Sweet! Can't beat FREE ! We don't have the room so I don't take in CRT's anymore but I am currently finally using a nice 14 or 15' CRT for the bulk of gaming in a little "retro corner" I set up, it also has composite and RF / coaxial input. I probably SHOULD have put the 20' Sharp CRT that is RF/Coaxial only since it is so heavy and takes up so much space BUT I just could not bring myself to do it, while there is no room to really set it up I am considering literally playing / using it as it sits in my closet ! Working CRT's here are becoming a rarity and though no longer wanted for me, having so many pre-NES consoles I fear not having access to any one day.

RickR to be clear, I was not being a smart ass (I certainly can be 😜) but yeah, my console since receiving it has what can only be described as a weird plastic "toxic" or "chemical" odor, like turpentine or a fresh black marker or something 😆something, and I mean STRONG, which seems to come from the paint or plastic itself (I have a RED model as well) consider I have a poor sense of smell but I noticed it immediately but assumed it would dissipate over time but to my surprise to this day it has barely subsided. I have seen others mention the exact same thing so not just me, I suspect a certain percentage that came off the assembly line may of had this issue that was later resolved.

Well that sucks. I have a very sensitive nose, so that would really bother me too.
For a long time, something in my cabinet smelled like tacos. Not a bad smell, but weird. After months of wondering, I found it by process of elimination when we got new carpets and I had to empty out the cabinet. It turned out to be a video camera bag that was inside a cardboard box!

I also found this very fascinating timeline:
https://mcurrent.name/atarihistory/syzygy.htmlThe Los Gatos HQ opened in May of 1973

That is a great resource! Michael is a friend of the forums, and yes that is one of the best researched timelines I've seen 👍

This week, I'm buying a new roof for our home. Can we all admit that being an adult sucks sometimes? There's very little time or $$ for gaming.

We watched "WarGames" (1983) last night. It wasn't as dated as I thought it would be. It has good acting, a story that keeps moving, and some really cool 80's arcade scenes. Yes, the technology shown is really old (8" floppies! A phone coupler modem!), but it doesn't distract at all.
-
If you stop and think about it, that movie kind of foreseen internet hacking long before the internet was born. Really a good movie.
-
Classic 80's movie all around fun to watch..
-
I always enjoyed that movie! I also think Matthew Broderick works so well in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" because of a bit of typecasting in that we've already accepted him as a brilliant hacker kid whose great with technology and gets in over his head. "Cloak and Dagger" is another movie from around the same time, maybe not quite as good but has a similar feel as "WarGames"

Well, guys...I made it to the big 5-0! Hard to believe. I don't feel that old. I think video games have kept me young.

The eternal struggle: I have a job to buy videogames, but don't have time to play video games due to job.

My Lynx is out for a McWill mod.

I gotta tell you: the pending demise of Toys R Us is depressing. Times change. Brick and mortar retail seems to be dying.

I was the cage guy lol. It was actually called the cage too. Sometimes the "security cage". I have some pictures from back then, I should probably find them and post them in the forums.

YASS! You should.

Well, I admit that it will be sad to see TRU go and it was sad to hear the passing of TRU's original founder. However, there appears to be some light on the horizon.
It seems that with TRU going away the original founder of KB Toys is going to start again. So we may be losing TRU but might be gaining back KB Toys. Our country keeps getting worse and worse for the stores that have been around for a very long time.
K-Mart is pretty much gone, Sears is not too far...
