  1. I just got back from a trip to Houston, and my airbnb had this relic of a microwave!  It still worked fine, and made a satisfying "ding" when it was done heating.

That's the real deal btw, not photoshop. I've seen this in person. There's also a yellow one that another owner had created, I remember first seeing it in 1998 I believe. Not a big fan of chopping the cars up but they are are unique.

  5. You guys, don't forget to help out Atari Creep in his cause for the Alzheimer's Association.  Donate if you can!  Plus, there's a contest for a sweet 7800 controller.

  6. This isn't my auction, but boy what a great deal.  PC Engine + ever drive for $175 and free shipping.  Just in case anyone here is looking for one.

  7. RickR has a modern console for once.  I picked up a used 3ds today.  I'll admit, the purple color was a selling point.

  8. Another CRT for me.  This one came for free via the Facebook marketplace.  It's a 9" Sears.  Manufactured July 87.  It has both RF and composite inputs.  The tube is very flat, but not a Trinitron (I don't think).  This one may be my favorite one yet, as the picture quality is really good.

Sweet! Can't beat FREE ! We don't have the room so I don't take in CRT's anymore but I am currently finally using a nice 14 or 15' CRT for the bulk of gaming in a little "retro corner" I set up, it also has composite and RF / coaxial input. I probably SHOULD have put the 20' Sharp CRT that is RF/Coaxial only since it is so heavy and takes up so much space BUT I just could not bring myself to do it, while there is no room to really set it up I am considering literally playing / using it as it sits in my closet ! Working CRT's here are becoming a rarity and though no longer wanted for me, having so many pre-NES consoles I fear not having access to any one day.

  9. My son gave me a gift of NES "Top Gun" yesterday.  My goal is to land the plane on the carrier.  I failed a few times, but now I've read the manual.  I won't let you down this time, Goose.

RickR to be clear, I was not being a smart ass (I certainly can be 😜) but yeah, my console since receiving it has what can only be described as a weird plastic "toxic" or "chemical" odor, like turpentine or a fresh black marker or something 😆something, and I mean STRONG, which seems to come from the paint or plastic itself (I have a RED model as well) consider I have a poor sense of smell but I noticed it immediately but assumed it would dissipate over time but to my surprise to this day it has barely subsided. I have seen others mention the exact same thing so not just me, I suspect a certain percentage that came off the assembly line may of had this issue that was later resolved.

Well that sucks.  I have a very sensitive nose, so that would really bother me too.

For a long time, something in my cabinet smelled like tacos.  Not a bad smell, but weird.  After months of wondering, I found it by process of elimination when we got new carpets and I had to empty out the cabinet.  It turned out to be a video camera bag that was inside a cardboard box!

  10. Welcome to Atari HQ in Los Gatos.

Someone posted this picture on Facebook, and it screams 1970's to me.

Hey, I opened in May of 1973 too! 🎉

  11. OMG you guys!  I just got something spectacular.  A really old 12" Sony TV.  From the 1970's.  It's got a wood case!  It needs to be cleaned up.  But boy-o...is there any better way to play Atari than a really old Trinitron?  I'M PUMPED!

  13. This week, I'm buying a new roof for our home.  Can we all admit that being an adult sucks sometimes?  There's very little time or $$ for gaming.

    1. Justin

      Justin

I was just discussing the cost of a new roof with somebody yesterday. It's not cheap.

    2. RickR

      RickR

That's right -- not cheap.  It's also very difficult to choose a trustworthy company and try to choose a color you can live with for the next 30 years.

  14. We watched "WarGames" (1983) last night.  It wasn't as dated as I thought it would be.  It has good acting, a story that keeps moving, and some really cool 80's arcade scenes.  Yes, the technology shown is really old (8" floppies!  A phone coupler modem!), but it doesn't distract at all.

If you stop and think about it, that movie kind of foreseen internet hacking long before the internet was born.  Really a good movie.

      GRay Defender

Classic 80's movie all around fun to watch..

    3. Justin

      Justin

I always enjoyed that movie! I also think Matthew Broderick works so well in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" because of a bit of typecasting in that we've already accepted him as a brilliant hacker kid whose great with technology and gets in over his head. "Cloak and Dagger" is another movie from around the same time, maybe not quite as good but has a similar feel as "WarGames"

  15. Music to game to.  And also to eat chicken to.

  20. McWill Lynx is back. It is spectacular!

  21. The eternal struggle: I have a job to buy videogames, but don't have time to play video games due to job.

  22. Friday the 13th is a good day to play Atari Haunted House.

  23. My Lynx is out for a McWill mod.

    1. Justin

      Justin

That's pretty exciting! Are you getting the VGA mod too?

    2. RickR

      RickR

Nope. May as well just play on an emulator if you want a bigger screen IMO. I think the VGA mod would be really worthwhile for those who make Lynx review videos.

The mod includes a complete re-cap job too.

Well, I admit that it will be sad to see TRU go and it was sad to hear the passing of TRU's original founder. However, there appears to be some light on the horizon.

It seems that with TRU going away the original founder of KB Toys is going to start again. So we may be losing TRU but might be gaining back KB Toys. Our country keeps getting worse and worse for the stores that have been around for a very long time.

K-Mart is pretty much gone, Sears is not too far...
