      Happy holidays, Rick!

  3. Just so you guys don't think I'm dead (because of no posts lately) -- although I'm sure @MaximumRD would respectfully report on it if I was, there's a new project I've been working on.  Restoration of a 2003 Subaru.  It's got a water leak (which makes it smell bad), and needs some engine work.  But I'm having FUN with it.  My father was an auto mechanic.  It feels good to get the hands dirty.

AND...I got a NEW JOB!  I start next week.  Should be lower stress.  I hope.

  5. My son gave me a gift of NES "Top Gun" yesterday.  My goal is to land the plane on the carrier.  I failed a few times, but now I've read the manual.  I won't let you down this time, Goose.

RickR to be clear, I was not being a smart ass (I certainly can be 😜) but yeah, my console since receiving it has what can only be described as a weird plastic "toxic" or "chemical" odor, like turpentine or a fresh black marker or something 😆something, and I mean STRONG, which seems to come from the paint or plastic itself (I have a RED model as well) consider I have a poor sense of smell but I noticed it immediately but assumed it would dissipate over time but to my surprise to this day it has barely subsided. I have seen others mention the exact same thing so not just me, I suspect a certain percentage that came off the assembly line may of had this issue that was later resolved.

Well that sucks.  I have a very sensitive nose, so that would really bother me too.

For a long time, something in my cabinet smelled like tacos.  Not a bad smell, but weird.  After months of wondering, I found it by process of elimination when we got new carpets and I had to empty out the cabinet.  It turned out to be a video camera bag that was inside a cardboard box!

  6. OMG you guys!  I just got something spectacular.  A really old 12" Sony TV.  From the 1970's.  It's got a wood case!  It needs to be cleaned up.  But boy-o...is there any better way to play Atari than a really old Trinitron?  I'M PUMPED!

  8. To open or not to open?

Pulled from the most recent No Swear Gamer retro game box is the Hot Wheels USS Vengeance.  Should I open it, or display it in the package?

Plus a view of the other ships in my office.

I agree with StormSurge.  Normally I'd say not to because of value later but...it needs air.  Also...I didn't know HW made those.

It has been opened!  Looks good, although they should have made it BIGGER than the Enterprise, right?

You even have an arcade in there ;)

  9. We watched "WarGames" (1983) last night.  It wasn't as dated as I thought it would be.  It has good acting, a story that keeps moving, and some really cool 80's arcade scenes.  Yes, the technology shown is really old (8" floppies!  A phone coupler modem!), but it doesn't distract at all.

If you stop and think about it, that movie kind of foreseen internet hacking long before the internet was born.  Really a good movie.

Classic 80's movie all around fun to watch..

I always enjoyed that movie! I also think Matthew Broderick works so well in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" because of a bit of typecasting in that we've already accepted him as a brilliant hacker kid whose great with technology and gets in over his head. "Cloak and Dagger" is another movie from around the same time, maybe not quite as good but has a similar feel as "WarGames"

  10. Would you like fries with that?

That's the real deal btw, not photoshop. I've seen this in person. There's also a yellow one that another owner had created, I remember first seeing it in 1998 I believe. Not a big fan of chopping the cars up but they are are unique.

      I love these chiptunes!

  14. I purchased a Mattel Electronics Battlestar Galactica Space Alert on eBay. It's dirty, but it works! I'm very excited to have it, as this is one I remember so fondly from my childhood.
I do need some help, though. There's no way I'm getting that tape off the back without ruining the instructions sticker. Does anyone know where to find a scan of that sticker? My hope is to print it on my inkjet printer and glue it on. Also in need of a 3D printed battery cover if anyone knows a source for those.
    THANKS!

Good news - I've found a file to 3D print the battery cover, and one of my children is helping me find a place to have it printed.

Of course -- I didn't notice the Defender art on the badge. That was my first PRGE (and 2019 was my second), and I went because it was the Atari anniversary. I was so excited for a chance to see David Crane and Garry Kitchen at their panel. I didn't know any other Atari developer names nor anything else about Atari outside of what I knew as a kid.
