It is weird!  Perhaps there's a huge untapped market for the 8-bit's.  It's been an ignored platform for such a long time.

Thanks for sharing @Justin. How horrible that experience must have been for your mother.  I'm happy that you're in the "timeline" where you grew up knowing her.
These narrow misses really put things/life into perspective.  I'm still processing this, both physically and emotionally, but I'm absolutely thrilled and eternally grateful to be here for my family.

I just caught this @Sabertooth. I shared this with my Mom. When I was 18 months old we were moving to a new place, and my mom was hit by a drunk driver with her car full of framed pictures and fragile glassware. The drunk driver was driving with an already revoked license and hit her from behind on an overpass, scooping her car up and flipping it over an embankment and she was thrown from the car. She told me just now she can still remember the sound of the car wheel rolling right next to her head as the car rolled down the hill. I came very close to growing up not having known my mom, and I think quite often about how lucky I am that I got to live in this "timeline" where my mom is alive, and that things weren't worse for her. She miscarried twins shortly afterward which we always believed was related to the accident. I saw my mom at Christmas and showed her the Club VCS Zine and told her a bit about you and what you had done with the club, which - after having been my mom and going on this Atari obsession with me from the beginning - thought was incredibly impressive and really cool. I reminded her of you again tonight when I shared your story with her, and mentioned I'd share this story with you here. I'm glad you're okay, and that your family and little girl still have you. I hope the rest of 2024 is good to you.

Not a fan of the snow myself.
So far (knock on wood), we've had a very mild winter here.  The only snow I see on the forecast is on Sat 1/13, so we shall see.

Thanks, Justin. We have a 2.5 week trip to Thailand coming up in about five weeks.
I'm really hoping that my joy from connecting with retro games will more way more about playing and much less about collecting. I'm trying to reverse that balance I had going on for way too long.

I dropped off the games this afternoon, and received a little belated Christmas gift from the ladies who bought the games.
I have been thinking about buying an Evercade EXP, and today, I was gifted a dust cover for the handheld. I might really need to buy the handheld for my lonely dust cover 😂 I have such a weakness for handheld gaming. The metal Atari sign is cool. She also gave me the AD&D Intellivision cartridge and a 2600 cleaner.

Combination of a couple of things are prompting me to reduce my games collection. My starting point is nearly 5,000 physical games across multiple consoles and handhelds.
First, I started my game collecting knowing that I would have to downsize later. The "later" came a few years earlier than I anticipated 🙂 Like Rick, the collection downsizing is driven by moving to a smaller home later. Now we aren't yet selling the house anytime soon, but I do need to raise some capital to fund college tuition and vacation. I volunteered to my wife that I would reduce my game collection to raise some funds.
Second, during the past year, I learned that what I loved most is all things Atari and the games and systems from the 80s. That realization has helped me to make the decision to reduce the collection of games for systems from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Don't get me wrong. I love all the games for the PlayStations and Xboxes, but in order to raise funds, reduce the clutter, and make room for other stuff in the house, it was best that I reduce my collection. I'm starting with the PlayStation games because they are the most valuable part of my collection. In the coming months, I will need to figure out what to do with the Xbox games.
The flip side is that I will focus my collection on Atari consoles and computers and a little bit on other systems from the 80s, most notably the Amiga which I bought from Rick last year. With shelf space freed up, I can better display my Vectrex, 5200, 7800, and Jaguar games.

For me personally, it is a long story, but I'll summarize as follows:  My wife and I have a big house in which we raised children that are all grown and flown.  We would like to move to a smaller home sometime in the near future.  Single story, one we can stay in for a long time.  That means downsizing our stuff across the board.

I agree it seems worse these days..a LOT of aggressive driving out there.  I hope your friend's son recovers quickly!
I got myself a new car recently just to make sure I have the latest safety doo-dads.  And it does help!  The car will brake/steer if it senses something bad is about to happen.  I figured at my age, I need all the help I can get.  Not that I look at my phone or anything else while driving.
Anyway, take care everyone.  Even close calls like @Sabertooth had take a toll with potential PTSD or nightmares.

I think this is new. My guess is it's a way to engage younger gamers.
I just hope that the Atari formulation takes into consideration the dietary restrictions of the 45+ set. How does GFUEL interact with my bp meds?

I am thinking of doing an old fashioned scientific experiment with this stuff. Play a series of 2600 games on GFUEL and the same series without. Record the scores. Report results on a tripanel poster board.

You have to wonder about who proposed this and, more importantly, who the heck said, "Yeah, that'll work! Let's do it!"
