from to the day before I receive the book which can be easily picked up from amazon uk and be delivered within three days including the discount which see me at a loss both financially and recieving the book like everyone else on time as promised. I can't even cancel this order as its in transit now by cybernetic pigeon delivery. I won't be ordering from Amazon.com ever again after this, it's a complete and utter let down on their promise as far as I'm concerned. I've reviewed many books for my home on the web and I'm glad this one wasn't one up for me to review as it would have been and gone before I'd of produced it. I know this book is sheer history in the making regarding the Atari brand, the best years in my opinion , but has been tarnished thanks to amazon's complete lack of incompentant months after the pre-order, recieveing stock and dispatch.
